The entire Souls series main story summarised in 15 minutes!
I appreciate there are a few gaps with some great individual stories, unfortunately, as I wanted to keep this video as compact as possible I omitted their stories.
Time Stamps:
Dark Souls 1: 0:00
Dark Souls 2: 06:00
Dark Souls 3: 09:42
Impressive how much you included in 15 minutes without making it chaotic
I have a shorter version: You died

You are a hidden gem. I wish you the best of luck against the most saturated market of British dark souls youtubers lol
Underrated comment
I've always wondered what the world of Dark Souls would've looked like if Gwyn had allowed nature to run its course.
Gwyn did not command witch of izalith to recreate the first flame, it was the witch of izalith's own idea to make a new source of power which in turn transformed her into bed of chaos
Well that does not really matter, does it?
And that helps us, how?
People watch a lore video and then get upset when a comment corrects the lore
@@titusjonas9514 It's just a correction.

Wow, I have never seen anyone explain the Dark Souls lore this good in 15 minutes. Subbed
I've been playing Dark Souls for years now and still didn't know the full story. Lol. I've never had the patience to watch a 3 hour video on it, and this was awesome, being able to get it in 15 mins. Thanks Legend.
Seath is for all practical purposes, a Dracolich. His flesh and blood has been crystallized and his immortality is directly tied to the Primordial Crystal, his Phylactery. So long as the PC was unbroken, Seath was a true immortal. (It just turns out that a lazy guard would eventually lead to a death spiral of events that would countermand Seath's efforts.)
I want a Dark Souls Prequel where we see Gwyn in his Prime and his Kingdom in full Glory.
Dude, this is epic. You deserve so much praise for how well you explained this.
Amazing how I was able to understand it in 15 minutes. You used very clear explanation. Thank you.
It feels like such a long time ago since I finished the DS series.. the key points are there and you did a great job but, the details of what it took to get to these points and that curiosity that leads you off the main paths into the details is what sticks. I'm definitely still sitting hear trying to remember it all
This was impressively organized and informative, good job on that!
never played the souls games myself, so as someone who knows literally nothing of the world: you did a bloody good job
Bro wanted VatiVidyas videos to be shorter 😂 I honestly thought you were a bigger channel, congrats with the quality content 👏
This is very well written, great explanation with fun quips in between
Awesome video, I've played and seen longplays of these games multiple times but still never knew the story had so much breadth and depth. Thank you.
You earned a new subscriber! Excellently explained!
Thank you so much for this masterpiece. As someone who had only invested time in the third game, I always wanted to have a deeper understanding of the souls series because the themes and lore are just so fascinating and familiar. I now feel a bit more complete as a hollow myself.
Wow..just wow...I've finally get an understanding only through this vid. Super impressive..a true hidden gem
Very good video! Keep up the good solid lore telling
Genuinely really good video I hope it becomes one of those random videos that blow up for under 100k subscriber channels because it deserves more views
you got some of it wrong, the first born of gwyn is exiled after gwyn goes to link the first flame, also the one we fight under that tower is probably not havel
Seath also didn't create the archives, it was a gift from Gwyn as well a dukedom
dont care

