  • 26:31 realizing that Dante in a way killed Vergil’s nightmares 🥺

    @myladychaos@myladychaos2 жыл бұрын
    • what i find interesting is how Vergil's nightmares personified actually cared about him. i mean these are horrible nightmares you would think if personified and give self awareness they would just want to continue to torment Vergil as is the very nature of a nightmare. instead they kill themselves off willingly to rid Vergil of themselves by using Dante as their noose. i don't know if this is explored or not because i don't read the manga or play the games.

      @dawnseeker176@dawnseeker1762 жыл бұрын
    • @@dawnseeker176 The exact facet you are speaking of isn’t explored, kinda just given to us to glean from story aspects. That said the manga does go into the familiars as a whole. They, like V, are dying the moment they were born, unlike V they don’t have weeks to live, they have hours. The nightmares (well, 3 out of 4….) all joined V after he persuaded all of them, in various ways, and because he literally gave them life they come to love V. He increased their lifespan by about 7,000% and they were grateful for it. They wanted to live, this is made clear in the manga. Which is why it’s such a big deal they ended up caring about V so much that when they were freed, and now could live their own lives, that to spare Vergil further pain they “suicided by cop” with Dante.

      @mikeclark7026@mikeclark7026 Жыл бұрын
    • I always viewed it more as a "vergils nightmares wanted to die because they plagued him for long enough and after having a `heart to heart` with vergils pure human side, just want him to finally be at peace". All three of his familiars knew they had no goddamn dice going up against dante, and they wouldn´t have had any reason to fight dante for vergil, since that wouldve robbed vergil of his own fight with dante. So, the only logical explanation would be that they wanted to be eliminated, for the sake of vergil.

      @myladychaos@myladychaos Жыл бұрын
    • @@sonofsparda657 I agree with this as that was my thoughts as well. It was the human side that allowed the nightmares to have a heart and feel sorry for Vergil. They had empathy for him and did not want to add to the pain that Vergil was already feeling. It was that pain that made Vergil what he is now and the nigthmares knew that Vergil needed to heal through his trauma. Vergil is clearly a very sensitive person and with the death of his mother, basically caused his soul to die. I think Vergil was hit harder than Dante from the death of the Sparta family and wanted to bring back that family by any means necessary which ended up corrupting and blinding him from the hurt he caused others. I can't think of a word to describe how emotionally sensitive Vergil is and not dealing with trauma in a healthy way can lead to dire consequences to yourself and those around you. Dante has his own trauma, but he doesn't fall to the levels that Vergil does. Vergil is much more relatable than Dante, which is why I think Vergil has a large fan base despite the horrible things he has done.

  • Most notable to me is the fact that Yamato splits things into two halves-Vergil’s human and demon halves, casting his humanity aside to achieve absolute power with his demon half; while Dante realizes that Rebellion brings things together, unlocking his true Sin Devil Trigger by merging Rebellion and Sparda. Dante brings his two halves together to achieve strength while Vergil splits them into two. This representing how Vergil views his human half as lesser than his demon side, while Dante embraces his humanity to strengthen himself. The two serve as foils to each other

    @titan20111@titan201112 жыл бұрын
    • you can only ever find TRUE M O T I V A T I O N to bring up the strength/power to protect anyone when you are capable of loving. Vergil eliminating his human half, or wanting to since the dawn of his MOTIVATION is ironically exactly the reason he never got that strength. I personally also think that vergil got the yamato so that when dante gets too careless and rash that he can split his demon away and seal it, or at least that this was Sparda´s idea. Considering Dante was always the rash, extroverted, impulsive one, its not too farfetched to think that Sparda was worried dante could end up as the "evil" one because of his impulsiveness. Whereas vergil always displayed a certain early maturity, so he was sparda´s failsafe. Dante on the other hand probably was given the rebellion because if vergil ever failed to protect and got beaten, dante could step in and bring vergil and his demon together to give him a second wind and also to hold his own, obviously.

      @Bae-To@Bae-To6 ай бұрын
    • @@yalovoyhznepomnyThere's a theory that Dante and Vergil are as powerful as they are because they're half-human; demons grow stronger by feeding on the blood of humans, so the idea is that their demon half is constantly feeding on their human half, making it stronger and stronger the older they get, with the demon being unable to fully devour the human half of them due to them being hybrids (rather than the fusions in DMC4). This would fit well into why Nero is as strong as he is, since he'd be roughly 1/4 demon, meaning that he would start out weaker, but grow stronger faster than either Vergil or Dante, because there is more human for his demon side to feed on.

