  • Truly, if you have decided to grow your art skills through watching tutorials. Then you are on a good path. I can't stress the amount of time I wasted aimlessly doodling to no avail. I finally decided to look up practices such drawing boxes and then moving to gesture drawing and it really did wonders on my progress. I can say that I strongly grew from stage 1 to 5 within a month of giving myself 2-3 hours of practice a day. While he does provide stages to skills, I would like to stress that touching into higher stages may help with the growth of your current goals. Don't limit yourself, making mistakes paves the way for success and no one can judge you for wanting to improve.

  • Thank you for the amazing video! Here are some notes I added while watching this. Art Fundamentals: - Simple/Basics - 1. 2:14 Linework: Use DrawABox to learn this. 2. 3:23 Shape Language (Shape Design): taco1704's books or socials for character ref. & "Manga Materials" 3. 4:16 Forms (3D shapes): Use DrawABox to learn this. 4. 5:35 Anatomy (Put forms together in a precise construction): taco1704's books or socials for character ref. & "Manga Materials" 5. 7:03 Perspective (Forms from different points of view & Vaninshing points): Use DrawABox to learn this or Book: "How to Draw" By Scott Robertson 6. 8:58 Gesture (Dynamics): For characters use any "figure drawing" reference resource i.e: LineOfAction, PoseManiacs, Proko on YT, etc. - Advanced - 7. 11:26 Perspective: has different ranges of difficulty; you will notice this with 3+ point-perspective and rotating cubes in space. 8. 12:22 Shape Language: Creating and modifying shapes by "Extruding, carving, or intersecting." YTber ModernDayJames' perspective series goes in-depth with this topic. Also, introduce creating organic shapes into this practice. 9. 13:39 Anatomy(face/head): At an advanced level, you should target each fundamental to specific things you wish to add to your mental visual library. I recommend taco1704, MangaMaterials, & Andrew Loomis to learn how to draw heads. 10. 14:40 Shading/Lighting: Here, you learn about how light interacts with the planes on different Forms. This video showcases the "Asaro Head," which we use to simplify the planes of the face. You'll want to study Values by similarly simplifying forms into flat planes and then making them organic once you understand lighting & shading from the direction of light. 11. Composition: How a creative work is structured in order to communicate an intent to the consumer. This can be seen in almost all artistic mediums, and it is a key step in pre-planning an art piece that brings satisfaction. Study industry Professionals, respected classical art masters, & your favorite advanced artists as well. 12. Rendering & Shading: This is where we establish a step-by-step on how we layer our colors, shading, and linework to bring a certain style or interpretation to a piece. It heavily relies on a deep understanding of Values & Forms. Other fundamentals also apply, such as Anatomy, Composition, & Perspective. 13. FUN: This is a fundamental you'll want to apply throughout your entire journey. A lot of these topics can be difficult and frustrating at times, but if you keep an eye on how much fun you're having messing around, Experimenting, and even making horrible pieces of art, you'll be able to mitigate a lot of that frustration into Fun. Note: Please remember to enjoy doing your art, be silly and loose where you can; and let yourself explore the possibilities. Don't just do studies or practices. Try to get out of your comfort zone or what you've consumed. Mix, match, copy, it is all allowed. Don't let others rope you into thinking you can't copy or trace for learning purposes. And please, please, please... ALWAYS USE REFERENCE. any kind of reference, even if it doesn't match what you're doing 1-to-1. God bless you all and good luck on your artistic journey!

  • I have seen hundredds of tutorial in my art journey. Especially/spoecifically ones like these that claim to give an outline of how to learn how to draw. But for the first time, I can confidently say that THIS right here, is THE. ONE. TRUE. ART GUIDE! I drew a lot as a kid, but stoped drawing in my teen years. Trying t pick back up this hobby as an adult has been frustrating because I simply had no idea where to start. Watching this was like being enlightened. I traveled back in time and saw my child self learning these skills from simple clean lines, to basic shapes, and even "3D Vision". I remember temporarily picking up art again as a teen, and learning simple anatomy, then dropping it again lol. This video resonated with me immensely, as I literally watched my art journey explained in detail, and now, I know where to move forward. I feel like the path that was once blurred and complex, has been simplified and defined for me, and for that I'm am eternally grateful. Awesome Video! Awesome KZheadr! Awesome Artist. From a Novice, Thanks!!! :)

To that end, I bought the kindle version of Zeichnen like a Sir. Between my prior anatomy education and my roots, I will do just fine with your book being in your most comfortable language.... • I have two more tips as of someone who went to art uni and is interested in making manga: 1. The last point about observation is insanely important. The first uni semester they had us take a course on it. It was called "visual structures" where they basically teach you basic and more advanced spacial/value/ color conections between structures and seeing certain patterns. And aslo what they mean and convey, it's insanely important to remember that how you compose elements on paper also gives them meaning and tells the viewer what they should feel looking at it. 2. The next thing is for manga creation not only art skills are needed. We had a film directing course just to know how to storyboard/make comic because comic uses film making theiry a lot. Some of the things it uses are technical so like how to choose a frame, how to compose your story, how to use light and shadow or the 180° rule. But there are also other that are more connected to visial communication so knowing what composition, perspective and movement convey, it's tied to what I was talking about in the 1st point. Combination of your art skills and the movie making theory will result in your manga/comic looking very cinematic and being easier to read for the viewer. Manga making journey is very complex but it makes it so much more interesting. Don't get overwhelmed and try to improve little by little everyday. Remember we learn our whole lifes and that journey is supposed to be fun. Hope I helped out a bit.

  • This is a nice way to frame the gradual build-up of skills. I especially like the separation of "Basic" and "Advanced" anatomy and shading as topics. Part of what stopped me from drawing was how daunting the idea was of plunging headlong into memorizing every muscle group and bone's name. This feels like it would make that task more approachable.

  • For landscape/environment artists, the "Anatomy" skills could be swapped out for reference drawing. The goal of this would be to increase your visual library as an artist, getting progressively more advanced with each skill. The simple anatomy equivalent; an opportunity to practice basic thumbnail sketching. The advanced anatomy equivalent; an opportunity learn how to render objects with specific materials. The middle stage would be somewhere in between these.
