Watching growler jams for the first time. I like it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching this channel and I'm glad you like his too. CUOTO
Tim, yes, your voice overs while you work and your thoughts about why you are doing what you are doing is what makes your content so informative and interesting. “Pail” “Growler Jams” is a great channel as well. You do the same work as he does except you do it at 2 knots and he does it at 130kts . CUOTO.
Thank you very much for your kind words. Very much appreciated. CUOTO
I know that you love the Caribbean, but NOTHING beats cruising the NY harbor area, and you make it a great experience!
Thank you very much Sam. CUOTO
I love the way you describe your thoughts so we understand WHY your doing what your doing. This isnt like the movies where the Captain spinds the big wheel and you "drift" sideways into the berth.
Oh, if only. 😂 Thank you for watching Bob. CUOTO
Good show....When i owned the 35 foot hunter sailboat i had to put lines across the dock slip to stop me...for some reason it would not shift forward to reverse and the bow would slide up on the dock...so i started backing it into the slip and had good control and reverse to forward it would stop much quicker. More wind just had to come in a little quicker...steered really well in reverse when i got the boat moving. Don't worry i will never compete for your job...just hope to have another sailboat some day before i forget that skill. Going reverse to forward i bet the barge stops quicker too. I always got compliments when i came backing it in.
Thank you for watching Randell. Yes. Both propeller blades and hull shape are optimized for forward thrust and backing is secondary. CUOTO
Yep I watch the growler! Great voiceover. 😊
Thank you for watching John. CUOTO
Its clear if you are looking at the satellite map on the other monitor. Which is cool for me since I used to live in Carteret.
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Tim it’s an easy mistake, don’t beat yourself up. James vs Jams. who cares? We are your fans. Embrace!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that. CUOTO
Always enjoy NYC Harbor videos. Thank You.
Thank you for watching Jack. Still more to come. CUOTO
I Piloted her on her maiden cruise over here. A lot of newer ships seem to have the overhangs on the boat deck which make going alongside a bit of a lottery as you can't see the ships side from the bridge wing. CCTV all the way. I can imaging the overhangs make life interesting when putting a barge alongside also. Enjoy the videos.
Thank you for watching. It always seems Like my upper house is going to hit the life rafts. 😂 CUOTO
I live less than a half mile from the lake shore (chicago, lake michigan) and I have been too busy with work to get out there, even for a bike ride much less boating. Watching this video, I can almost smell the shore.
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Tim it’s been some time since I seen you in NY. I just found your channel and find it very informative in my journey to the wheel house myself in the near future. Hopefully your doing well captain and hopefully see you around again in the future. Richard Gaskill
Thank you for watching Richard. I'm sure I'll see you around the harbor. (I'm in NYC at the moment working over). CUOTO
Thanks for the video clip, Capt. a twofor made a great watch while the rain was coming down on use in the slip we are at. CUOTO
Thank you for watching and supporting the channels! I am glad you liked it. Stay dry and safe. CUOTO
weird It came up with my channel name (I am James Hurlbut)
Growler Jams is a cool channel. He won't mind if you call him James as long as you buy him a beer! Great video today.
Seems reasonable. 😂 Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Signature Move! I enjoy watching his videos. Always enjoy yr videos also especially all the info on what you're doing.
Thank you for watching Gregg. CUOTO
Well, G Jams looks interesting too. Thanks
Thank you for watching. His channel and subject matter is really good! CUOTO
I enjoy growler jams. Now you need a signature move.😅
Right!?!?!? 😂 Thank you for watching Kevin. CUOTO
Yea, a new TimBatSea video!
Yea! 😂 Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Wind, tide, light barge....job done. Great commentary Tim.
Thank you very much for watching and supporting the channels Norm! Really appreciate the love! CUOTO
Dog gone it Tim. You always make it look so easy and you don't even have the luxury of a spring line. Really enjoy both channels. Thanks. Chris, temporarily on the beach in Tucson.
