GeoWizard attempts to name all 197 country outlines (harder than it looks)

You've seen me attempt to pinpoint every country on a map, name every US state and identify every world flag. But have you seen me attempt to identify every single country in the world based on it's outline?
I've spent a lot of time looking at atlases and world maps in my time and I'm not afraid to say that I was expecting this one to go better than it did. Something strange happens when you remove a country's neighbours..

Folklands are not consider a country.
btw Guadeloupe is not a country, its a territory of france -🤓
Crimea is a part of Ukraine. Don't use this site. It contains russian propaganda
Hello, 5:39 - at this part map of Ukraine is wrong, it has to have Crimea in it's boundaries.
Why didn't we see Sealand on there? The smallest but also the most interesting country in the world.
"That's Kyrgyzstan, but can I spell it?" Spells it wrong but the website gives it to him anyway. "It's actually not that hard to spell, believe it or not, once you've done it a couple of times."
I'm glad someone else saw this 😂
Comical 🤣🤣
Pure Tom 🙂
At 1:52 he also spells the Philippines wrongly, typing "Phillipines" (double L) but the game still gives it to him anyway. Right after that he goes on to say "these are gonna be quite hard to spell" 🤣
PSA: it's at 6:00
"Ah, Eswatini my nemesis" is the single greatest sentence ever
Just thinking of Vito in Sopranos saying something similar lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's a superb opening line for a book. Comes close to "Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul."
Lol
It almost physically hurt me hearing Tom say "I'm not gonna try Guinea Bissau anymore", trying to figure things out looking at Syria with Guinea Bissau in the cell next to it.
And him continuously spelling it wrong lol
The absolute worst, right behind him asking if Bhutan was Macedonia while Macedonia was in the same line.
Hindsight is 2020 except for the comment section of these kinds of videos, apparently
Tom: I can't even spell Mozambique Also Tom: Spells Mozambique perfectly
Then misspells Guinea-Bissau like ten times.
Also claimed that Kyrgyzstan wasn’t that hard to spell but spells it “Kyrgystan”
I was saying... wheres the z i memorized the z
"That's Argentina. Don't see the Falklands there..." *colonial mic drop* 🤣
LOL I'm from argentina but that made me laugh
hahahaha i think that mightve gone over a lot of peoples heads
Bruh when he said that I did a witch laugh
Not as colonial as it could have been because the falklands were uninhabited until the UK claimed it.
"Don't see the Falklands there" Well duh, this is made by american devs. Would be like asking guys inside Plato's cave if the outside world is real
To me, a person who's terrible with country shapes, this feels like an ink blot test. Like, "what do you see here?" "swordfish?" "no, sorry, that's Cyprus."
"okay, now what about this one?" "it's a dragon!" "oops, wrong again, that's Mozambique."
"here, what's this?" "the skyrim logo." "oooooh, wrong again, it's Israel."
come on thats an easy one its on their flag
@@1x0x yeah, but tom missed kosovo with the state shape literally present on the flag with nothing else
Idk I used to gloss over atlas for hours when I was young and now a lot of these shapes are like printed at the back of my head.
I love how the personalized ads on the right are all lamps and lamp shades, presumably from Tom googeling street lights on the london guess in the previous pin point video hahaha
Lol, nice observation!
beautiful!
Chile's got a straight line mission written all over it, surely?
striaght line.... up and down! >:)
I don't think it's possible. Andes to the east with huge mountains. Deserts in the north for 100 km. The terrain in Chile is wicked. And it's wider than you think.
64 km at its narrowest, but it has mountains
Yes, time for Patagonia
@@Gary_Harlow actually only 15km south of Puelo, but very high mountains - not possible. However, from Lago Puelo to Puelo would be over 70km but possibly entirely in a valley.
After scoring 38/196 = 19%, I can take solace that I got Dominican Republic while you did not. I'll take my small victories where I can.
GGs GW!! Was fun to see where we made the same mistakes and different ones :)
awesome you got mentioned 😊