that was exactly what i needed thx a lot !
Perfect summary thank you
keep up the good work love ur videos
Amazing job man! All the other videos explaining the lore are either freaking 2 hour long or just terribly narrated. Not only did you manage to summarize the story without missing out important details but also didn't make it too fast and untidy. Bravo❤👍👍👍👏👏
I thought Aldia was the Lothric's teacher, not Sulyvahn. Also it seems Abyss Watchers and Yhorm were willing to rekindle the flame, although Abyss Watchers probably meant to rekindle it after beating Wolnir, and Yhorm not really had much reason not to. Even those two aside, Ludleth was already there to rekindle the flame. Why Cinder woke the Unkindled when there was already Ludleth to rekindle the flame?
First soulsgame I've beaten was bloodborne, than dark souls 3, 1 and 2 haven't played yet since I thought they are not connected. I started than dark souls 1 and came to firelink shrine which looks way different than in dark souls 3. Looked for video to explain the connection and story and there is no video on the internet that says so much in 15minutes. Thank you.
Its like the classic quest for immortality with all of the trials and tribulations retold in many different ways over and over again, But all in the same place
Bro I’ve never played any of these games but once h started explaining dark souls 2 I got soooo bored and then 3 brought me back
Not even ur fault cuz you did great , the storyline jus sucked
Yep and the third plus the dlc kept me here , loved it. I see why 2 got hate now 😂
Great video, think you can make one explaining the call of duty zombies storyline?
This is very well done thank you! I listened to it but still have no idea what’s happening.
You deserve a follow
yeah cool, and I see the painting as a metaphor for a new game, the painter as a metaphor for a new developer
Patches is Gwynn's true son.
Great video
AKCHUALLY - gwyn asked the witches of izalith the extend the flame not make a new one
Didn't Gwynevere and Gwyndolin had a sister, Yorshka? Also as a speculation, that nameless son of Gwyn could be Nameless King.
I thought mulling the flame bring in the next age. Which is good because the whole series we’ve been prolonging the next age
How does this only have 12k views
This was great! :) One idea i've been thinking about is the They that came from the Dark are actually seeds of the archtrees. This would explain the rootlike growth on hollows, most pronounced on the Four Kings, and people turning into trees in DS3. Also the term hollow is a common word used to describe hollow trees, maybe implying that humans are in fact trees infused with life and when that life is spent we are left hollow husks. Either way hollow is an unusual term for an undead fiend. I think the advent of fire and it's end is in fact part of the archtrees lifecycle. One could draw parallells to forestfires in the real world. Pine specifically, a common reference in dark souls, thrive in the aftermath of forestfires. One of pines many adaptations to fire are serotinous cones. These cones are glued shut with a strong resin and stays shut long after its seeds have matured only to be released when fire melts the resin and spreads the seeds. I would enter the item human pine resin into evidence at this point. I theorycraft alot but don't have the technical know-how to make videos (old). Im so glad someone does! The Dark souls community is awesome. And it's so great people are still making content :). Praise the sun!
This is such a wonderfully thought out theory!!
@@BestiaryYT Thanks :) glad you got something out of it. Later edit: holy crap! Did not realize it was you.
It is not comfirmed that the scholar who doubted the linking of the fire was Pontiff Sulyvhahn
Right, also it's possible that the scholar is Aldia. He's still "alive" and bound to the flame
Nito is not the first undead but the first dead
I hope one day I can understand
nito hes soul is just chilling underground
Love this but if there were only dragons and trees, where did the humanoids come from…?
As i understand there was some time between first flame apperance and its discovery. In mean time live creatures were born, pygmies amongst them.
The first flame created disparity, and with that came the formation of different things. Many living things were born of the dark that was created in contrast to the light from the flame
A great chest.. Tought we were letting that slip?😂
You start with the start ,😂😂how insightful
Could the dark souls world itself have been a painting and could the painter just keeping travelling through the paintings and make new ones?
"Regardless, we kill them all" is a good summary
Video is W
Dark souls 4 has a nice ring to it
Just another tip: Elden Ring, the Ringed City
To say ds2s story isn't canon is bizarre to me. I think story wise it's my favorite in the whole trilogy
I immensely prefer the direction DS2’s story took compared to 1 and 3. It felt more personal and human. A lot of people say that they didn’t like how insignificant drangleic was, THAT’S exactly why I love it. It also felt like ds2 had the most plot twists and revelations overall. I completely lost my shit when I found out the truth about the queens.
They say that because they don’t like the game because of its many mechanical issues, world design, and lackluster boss design. It absolutely is canon. It added more context to some of the main themes of the trilogy, as well as humanity’s relationship to fire and darkness. I played DS2 last from the trilogy, and when I went to play 3 again I felt like I had a more complete picture of the entire story. Sad the aforementioned issues dragged it down so much in terms of love within the fandom.
Where does one figure all of this out? I just feel these games are so opaque I would never work out the relationships between the different characters
Wow! Amazing vid. I learned a lot in only 15min
At the beginning there were trees and dragons: just as in Elden Ring
If the DLC is in the past, then how could Oolacile be alive in the golden golem in the present? At the end of the DLC after the Manus fight, Oolacile is lying on the ground dying. The DLC being in the past I'd an interesting concept nonetheless, I haven't heard that before.
She survived. If you speak to her in the present after killing Manus, she will tell you her memories of that day.
Also if you take a secret path in the DLC you can find and rescue a younger version of Sif. If you do this before her boss fight, an alternative cutscene will occur where she seemingly recognises you.
There’s a few things incorrect with this but impressive nonetheless.
Lmao 250 subs somehow damn, hope u blow up
So doe the hollows become more human again after the fire gets kindled
To start the dark souls storyline you should probably have started with demon's souls being it started it all,
Wait but why was linking the fire so important.. If it was just a cycle that kept repeating.... Wat did it matter if it was rekindled or not?
A very. Nice. Chest.
I wonder the name “Dark Souls” was plan for the ending or otherwise?
No ok there is a misandertanding with the dark souls lore , Gwin knew created vuluntarily the darksign ,the the cult of the chosen undead , so the linking of the fire could continue olso after his death , the bell gargoiles , sens’fortress, where a trayal for the chowsen undead’s to come
Mostly accurate but also wrong in places or too simplistic, still a lot for just 15 mins
no fucking clue but very interesting
I disagree with the idea that hollowing is humanity's natural form. From ds1 we know the opposite, that humanity is what prevents hollowing. So i'd say hollowing instead signifies the lack of humanity.
This is just speculation on my part but it seems to me that the dark sign is fueled by the age of fire. When it's fading the sign takes hold on people as a desperate attempt to keep the flame burning. But when it fully fades, the dark sign disapears and humans will finally get their mortality back. That's at least how I interpret it.
Important moral takeaways from the souls series: - your commitment to your unique purpose is your strength - in dark souls, the cycle goes that every attempt to rekindle the flame is an attempt to hold on to the power which people believe makes them strong. Everything fades, nothing lasts forever, which leads to nothing but sorrow. At the heart of the story, the main conflict is the pain of holding on to that which is comfortable. - all sane characters you meet are people driven with purpose. Although they seem to maintain good spirits, they all too eventually die or go hollow. - the answer to how to escape the inevitable failures onset by linking the flame is complex in execution, but simple in intention. Open a new door into the unknown to bring an age of uncertainty. The slim possibility for a better world is arguably better than being subjected to the same nightmare for eternity. - in real life terms, quit the 9-5. Start a KZhead channel. Join a cult. Get into bitcoin. Learn how to sew fun little hats. Go against the grain. The best characters in Dark Souls are often the most whimsical and extraordinary people.
-do communism and drugs

