  • I always scrape never cut, if you cut and make a mistake you have to start again, after scraping i use a rasping file sandpaper and so on. In trade school I was laughed at for scraping but the finished product always perfect.

    • Thank you very much for your comment, it helps me understand where some Woodturners are coming from. It is all complicated. And there is a risk with whatever we do, including how to cut with a gouge. I have my opinion about this that I have developed over 35 years of Turning. Learning to cut does take time and there is a risk. But in my opinion, there is nothing that produces a cleaner or better surface than cutting with a gouge thanks Sam.

  • Sam, I notice you’re using a Robust tool handle. I have two of them and find them a little lightweight. Is it just that I’m used to heavier handles? What is your experience with them?

    • I do not use any of the wooden robust handles. Although I’ve sold a few. All of the wooden handles that you see me using, I have made. But I do agree they are not very heavy. It might be better for lighter, smaller tool, steel, Sam.
