How I Budget & Live Simply Whilst Living Alone | slow living & minimalism

A video about how I live simply and still enjoy the finer things whilst living alone and managing my own finances.
Simple living, minimalism and slow living should not be expensive nor complicated, but like myself I'm sure you've felt it be that way. I think there are a lot misconceptions about minimalism and slow living that it means deprivation and having to be super frugal, stingy and live a life of deprivation, but it really doesn't have to be this way. I live alone and manage my own finances and budget myself whilst living a simple living lifestyle and I can honestly say I have never felt more "rich" enjoying the simple things and being able to live a life where I don't have to compromise the quality of things.
In this video I want to share some tips and tricks how I live simply and budget whilst living alone that hopefully can give you some inspiration to enjoy the finer things in life on a budget without having to live a life of deprivation or extreme frugality.
I hope you find this helpful and a useful insight into how to live more simply especially when living alone.
Please like, share and subscribe if you haven't already I really appreciate all of your support :)
Wishing you a happy and peaceful day wherever you are!

Honey & Oat Artisan Bread
Ingredients
Dry ingredients:
390g strong white bread flour
60g oats
10g quick yeast
40g sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds
2 tablespoons flax seeds
1 teaspoon salt
Wet ingredients:
120g warm water (not too hot!)
60g milk of choice (I use oat milk)
40g honey
1 tablespoon olive oil
Additional:
A few tablespoons extra flour for shaping
1 tablespoons sunflower or pumpkin seeds for on top of bread
Method
1.In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, yeast, sunflower seeds, flax seeds and salt (dry ingredients).
2. In a jug add water and milk. Stir the honey and olive oil into the water/milk mixture once warm. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon until just incorporated, do not over mix.
3.Cover with plastic wrap and let stand at room temperature for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
4.After the dough has risen, place it on a well-floured surface and sprinkle it with a little flour. Using a scraper (or your hands is fine), fold dough over about 8-10 times and then flip over and shape into a ball.
5.Place dough in a parchment paper-lined large bowl, sprinkle some seeds on top of the dough (optional) and cover with a warm towel. Allow the dough to rest (prove) again for about 45 minutes to an hour.
6.Right around the 30 minute preheat your oven to 230 degrees C and place your dutch oven inside to preheat.
7.Once the oven has preheated, remove the pot from the oven and immediately add the parchment paper with the dough to the hot pot (be careful as it will be hot!), cover with the lid and bake for 25 minutes.
8.After 25 minutes, remove the lid from the pot and return to the oven, uncovered.
9.Bake for 10-15 more minutes until bread is nice and golden on top to your liking.
10.Allow bread to cool for an hour before slicing, then tuck in and enjoy :)

  • I am 70, live alone on a low income and it is not hard to live on a tight budget. You have to sit down and prioritize your needs and then problem solve. It is cheaper eating at home with a home cook meal versus eating out for instance. You can get free to low cost entertainment by borrowing from the library website movies to electronic books for free or paying for Disney Plus, Max, Netflix or Amazon Prime for movies or tv shows which comes at A cost for a month of one movie ticket. During the summer, cities and towns normally have outdoor music concerts for free. You can do a lot of activities for free. You can also decorate your place for free or for not much by checking Craig's List FREE section, pick up stuff off the curb on trash day or, do thrift shops or yard sales. You just need to be a little creative in your thinking.

    • Thank you for sharing this, I love the suggestions you’ve made here and have made note of your tips!☺️ I completely agree it’s more simple to budget for one person as opposed to living in a household. You just have to be a bit more creative and cut your cloth accordingly! Both of which are beneficial for learning and our wallet!😄

But I know I can pay the bills because I work full time and I only buy if I need something. For food I buy off brand at Walmart and I own my car. Seeing that you are managing your finances on your own means I can do it too!!!

I try to spend that time with my family. Unfortunately, I live in the neighboring states which is far enough but we are able to get together, we do spend quality time. • I baked my own bread for years. When my late father retired he took up bread baking as a hobby, and was real good at it. It inspired me to do it for myself. As I got older it became laborious, because life sometimes draws you away to other tasks. There's an old fashioned family run bakery just down the street from me who bakes fresh bread daily so now I get all my breads there. Never will buy store bought bread ever. Buying fresh bakery bread frees my time to do other things. Your bread looks fantastic.

    • Thank you, I have added the recipe to the description if you want to give it a try!😋 I’m around Cheshire & The Peak District⛰️ How adorable, it sounds like the perfect little set up to me!☺️ I really hope to get a dog one day to join me on my hikes, the perfect companion!🫶 I have never been but Devon looks stunning, the scenery is truly spectacular and with spring in the air it couldn’t sound any more beautiful! Sending my best wishes to you and Madge✨

  • Mmmmmmm now that bread did look tasty Holly, you do make it look so easy. I live alone too and do like making the odd thing but to me there's just so much time goes into bread with letting it sit and all that i couldn't be doing with it haha. As always brilliant video Holly and looking as beautiful as ever i may say. Well it's snowing here in Yorkshire now so day at home for me, too cold to go out lol. Take care and keep doing what you do best Holly, you're a 'STAR' 🌟🌟🌟☺☺❤❤

    • Thank you Andy😄 It certainly took a bit of practice but the more I got into it the easier it’s become! Patience and practice as two essential qualities for bread making I’ve come to find, but make it 100% worthwhile!😋 So glad you enjoyed this video! Thanks again for watching and your support as always☺️

  • Good afternoon holly and back again for another news about my situation My salary has been increasing from 1600€ to 1800€ but it will never change my habits , my mindset is powerful and i never feel so relaxing since i don't eat before 12 o'clock , our body helps us in our choices , everyday i try to make more and more to accomplish my plans This video is making very good , lovely kitchen , it reminds everything i have to cook , by the way , i found a new recipe written on a cornflakes package , a delicious brownie with a few ingredients , eggs , bananas , i like making porridge too Did you have a favourite book about frugality and investments ? • Thank you for your comment and sharing your experiences😄 I’m glad to hear things have been moving in the right direction for you!☺️ Some exciting recipe experimentation going on too!😋 Some of my fav ‘money’ books are more around minimalism and simple living (as opposed to finance specifically). I particularly like Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman which is more time management but encompasses things like work, money etc and offered a refreshing perspective on what we should be focusing on in life😊

  • Quality = form and substance merged with frugality. Some self reliance at the expense of group integration can be a balanncing act between bella solituine team love.

    • @@lagomhollyoh sorry! I should have clarified. I meant the seasoned vegetable dish, I think it was??

      @debg6886@debg68863 ай бұрын
    • @@debg6886 oh my mistake!😄 It was just mixed veggies (peppers, courgette, onion & mushrooms) with fajitas spices (paprika, garlic granules, salt, pepper, cinnamon, onion granules, chilli powder) for some fajitas😋 Served with homemade guac and feta cheese🌮✨I hope that helps!☺️
