We use it all the time but most people have never actually seen the inner workings of an escalator!

Music:
Express by Eveningland (KZhead Audio Library)
Summer by Benjamin Tissot (www.bensound.com)
Made with Blender 2.80, Cycles & Eevee Render
Here is some of the gear that I use for animation:
Graphics Card: GTX 1080ti amzn.to/2t70HN0
CPU: i7-8700k amzn.to/2WEk9OE
Motherboard: Asus Prim Z370-A amzn.to/2t4EVth
Microphone: Samson Go Mic amzn.to/2GaSpvV
Mouse: Logitech G600 amzn.to/2UKhf9P
📼Video Summary:
I've animated the inside to give you a detailed look at the steps, step chain, gears, handrail, and the motor. My favorite part is how the steps always stay level when they're on top. In this video we also take a look at how escalators layouts such as side by side or the criss-cross configuration. And yes...they really do have spiral escalators! Maybe I'll cover that in a future video.

    • Jared, thanks! Great job! Would you please also consider modeling hi speed travelator. It's a moving walkway in which each segment has two parts that can expand. It slows down gradually at the beginning and at the end so people can get on and off, but the speed at the middle is always fast! @johnhickman106@johnhickman1062 жыл бұрын
  • Actually most escalators (that I used anyway) will have the handrail moving a bit faster than the steps. I looked it up and one reason I found has to do with wear, over time reducing the handrail speed. So this way, they get a better service life out of it. Another reason I found is safety. It would actually go faster on escalators going up, and slower on ones going down (which I think is also what I’ve seen). If someone who counts on the handrail for balance falls, they’d fall on the escalator upwards. I think my father (who was a maintenance technician in a large department store) actually mentioned the safety reason to me.

For 3D modeling you can use either: 3Dsmax, Blender, Sketchup, Rhinoceros, etc. Each of them can make their own style animation and some needs plugins for more complex modifications. I’m also 3D artist myself, check my works at 3d-rendering-edsons.business.site/?

  • I'm not sure about escalators in US, but here in Europe, the handrail moves slightly faster than the stairs. This is intentional, because it keeps you aware of your surroundings and thus keeps you awake. If you fell asleep on the escalators, you might end up in hospital after a rather curious accident.