Thank you very much for watching Chris. Enjoy your time ashore. CUOTO
Yes I watch his vids.. anto love the voice overs..
Thank you for watching Mike. CUOTO
Fair Winds and Following Seas. CUOTO👍✌
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
You’re 100% right about that video that was untitled, “I backed into a cruise ship”. LOL If I’m not mistaken that’s the one where you hooked me in as a subscriber 👍🏻😂 That was a great video, all of your content is amazing but that on hooked me because I thought NO WAY TIM IS BACKING INTO A CRUISE SHIP, let alone put a scratch on one 😂😂😂 THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT ONE. Ron You eat currents, wind and tides for breakfast, NO PROBLEM! 😂 Maybe a little to much breakfast at times, look at that tummy, ILMAO 😂😂
😂😂😂😂 💯 percent! Thank you so much for watching. CUOTO
👍☑🤣 Been watching "Pail" for a long time too, great channel. Waiting for you to develop your "signature move" Tim
😂😂😂 Going to instal a handle. 😂 Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Thats a keeper, liked it Captain Tim, thanks..
Thank you very much for watching Terry. CUOTO
If I were younger I'd be your AB ANY DAY! Just cause your a really 😎 captain and damn good at your job.if you live streamed24/7 I wouldn't get anything done . Keep up with the awesome content.... Oh and I love your sv paquita channel too!
Hey! Thank you Don! That is very nice of you to say. Thank you for watching. CUOTO
His pilot nickname is "PAIL" I usually smile when he announces a "signature move"
Right?!?!? 😂 I need to work on my signature move. 😂 Thank you for watching. CUOTO
I was right there Aug 27!!! NCL Escape!!
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Signature Move!
😂😂😂😂😂 I need to work on mine. 😂 Thank you for watching Bryan. CUOTO
You need a signature move!
I do!!! 😂 Thank you for watching. CUOTO
I read you 5 by 5, Lima Charlie cap! The classic NJ/NY Harbor videos are my hometown, so I am biased, but I enjoy all the videos you share, and grateful for your generosity! Thank you for letting us have a glimpse into the upper wheelhouse! It would be crowded to get all of us in there! #CUOTO ~__/)__*
Thank you very much for that! I really appreciate it. CUOTO
Another easy docking. Growler Jams is fascinating. Thanks Tim
Thank you for watching William. CUOTO
“Signature move”
😂😂😂 I know! I got to get one of those! Thank you for watching. CUOTO
When I was training for my 200 ton on an offshore supply vessel (OSV) 240 ft in a MX Gulf petroleum field, the captain, also a former 727 pilot would announce "Sterile cockpit" when approaching difficult harbor entrances, complicated maneuvering, etc. Commercial airlines have protocols that all extraneous conversation cease below 10,000 ft
Thank you for watching. I have to admit I've been in a few less than sterile cockpits. 😂 CUOTO
Signature move!
😂😂😂 I know, right? 😂 I need to develop my own. Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Thanks Tim
Thank you for watching CUOTO
Love your videos Tim. My boat is much smaller at 46’ but the same principles apply to slow maneuvering. Your masterful movement of that large boat is something to admire-I’m learning from you all the time. Thanks for being a good guy too. Your videos are mesmerizing!
Thank you very much. I appreciate that. CUOTO
Funny you found GJ. He does a great job and put a positive message for naval aviation. I don’t know if you can do it Tim. Tug life is a bit slower pace. You are doing a good job with your current format. I’d like to see you ride other tugs in different areas like the Mississippi and the 28 barge rafts. Take us through those operators. I don’t know how they do it.
Thank you for watching. Yes, that would be great and if I ever get the opportunity, I will definitely shoot some river towboat work. CUOTO
Growler jam fan😎
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Thank you Tim a pleasure to watch.
Thank you for watching Tony. CUOTO
New to the channel … very interesting content . And I’m also a big Growler Jam(e)s fan too ! Lol
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
Pretty work Tim, miss being up there sometimes doing that work.
