Join me in an incredible adventure to one of Montana's premier trout fisheries in the western part of the state. Wild Brown Trout, Cutthroat seemingly way too big for the size of the creek and feisty Rainbow Trout abound!

Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

  • I’m hoping this is Rock Creek outside of Philipsburg, MT. My uncle taught me to fly fish here a decade before he passed. I went several trips in the spring right after the snow melted. He said of all the places he had fly fished in his life that this was the best and at that time of year. Two things I’ll never forget: 1) he said after fishing there annually for 20 years he could see every turn in the river and he would walk it in his dreams. After the second year I experienced the same. I could recall every point I casted on that river. 2) His father (my grandfather, born 1917) was a deep sea fisherman. My uncle said he gravitated to fly fishing as a teenager just to piss off the old man who referred to it as ‘buggy whipping’. Although my grandfather took me a couple of times deep sea fishing, I never was interested in it or any kind of fishing. Then at age 40 my uncle says he has to turn me on to it since we had come from a long line of fly fishermen (on his mothers side). Oh what a gift those memories are. I’ll be back some day Rock Creek.

  • Great video and luv Rock Creek, although I tend to stay away during summer... can be crazy busy considering the narrow road along the length of the river.

    @reelguyoutdoors5536@reelguyoutdoors55362 жыл бұрын
    • Surprisingly, it wasn’t that busy. We had each spot to ourselves on the three days we fly fished. One of which was a weekend! Thanks for watching - cheers!

      @FlyFishDan@FlyFishDan2 жыл бұрын
    • It'd crazy all year now. Just tried fishing it today (January 14th), and nearly every single spot was taken within the first 12 miles of the river.

  • Why is it, in all the Rock Creek videos I've watched, no one uses mending when fishing dries. Is "drop and drag" the preferred technique specific to this water???

    @huntjunky1@huntjunky1 Жыл бұрын
    • I do mend quite a bit - but often fish will take flies skating late in the season.