Tom saying it's not that hard to spell immediately after misspelling Kyrgyzstan at 6:05 >>>>
21:35 Tom - "I'm not gonna do Guinea Bissau anymore, I'm not doing it to myself" *Proceeds to scroll past Guinea Bissau*
You seem too worried with keeping the video short :( Most of us wouldnt mind watching you get all 196, even if it takes an hour or two
Hm, not too sure about that.
I also wanted to see him get all of them. I feel like him having a list of all country names at hand would have made it possible to finish in a reasonable time. Without such a list, it would have dragged out too much.
@@toms169 i think he wouldve gotten atleast 190, given enough time
i think its because of the algorhitm, what ive heard 10-25 min videos do the best
Absolutely, I love long, long-form videos
So happy you got St Kitts & Nevis 😃🇰🇳 we’re such a small Caribbean nation but very popular with tourists (all Caribbean islands are to be honest 😂)
Your country also has a name that sounds like it could be a band name! But obviously nothing compares to the greatest rock & roll band of the 50s: ✨ Saint Vincent and The Grenadines ✨
Its very familiar to people in Britain as it is in the Commonwealth.
I've been to Nevis many times. My favorite Caribbean island to travel to by far!
@@williamsemmer3544 you’ve made my day with this comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed your time there, one of my grandads was from Nevis (the rest of us are from St.Kitts). He passed a few years ago but I have so many lovely memories of playing in his yard on the island.
St Kitts and Nevis is relatively known in the commonwealth because we see you guys at the commonwealth games
the european cities over 100k quiz is also quite fun. Maybe you should play it
He played that a few years ago! Not JetPunk, however. kzhead.info/sun/mrOtltOFg3Z-o5s/bejne.html
He already did it a while back. On Europe and on Asia iirc
No he should go straight for the all 100k cities in the world quiz or the all 10k cities in the USA quiz.
Hey Tom, Have ya heard of Tradle? It's a game where you have to figure out a country by it's export stats. You have 6 guesses and each guess you get 3 helping hints, the distance you are off the country, the direction NESW, and a percentage of accuracy. Should try it out sometime
I used to play these games until I had all of them memorized... it became second nature very quickly... but unless you keep up with it, they're easy to forget.
Same here, kind of sad how they fade away. Now they're just distant memories, like fingerprints on an abandoned handrail :|

Anyone else just spend 20 minutes with a look of dumb amazement on their face as Tom ploughs through a mass of indistiguishable shapes? 😅
“that’s distinctive” like huh?🥴
When you've looked at world maps for the better part of your life, shapes become recognizable. Like a florist would know flowers or leaves by shape
@@TrolledBy absolutely, I used to look at maps to draw every day and they're just stuck in my head. A lot of the times I was screaming at the scream when he couldn't guess it but I just have a good memory for stuff I will never use again like the names of Romanian footballers
@hades the rat can you name any that played in the English top flight? Genuinely interested. 😂
Maybe petrescu? He played in England so I think it might be right.
I can’t be the only one who was bothered by the caps lock🤣
@Shambaga Well caps is used in many engineering applications because of its clarity and unambiguousness. Perhaps Tom was worried about visually impaired viewers Tried my best to save you, Tom ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Awesome to see you shouting out Zigzag. You two are easily my favorite geoguesser KZheadrs, cool to see you two watch each other.
Tom! I think you and Welsh Gregg would be great for that TV show 'Race around the world' you guys would boss it! Would love to see you on it one year. Great vid as always mate
I think this is the only circumstance where the Map Men Squarest Country song is remotely useful lmao I shall forever remember desperately shouting "chicken with a huge badonkadonk," attempting to recall Camaroon's actual name
I've had a song sitting at the back of my mind the whole time I've been watching this and I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. Then I saw your comment and I suddenly realised it was the mapmen squarest country song!
Tom not immediately identifying Chad shows how little familiarity he has with geography memes.
Loved trying alongside you! Thanks for the content
Love the Jetpunk/Sporcle vids Tom, well done lad.
So I guess the lesson of the video is: Tom doesn't know the Baltics 😂. Jokes aside, seeing you guess Pakistan and Armenia for our country was...a struggle. Even more that you guessed the Republic of Korea first but not us despite the distinct DMZ that we both share. For future reference, Kosovo is one of only two places that has their outline on their flag, the other is Cyprus. Though I'm sure Serbia was having a field day at you skipping over them. I think the country that stands out the most is The Gambia because of the fact you can see it surrounds a river and thus it's shaped like an intestine. France controlled what's now Senegal but the UK insisted on keeping their settlements around the Gambia River, so they agreed in principle in 1889.
Love the content Tom! Keep it up - been watching for years and still entertained by these vids haha
love your videos so much tom. you have the right tone, really down to earth (haha) guy, it always puts me in a calm mood. an impressive score!
Serously impressive work there Tom!
You are very hard on yourself! There were like 15 countries I'd never even heard of before. Well done. I've been binging your videos all weekend and it's been fun!
Could we please have a link to the game in the description? I'd like to see how well I can do myself before watching the video 😄 Edit: wow, that was much harder than I thought, I'm decent at naming countries but not by their outline I guess
That was great fun, Tom! Thanks for continuing to try new things.
Good job mate! Really impressive stuff!
Insane that it's enjoyable to watch someone literally name countries. I'm surprised you didn't at least try more island nations like Tuvalu, Marshall Islands and all the other Pacific ones in the little dotty maps.
I managed to say “he’s-back-it’s-Stan” at the same time as Tom 😂 that joke has lived rent free in my head for 20 odd years!
This was really great. Definitely a few I was surprised you didn't get. Maybe you would have if you spent more time on it. Still did better than me! Such a cool video idea.
Yes please do the interesting maps Tom!!! I love your vids