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Tim, can you make a video on how you steer that tug and how it’s operated? Love your channel and all of your videos! Thanks for great content!
Thank you very much for watching. I try to do exactly that in every video I make.. CUOTO
Hi, love your videos. I’m probably unique among your viewers in that I spent 2 decades as a software engineer and recently made a transition to clinical mental health counseling. I have long been fasinated to understand what people do and how they live their lives, and why. I love how you narrate what you are thinking as you manuver thousands of pounds of steel to the exact location you want it to be. (this is why, for me at least, I enjoy the NY harbor videos more than the PR videos. “in the notch” seems to require more finesse and skill than “on the wire"). If I ever end up counseling a tug boat captain I’ll have a far better understanding of how they experience life. :)
Thank you for watching Johnathan and thank you for the much needed work you do. Sadly, most of the guys I know that run tugs that also could benefit from counseling, are too proud or scared to do much self reflection or ask for help. Best of luck to you. CUOTO
Love the vids Cap! keep em coming! Really cool to see the "otherside" of towboats and long line towing that i see while on the water fishing over here in Mobile Bay, Alabama
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Great job
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Welp I guess all of us have been watching growler jams too!
Thank you for watching. His content is great. CUOTO
Damn that cruise ship is HUUGE!
Yes sir! Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Hearing you as you were getting ready to leave and mentioning that you "didn't have to check in with VTS yet" (since the current zone starts down at the vents), got me to thinking if you had any thoughts on the potential/in-the-works process of the VTS expanding up to Albany?? Wondering what the view is from someone on the commercial side.
Thank you for watching. If you've seen my VTS video, you'll know I am a big fan. They are great, do great work and really provide needed help. I think it would be great to have VTS coverage all the way to Albany. CUOTO
Another great video...CUOTO.
Thank you for watching James. CUOTO
Hey Tim, Cape Cod checking in here. Love your videos. Been watching Growler Jams for awhile. He has great content as you do also. Keep doing what you do, love it.
Thank you very much Sean. I appreciate that. CUOTO
Great Job!! Boy you sure didn't want to put a scratch in that cruise ship's paint job. Liked that you pointed out the very fine points of current on the buoy and looking close I could see it as well. A little lost on your origin as the docks down that way are numerous. Also thought you were going on the other side of the facility (way over to the left). Wish you could have turned the camera at the start. As in here's Intrepid.
Thank you for watching. Yes, that would have been better. But I was just filling in and only had one camera with me. CUOTO
Great Video Tim,, thanks again
Thank you for watching Brian. CUOTO
You back everything look so easy Tim. Thanks for another enjoyable video
Thank you very much Mike! CUOTO
I've followed Growler for a little bit now and love both your guys content!
Thank you for watching Jeff! CUOTO
Hey Tim! Love the content you provide. Looks like I missed the video where you switched back to the North East.
Thank you for watching. I was just filling in. But I still have more NYC content to come. CUOTO
Thank you! That was a good one👍🏻 Some nice screaming turbos at the end there😄 Just a question (if its not under some kind of company discretion); Those new chart plotter screens look really nice and flexible - are they still standard ECDIS ENC's or do they have other chart solutions more like on the leisure boat plotters? All the best!😃
Thank you for watching and supporting the channels Magnus! Yes, I believe they can do either. Our fleet has been slowly converting to ECDIS systems and going from single to dual stand alone redundancy. CUOTO
Ok,, I know you've explained it before, but tell me again about the hydrodynamics of moving away from that cruise ship, before giving your tug any power. Does that sound right. Something about moving off the cruise ship so as not to be sucked back against the cruise ship.
Thank you for watching Jim. Sometimes you just get lucky and the barge "falls off" on it's own. Other times you have to work it off. (I was lucky that day). CUOTO
What changes occurred to shipping on 911? How did shipping change on 9/11 and what was it difference for you and your crew? Are you going to do a video regarding what was it like as well as what changed for the shipping industry? Sincerely! R.S.V.
