the Marines didn't even generally get M1 Garand for the most part, they got the Springfield.
IN the early days, yes, but by 1943-44, arms production had caught up to fully replace the 1903 with the Garand as the main battle rifle, with the 1903 mostly getting relegated to a marksman and sniper weapon. The Marines preferred the older longer 1905 bayonet over the shorter 1942 model, as it made fighting in close quarters against the Japanese longer "Arisaka" rifles with the Type 30 sword bayonet a little less daunting.

The thumb getting stuck in the gun thing is called the "garand thumb" its as famous as the garand itself with anyone whos ever had one. Essentially as you push down the 8 shot clip (in this case it is actually called a clip lol) the bolt releases before you can pull your thumb away and it slams shut on it.. super cool to see this in the game
I got my thumb slammed in mine once. never again! now I hold it back with the other had to be sure.

The M1 Garand reload when the clip(Yes it’s actually a clip, not a magazine), still has rounds in the weapon. Call of Duty WWII made the same mistake which I didn’t notice honestly. For reference, to properly reload the firearm, the charging handle must be held back with one hand the whole reload until the new clip is inserted and the weapon is hot, then it can be released. It does not stay locked back as the game portrays, that is unless it is completely empty. The empty reload is pretty realistic so, I’m just being a nit-picky bum. It’s just the reload without being completely empty
