Onboarding feature was an unironic huge W. The channel hiding feature is great on the WoW guild server I co-run, we're active on two different versions of the game so people just say which version they're interested in and they see those channels. This helped activity a LOT on the less-active expansion because people joining didn't just see a bunch of channels for the version they aren't active in.

Channels being hidden by default results in users being unable to find the RULES channel for my server WAY too often. Onboarding also delays join messages to when people complete it, instead of sending them when the user actually joins. Overall, this is just another feature bots could do before and they did it better.
Would still appreciate an option to turn off avatar frames and profile effects but given how hard they're pushing the store I doubt that'll come anytime soon

Since the mobile update, I have never had SO DAMN MANY PROBLEMS AND ISSUES! 😭 like, I never really used to have issues on mobile and nowadays I’m constantly having glitches, crashes, I can’t send messages because the speaking icon won’t change to send message icon and I end up having to restart the app so often. It’s quite infuriating! And also the app now makes my phone so much hotter which is weird. Never had issues until this UI change. It’s a shame, since I genuinely enjoy using discord and connecting with communities and friends; back when discord was small and Skype was still popular, we all jumped to discord when we heard they had better call features.
well at least they fixed the gif glitch when you sent a gif too fast or something, it would end up glitching and you could send random gif if you press on the screen

Hi NTTS. On the topic of the onboarding feature, if you want to have less default channels than what is required, just create a bunch of temporary channels, make them default and then delete the temporary channels. Using this method, you can trick Discord into letting you have only a small amount of default channels.

Overall the worst one I believe was the new mobile ui. I hate it a lot, but I hate it even more because it doesn’t have a notification tabs for me. So far I couldn’t find a fix (except for switching back to old ui) so I’ll still be coping.

They're cheaper than before, probably a marketing sunt (go out overly expensive, then lower to the intended expensive price). Regardless, 4-5 for a decoration on your avatar, a decoration they will sell over and over again; the total amount they will earn from it, is way more than it did cost them to draw it.
Certainly the worst year of discord for me. I lost my username I had since 2015, so now I have a stupid looking one while my friends kept theirs. I know most people will say it doesn't matter but it does to me.

Just use an ad-blocker but some websites force you to have your ad-blocker turned off so if that happens you have to continually turn on and off your ad blocker for that reason.

problem with security keys on basically every platform that supports them: - They require you to have another factor enabled as well - They make using the key an "or" not "and", so they are entirely useless as an attacker could just... use auth codes...

I'm still convinced Discord's statistics for the username change were bs. I had no idea what a "discriminator" was, but I definitely knew about the "4 number code thingy" Discord either didn't ask users at all and botched the numbers or went "Hey, do you know what a discriminator is?" and took the "no" people gave at face value instead of clarifying that this new word actually refers to the 4 numbers at the end of each username. I genuinely refuse to believe a majority of Discord users (according to the stats) didn't know about those 4 numbers considering they were a requirement to find and add friends on the platform.

for the ui, I just use a mobile vencord plugin that adds the functionality discord removed, like seeing the members of servers and dm's, sending images and videos, watching live streams. discord plans to make vencord not work on mobile, and if that happens I'll have to use an older version of discord and get used to the old ui again.

The mobile ui change was awful, I though the usernames change system was unnecessary and stupid when we had so many things that needed fixing on mobile app but then they had to do THAT. We complain about images cropping nad resizing randomly on android app and they say "here have this buggy mess no one in beta liked, isnt it amazing?" I just went to use Vendetta and Aliucord instead... The new ui was extra irritating with my ocd and after experiencing one bug where it tried to send my very private message to the wrong person (or rather a public server) I gave up on it, especially when other people said it was a really common issue for them mainly with photos suppposedly. Am I misremembering the date or was the weird Android update that was just a poorly copy/paste of the iOS app in 2023? Was it 2022? That was annoying as hell for the duration it was out. And firing people to use money on ai that breaks their tos, yeah, havent heard THAT one before, companies definitely arent getting criticized for thet one a lot lately. Still not happy with the shop if Im honest, spending money on nitro was enough but now this is getting ridiculous, I dont care if the prices dropped its overpriced for a little circle/square over your pfp. I think one of the most egregious things this year was their free nitro offer. It was entirely planned through to protect themselves, put out a free nitro offer right before their ui they KNEW everyone was complaining about, so that they coule post all their hype around the ui immediately after and show their stockholders "look! People really like our new change, just look at the number of current nitro users around the time of release! So stay with us for more money!" Gross. Not quite to Blizzard levels of marketing to hide a controversy, but manipulative all the same.
And of course if you complain about this anywhere people will say you're chronically online and a baby over it, like you can't be annoyed or frustrated with something without people who cried over the Twitter to X change or poorly "went on strike" against Reddit for a couple days then came back saying "that the username and ui changes are fine and you can't be upset".

Together with a team, I'm running a server for a local community, but to get allowed in the server, you have to send some personal data, as a means to confirm who you are, which means you'll only see this one special channel. Once you do that, and get the members role, you'll get access to the rest of the server. Due to this system, we can't use onboarding *at all*, because, there's only one chattable and 2 readable channels available if you join.
