I cry every time I listen to this song 😢😢. This was a genuine prayer by MAUMAU to Ngai Mwene Nyaga. 'Twakuhoya tukonana twi ithuothe' they prayed for a safe return for all them after the war, 'hindi iyo kieha nigigathira, njamba cia ita na aciari aitu' and on that moment all the sadness and sorrow that the warriors and their parents had will come to an end after they meet again 😢😢😢.

Gaceri witu!
If you read the book 'Imperial reckoning - the untold story of Britain's Gulag in Kenya' and listen to this song you can shed a tear. The amount of suffering gikuyu people went through from 1900s to 1963. One lawyers said he was convinced without doubt that there was a plan by white man to wipe out the gikuyu people. Records show that close to 400,00 gikuyu were killed through torture and absolute barbarism in order to get their land. For that I will always be thankful for MAU MAU.
Is it available in soft copy? I would like to have it...
This should be made mandatory in all schools. They should stop teaching our children surface level knowledge. This song carries so much pain and dedication for instance.
Sad story to those who lost never had to see their grandfathers yet the colonialistso are still worshipped by our politicians
In fact part of the book reports that articles would be published about how barbaric and backward the Agikuyu were to the extent that they wrote 'A good Kyuk is a dead Kyuk'... And yes the term Kyuk was used then by them
@@irenenyambura9470Very true. They say history is written by the conqueror. The current model that has some strong neocolonial influences deprives one of their rightful pride in their African identity.

If your Kikuyu spirit does not wake up when you listen to this then you are not one. And if you are not it still gets to your heart. Culture is everything no matter the type of culture, lose it and lose yourself
Correct
Culture is slavery. It just depends you apply it. I believe in universal culture for humanity-Love, peace, unity, respect and being responsible and accountable parents to our kids. Why do we have Street kids in Kenyan streets after all these men who go through the "rite of passage"-purpose of ego. Kenyan men don't hold doors for women and kids, 30yo and 70yo man hang out boozing(where is the application of culture here).

Wow angela
I will never get tired listening to this song... Weka blue tusonge nayo 2020
This song was a prayer before they went for battle against the colonialist. At that time, they had lost hope for a better future (kíeha) because the white man had taken away their freedom and mostly, their key capital which was also their children's inheritance, that is the land. The prayer was an appeal to God , the one who takes care (Mutangíri) of their army [ita, bet you heard off ita rí hamwe or intrahamwe from our cousins in Rwanda] the one who receives sacrifices offered by His people ( Mwamukíri magongona ma andú airú) to let love and respect [read obedience to authority while in battle] (wendani na gítío)reign among His people and genuine concern over the welfare of the community (tha nyingi cia rwendo rwa rurírí) and the unity of purpose in the community as desired in times of battle (úiguano wa Gikuyu na Mumbi) and lastly, that they may win the war and thrive again ( tukonana ringi, hindí ío kíeha nígígathira...) My interpretation isn't literal, as , most kikuyu songs can't fit that bill. They have mich deeper meaning than the leiteral words express. ... The prayer also curses the collaborators because instead of fighting for freedom they are fighting for slavery and no Kikuyu was ever a slave, may be a servant but not a slave. Slavery was a curse. If I could add, that last bit...Túrí a Mumbi...means we belong to God the creator.. its the prayer ending with confirming that all said and done ,we belong to God.
I'm Borana but this song is so African and so original...after it was posted by kimathis daughter I had to come look for it here but the saddest part is the heroes, warriors and fighters who paid with their blood to have the countries are still languishing in poverty... losing even the land they fought for!!..homeguards are running the country with a lot of impunity.,.. they are even shaving the war veterans before rolling cameras... unfortunate
Very Very 😔 sad!

Maasai and Kikuyu were brothers. Wokabi and Nyokabi are those from the Maasai. Ngelai my great great grandfather was from Maasai.
Maasai and Agikuyu have a very interesting and very similar history...I especially respect the fact they are the two tribes who couldn't stand enslavement. Slavers wouldn't make it through their lands if they dared venture there.

Songs
A God who accepts Black people sacrifices got me shedding tears when i remember how our forefathers were mistreated .
Good God you who defends our warriors. You who receive the offerings of black people. You go ahead of us and we can't be defeated by our enemies You our creator we worship you. We pray for love and respect for one another And a lot of mercy and love for our people Togetherness for Gikuyu and Mumbi Our God we pray We pray that we all shall meet together again From Ngong hills to Mt Tura That time we will no longer worry. Our warriors and our parents. You betrayers fight for slavery When our warriors are fighting for the country which we inherited from Gikuyu and Mumbi Oh God, we pray. Good God you who defend our warriors. You who receive the offerings of black people. You go ahead of us and we can't be defeated by our enemies You our creator we worship you. We pray for love and respect and a lot of mercy for the love of our people Togetherness for Gikuyu and Mumbi Our God we pray You God, you God, father of our forefathers the only God. You're the only God, the only God You who gave victory to our warriors. A little history for context Agikuyu god is called Ngai and they all believe their parents were Gikuyu and Mumbi. They believed their God lived on top of Mt Kenya (which was Mt Kirinyaga) where he watched over them and would move along the Ngong hills, Kilima Mbogohills Aberdare ridges and other mountains. Mwene Nyaga is another name for Gikuyu God. Kamatimu are the betrayers. Mt.Karimatura is the furthest of all Gikuyu mountains.
kagutui ka mucii gatihako ageni
Not KARIMATURA but GARBA TULA, the northernmost end of GEMA territory. Garba Tula is the border between Merus and Boranas. This is Mau Mau War song and as you well know, it was the GEMA communities that were involved in the uprising.