Elden Ring is the new painted World?
More likely bloodborn
And then….
Nah man don’t make sexist jokes but great video
Brilliantly summarized. Good work, well done. Thank you for your hard work explaining the convoluted lore. I still don't really believe that DS2 is canon though.

So this has nothing to do with elden ring ?
Not story-wise
I still don’t get it

first game only good one
"Dark Souls 2 is cannon": Proceeds to explain the lore of a game set in a different time, different characters, with only a vague similarity to the themes of the first game, and does not advance the narrative arc of the series in any meaningful way.
different time because it’s a sequel Different characters because it’s a different time and most old characters are dead It literally shares the same themes as ds1 while adding new ones A story chapter doesn’t need to move the whole narrative forward to be canon. Don’t know what to tell you. You’re just wrong. Just say that you don’t like the game. There’s no way the game is not canon. The devs said it, the evidence says it. If it isn’t canon in your head so be it. But facts are facts.
@@illusion8457 OK. I don't like the game.
This was very basic. I knew there wouldn't be much lore in 15 minutes
Ya some people don’t wanna watch an over hour long video
There's no story in Dark Souls, it's just a bunch of nonsense. It's good to play but not for the story.
Great Video, Dark Souls 2 shouldn't be in here. Game's lacklustre, trash mechanic etc
My brother in Christ this is a complete timeline lore vide, regardless of what you think of the damn game it is still part of the timeline. You DS2 haters are pretty funny with how your brain works frfr.
this comment is trash compared to DS2 and i hate DS2
it arguably has the best story of the 3 games
wanna know something? miyazaki himself considers dark souls 2 canon, there is a reason dark souls 2 characters show up in 3, because the game is canon.
@@walkingglasses6264 the mental gymnastics one has to go through to hate on ds2... it was a fine RPG and people act like ds1 and 3 didn't have any bad mechanics either. They all have flaws but what matters to us ds2 fans is that the game was fun and creative.
I don't understand. What was the specific effect of the "dark sign" ? You say the sign imprisons the humans and is at the same time the source of their hollowing at 14:25, followed immediately by the statement along the lines of "without the fire the sign weakens and thus we go hollow, the natural course of action". This would mean that hollowing wasn't induced by the dark sign, but that by simply having a dark soul, you will go hollow. so which one is it? Having a dark soul means you're going to go hollow and the dark signed staved it off or humans go hollow because of the dark sign (which at the same time staved off the hollowing) ?
Dark souls 3 canon ending: The painter fucked up the painting and accidentally made Yharnam