However, because she died before saving Vergil, Vergil felt that he lost to Dante on his mother's love. Vergil felt as if he lost the biggest thing to him. As Dante mentions at how he didn't know, but because he didn't know, Vergil always believed that he lost to Dante on the love of the most important person to him. To some, that can fuck with a person's head.

Because, it was Nero that saved him, in the end. This time, he might've actually won, him and Dante were pretty much equal in that last fighting cutscene, and it wasn't very clear who would've won when they charged at each other. But Nero actually saved his humanity, helped him accept Dante(his brother), as well as his human side(his son), showed him what fighting for others is like. • You ever stop to realize that Dante and Vergil's lives have been a long series of repeating patterns that only ended when Nero came into their lives? I mean think of it... It all begins when their lives are destroyed as children. Vergil feels abandoned by his mother and brother, but both feel the loss of their mother when she is taken from them. This is a moment that defines their lives. Devil May Cry 3, we see where it really sort of "pops." Vergil's first real defeat at the hands of Dante. Vergil, who up to this point had so much confidence. Vergil, who was currently wielding the Force Edge, the sword of his father. Vergil, who had just previously stomped Dante, was now defeated -- for perhaps the first time since his childhood, when he may have felt betrayed and abandoned by his brother and mother. And now, he was being betrayed again. This wasn't just humiliating for him, but it was as if he was reliving that night once more, when he was too weak to save anyone. And then, he threw himself into the Demon World, where he would become a slave. Devil May Cry 1, Vergil is defeated by Dante again, but this time, Dante is convinced he has killed his brother. For Dante, this is what he thinks is the final loss of his only remaining family. For the first time, Dante is truly alone. By Devil May Cry 2, Dante is less boastful, more calm and collected, almost seeming more similar to his brother in a lot of ways. Dante has become more serious and somber. Then Dante finds out he has a nephew in Devil May Cry 4. And we're back to the Dante we love, who cracks jokes, who plays with his enemies, and mocks them casually. And by the end of it, he gladly gives his nephew the Yamato -- why would Dante need a silly sword to remember his brother by when he has his son? Vergil however was not dead, and had been wandering the world for years. From Devil May Cry 1 up until before Devil May Cry 5, it's implied Vergil had fought losing battle after losing battle. Once strong and feared, he was not even a shadow of his former self. Every defeat for Vergil was reliving that night of his childhood all over again. In desperation - for survival, for power, or maybe revenge - Vergil tore his own son's arm off, not knowing Nero was his child, to reclaim his sword and split himself into two beings. And without realizing it, I think Vergil gave himself the means to grow that he needed so desperately. Urizen and V both represented different parts of Vergil. Whereas Urizen seemed almost single-minded in his desire for power, V seemed to make up the bulk of who Vergil was. For all intents and purposes, V *was* Vergil, without the single-minded rage and lust for power that Urizen represented, the drive for power that had always defined who Vergil was. V was nearly powerless. For the first time, Vergil, as V, understood what it meant to be truly, truly weak. But without his drive for power and his pride weighing him down, he was able to do something he never could have before -- seek the help of others. Not only of Dante, but also of the various demons born from his nightmares. During his time as V, Vergil learned how to rely on others. During his time as V, Vergil learned to let others help him carry his burden, as when he became too weak to carry on alone, he allowed Nero to help him stand. As V, Vergil learned to set his bitter anger aside and trust his brother. The demon half of Vergil, however, did not grow, did not learn. It was single-minded in its desire for power, its desire to defeat Dante. When it was defeated, it was confused; it had all the power it had ever wanted and still wasn't enough. It was no longer weighed down by Vergil's memories of his childhood, so all it had was an empty void that desired fulfillment. And when V stood over Urizen, all he saw was a monster that yearned for more power. Vergil watched a creature that had defined him for so long.... and he had seen it helpless to understand why it lost. For the first time, Vergil saw himself for who and what he truly was... and he felt true pity. So when V rejoined with his other half, became Vergil again? The man that came from that union was not the same man who disappeared when they were split apart. The Vergil before was desperate, was weak, was broken. The Vergil after was contemplative; the next time we see him he is pondering his choices, if things might have been different. The next time we see Vergil, he is fantasizing about if, in another life, he might have been the one protecting the human world from Dante. And, before he leaves after rejoining, he takes the time to thank Nero for his help -- not in a mocking tone, but in genuine thanks. For the first time, we see Vergil show gratitude to someone. In Devil May Cry 3, Vergil's allies couldn't expect to outlive their usefulness, let alone expect any level of legitimate gratitude. So when Vergil fights Dante, it's different than it had been when they were younger. In Devil May Cry 3 they fought because Dante stood in Vergil's way in his quest for power. Vergil had power now, his goal was accomplished. So, his fight with Dante? I think that was just as much a proving ground. For the first time, Vergil had doubts about his path. And I think, maybe, just maybe, his fight with Dante was to test his resolve, to ask a question; who is right? Nero's involvement, however, disrupted things. When Nero stood between him and Dante, it was no longer as the man who helped a dying V reach his destination, but as Vergil's own flesh and blood son. Vergil first surprised us by showing gratitude to Nero. Then, he makes the next surprising move for a man who has always been driven by combat -- he tries to make Nero stand down. Vergil, who had never backed away from a challenge before, had finally met the one opponent he did not wish to fight. For the first time, Vergil stays his hand and tries to discourage an enemy from a fight. Vergil's entire path up to this point was driven by loss, much like Dante. And, much like Dante, discovering family in Nero had changed that. But whereas Dante continued to form bonds, to make friends, to grow, was defined by so many of his experiences, Vergil had, up to that point, been almost singularly defined by loss, with his only true acquisition being power. For the first time, Vergil had gained something that he hadn't had in so long; family. And then Vergil does the next surprising thing and makes a proposal; if he defeats Nero, he wins a victory against Dante. This is an odd thing for Vergil, who up until that point had always been the honorable sort. Surely a man such as Vergil would not consider it a true victory unless he defeats his foe personally? But what's more surprising for me is that there is almost a sort of, for lack of a better word, "playfulness" to it. Vergil almost seems amused by the idea. And Dante, who had been worried about Nero's safety up until that point? He waves him off and says "I don't even care anymore." Dante wasn't concerned for Nero's safety. Maybe the backhand assured him Nero was able to hold his own. Or, maybe before the fight had even begun, Nero had already shifted the dynamic. Vergil's fight with Nero continued to beg the question of who was right between him and Dante, but it also added a new question; does it really matter? Is who's right decided by who lives and dies? What is truly gained? What is lost? Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but I think for Vergil, the fight with Nero was important. For Vergil's whole life, he had coveted the legacy of his father, to build a legacy of his own. Now, he had that -- and it was standing in his way. Vergil was now testing what was stronger; his resolve, or his legacy? Did he have the resolve to destroy the one thing he had truly contributed to the world? Or would his own legacy change him? When Nero defeated Vergil, it was the moment that Vergil finally let go. The feeling that Dante had fundamentally betrayed them as children. The feeling that power would make everything right. In that moment, Vergil was finally freed from all that weighed him down. So, when next we see him and Dante fighting in the demon world, they fight not to kill each other, but to entertain each other. For the first time, they fight not as enemies, but as brothers. Vergil had lost so much in his life, and no amount of power had ever filled the void. Through V, Vergil became more in touch with his humanity. Through Urizen, Vergi learned that a single-minded desire for power has never done him any good. And through Nero, maybe, just maybe, the void that had been left in his heart as a child when he lost his mother, had finally been filled. At long last, Vergil could finally move on from the wounds of the past, and for the first time, he chose to defend the future.

