  • The irony with the CTE scandal, is that the NFL sponsored the initial research, but once they noticed that CTE was a massive issue within the NFL and can be proven to be caused by on the field injuries, they pulled the plug on the research. Afterall, winning and money are much more important than the health of the players.

  • I would like to add NASCAR’s 2013 Spingate onto this list, albeit in the future. For those who maybe don’t know about it, here’s a brief summary: in the fall Richmond race in 2013, Clint Bowyer spun himself out on purpose to manipulate the outcome of the race in order to get his Michael Waltrip Racing teammate, Martin Truex Jr. into the Chase. Initially, Truex was in, but after an investigation by NASCAR, Truex was knocked out of the Chase, and Jeff Gordon took his place via a wildcard spot. Still to this day, it is the biggest monetary fine a team has recieved in NASCAR history, with MWR being hit with a $300K fine. It would end up being the final nail in the coffin for the team as it would cease operations following the 2015 season.

      @Charlie-rx3ni@Charlie-rx3ni9 ай бұрын
    • @@Charlie-rx3ni There are reasons why gambling is prohibited, the main one being that it can lead to the player fixing games to make the bettors in on the schemes a boatload of cash. Pete's contention was that he was betting on the Reds and never fixed a game in the process. While I hope that one day the MLB commissioner might have a change of heart to consider what he contributed to baseball before he was found guilty, I do understand why they took the action. There was a precedent in the case of the White Sox scandal of 1919, and to treat him differently based on who he was would have been wrong.

Michael Schumacher won for Ferrari, his team mate, Rubens Barrichello was second and Taigo Montiero was third for Jordan), Spygate (where McLaren was found to be in possession of thousands of pages of confidential Ferrari technical information in 2007, after initially being cleared of wrongdoing, McLaren were given a $100 million fine and were excluded from the 2007 World Championship) or 1975 Spanish Grand Prix (in what turned out to be the last race held under the Franco Dictatorship, the teams were blackmailed to run in unsafe conditions leading to one of the drivers having a rear wing failure, which pitched their car into a spectator enclosure, killing 5 and breaking the driver's leg) but the conspiracy by the Renault team to order Nelson Piquet Jnr to deliberately crash takes some beating in terms of infamy

The FIA didn't seem to want to help either. Formula One should be deeply ashamed of itself today, it lost all semblance of common sense here at Indianapolis, pinch me! Did I really see this?!"

Bonds, was a mid 30's homers a year guy, who never tipped 200lbs.. he juiced the shit out of himself, gained.. 50+ lbs..? and lied about it. • I'm surprised John Spano buying the New York Islanders wasn't on here. For those who don't know (who are looking this deep in the comments nearly a year after the video was made), he defrauded the NHL and didn't have anywhere near the money to buy the team, let alone run it. He agreed to buy it for 165 million bucks, and when the money was due he kept coming up with excuses not to pay it (leaving off several zeroes on a check). He was actually the owner of the team for a few months before it became clear that it was all a fraud.

    • I would rate the Essendon AFL club's performance-enhancing drug supplement scandal, and instances of rorting of salary caps and draught rules by AFL and NRL clubs, as the worst along with Sandpapergate. The underarm bowling incident was tawdry, unsporting and contrary to the spirit of cricket, but it was within the rules of the ODI tournament in Australia that summer.

    • There was also the infamous "Fine Cotton" ring-in in a Brisbane horse race in 1984. The immediate perpetrators of the scandal were small fry, but some of Australia's leading racing identities had been tipped off about the ring-in and stood to make thousands of dollars of ill-gotten gains as a result of the fake Fine Cotton winning the race. As it happened the people who did the ring-in did a very poor job of disguising the horse that was used to impersonate Fine Cotton, and the racing club stewards noticed the dyes and paints used for this purpose running from the horse's legs after he returned to the mounting yard, disqualified him from winning the race, impounded him, and eventually the truth came out.