Thank you for watching. The industry, like many others, did change after 9/11. But most changes are about security and that wouldn't be right to talk about them. I can tell you that we needed to all get TWIC cards, and all commercial vessels now have to have a security plan and certain people need special security training. Then we get boarded more often and run inspections and drills. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea ??? What does CUTOTO mean? Thank you for answering my question. Sincerely! R.S.V.
great video Tim nicely done great when tide and wwind are your friiends
Don't fight Mother Nature. Thank you for watching Garth. CUOTO
I enjoy Growler Jams, but his Gopro camera angle gives me a neck ache. I've asked if he make the horizon level, but he never responds to the post. Maybe he thinks it looks "arty." Tim, you do a great video job with where and what you have to work with!
I really appreciate that. Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Just like buttah...Is it a union thing that you have to have linemen on the dock?
Thank you for watching. No. Some docks require you to hire line handers in advance. Others allow you to throw your own lines as long as you don't step foot on their dock. CUOTO
Thank you for watching. No. Some docks require you to hire line handers in advance. Others allow you to throw your own lines as long as you don't step foot on their dock. CUOTO
I don't get it why you held 10 degrees left rudder when pulling of the cruise ship. Did you only use the port engine to pull that sweet trick of? Edit: And yeah! Growler Jams is another good channel that I also follow.
You are correct. Thank you for watching. A little port wheel and a right twist. CUOTO
Trying to figure out what Captain Tim's "signature move" is.
Came here to say this! 😂
Captain's signature move - Use the head during shift. Let's see Growler Jams Pail do THAT.
😂😂😂😂😂 10 points! I need to install a handle to grab. CUOTO
😂😂😂😂
Signature Move for Tim…? Most probably Captain Morgan and Parcha! Don’t forget the ice…😀 CUOTO
👍👍👍👊😎
Thank you for watching George. CUOTO
Hi Tim. I cant find any info on your boat specs. can you help and old salt out?
Thank you for watching. The boat in this video was a 3000. That means 3000hp. It's about 95 feet overall with a 12 to 13 foot draft. My regular boat is a 4200 and almost the same but just a little bigger. CUOTO
Great trip Tim. Your skills and experience make it look easy. Well done Sir.👍
Thank you very much for watching John. CUOTO
Am I embarrassed to say I spent 10 minutes cleaning my iPad screen before I realized those specs were on your windshield? Nope…Not at all 😁
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
How many active tugboats operate in the New York area? How many operate in Puerto Rico?
Thank you for watching Marvin. I would guess 200 and 10 respectively. CUOTO
Thank you for watching Marvin. I would guess 200 and 10 respectively. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea Absolutely!
Since I'm new to this channel, some of the words you use to describe movements I don't understand. Can you explain to me what twisting is when turning Thanks.
Welcome! Yes. Right twist = port engine ahead with starboard engine astern. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea Ok. Thanks Got it now.
Does Tim only work fuel barges?
Thank you for watching. Yeah, that's about it. CUOTO
Just curious, but how many of your usual fuel barges does it take to top off a cruise ship? 8:58 I certainly understand trying to maneuver my boat to the dock in Sunday afternoon traffic, while talking to the camera. Editing the videos prior to posting I shudder at some of the things that I say. It's like trying to walk and chew gum at the same time.
Thank you very much for watching and for the kind words. CUOTO
Hey Tim honestly how did you feel the first time you landed a bardge solo
It still feels great even after all these years. Thank you so much for watching Ed. CUOTO
Hi Captain Tim! I used to work with a guy from Hoboken. He called it "the land that GOD forgot". Looks OK to me, and it is right next to Weehawken, which is the place where Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton in a pistol duel in 1804. CUOTO
Thank you very much for watching and supporting the channels Mellissa. Much love! CUOTO