Dante was selfish, immature, rash, and totally empathetic pre DMC3s. While Vergil had his objective straight from the very beginning. Vergil would try to find his family, get far stronger so that he could protect them, and actually try to convince Dante if he was evil. Dante didnt even care for Vergil even until dmc5. He does absolutely nothing until vergil showed up. while vergil still holds what happened to his family to heart. So no, Sparda actually make the right decision as to who he gave Yamato to. The mistake he made is that HE WASNT THERE when it all happened. when Vergil starts to chose power for vengeance above anything else. When Vergil got corrupted. When Vergil was lost. When Vergil thought the person that he love the most abandon him.

  • I think I finally understand one of the reasons why Nero was so adamant about the twins trying to kill each other. Dante had spent his whole life cultivating his humanity in the face of ever demon he fought and that made him powerful enough to take on anything he came across. Vergil did the opposite and it led to defeat after defeat. But when they both finally take the time to reflect Vergil in the form of V and Dante before he creates his devil sword they both come to the conclusion that one of them needs to die. And Nero helps them wake up from that stupid decision, and he says it outright in that there are ways for them to settle their differences instead of trying to murder each other whenever they see each other. That is a humanizing moment to see after all these years and all their experiences they try to fight each other as if their kids and it takes Nero's devil trigger to stop them, like a parent stopping children from fighting.