I think it's hard wired in Tom's brain to always write and pronounce it as Guinea-Bassau for some reason
Ukraine without Crimea??? Wtf? Who did that quiz?!
The really strange thing is that Crimea was ever part of Ukraine, given that it was Russian speaking with a mainly Russian population. Crimea was part of Russian SSR until Khrushchev decided to give it to Ukraine at a time when the USSR was never expected to break up and form separate countries based on random boundaries decided upon by Stalin and Khrushchev.
@@dacorum8053still voted to be part of Ukraine at USSR dissolution though
@@christophernicolson5086, True but at the time of the dissolution of the USSR all the former soviet states, bar the Baltic States, agreed to join the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The CIS encouraged cooperation in economic, political and military affairs and had certain powers relating to the coordination of trade, finance, lawmaking, and security, including cross-border crime prevention. Those were the terms on which Crimea voted to remain part of Ukraine at that time. However, since the formation of the CIS, Ukraine moved away from cooperating with the other states, applied to join NATO, left the CIS and had the violent anti Russian revolution in 2014 that, among other things, removed Russian as an official language, so the circumstances in which Crimea voted to stay in Ukraine after the dissolution of the USSR had changed radically and permanently by 2014. I have no doubt that the people of Crimea would now prefer to be part of Russia because of all these changes since they voted to be part of Ukraine in 1990.
Joining CIS wasn't binding and Ukraine never joined. It's pretty defunct now for everyone. It applied to join NATO after being invaded. The only thing that made 2014 violent or a revolution was Yanukovich ordering the firing on civilians and then fleeing. So they were demonstrating, big deal there are demonstrations and marches and protests all the time. My country doesn't have official languages but ofcourse Russia wanted everyone to know and be taught Russian otherwise their propaganda is ineffective. I don't see it as a big deal, still not a reason to start an invasion.
Yes ofcourse Crimea would want to be Russian now because they've got no economy now the cruise ships have stopped. They need the handouts. And everyone who thought differently has fled to Ukraine anyway.
Really enjoyed this!
That reference to the reassuring arm of Luxembourg was a real blast from the past for me.
Loved it when you was stuck on Latvia as it’s my home country, I just wanted to shout it through the screen!!!
I enjoy doing the Seterra world map quiz (I usually play "Place the Labels" and play a custom quiz that includes 236 countries and territories). I think that website has a quiz similar to this one too, but it also has flag quizzes, bodies of water quizes, and many other ones. The site is run by Geoguessr!
Wait, what? Seterra is run by Geoguessr?? I had no idea! I used to play Seterra at school literally 10+ years ago, they taught us countries that way lol.

@@NangDoofer you might call it occupation or whatever you want but Crimea is in fact under Russia control since 2014. Trying to redraw maps in the internet is straight up coping and waste of human energy
@@mw2k6 doesn’t mean anything, this war is ongoing since 2014. Any maps shouldn’t be redrawn until the war is over.
@@NangDoofer there was no war over Crimea. There was civil war in Ukraine against pro-Russian regions (which of course were supported by Russia but there was no direct conflict untill now). Crimea is undoubtedly under Russia control since then and Ukraine never really tried to recap it because there was more tension in Donbass region. This was a fun challenge, I got 151 while brutally brute forcing my wai through most of the islands. And I probably took double the time of Tom. I feel like a fool for missing Ireland and the Netherlands though.😅

I knew you'd be stumped by Cabo Verde! Ten beautiful islands south of the Canaries. An easy flight from Lisbon and well worth a visit. Each island has a distinct character.
Hawaii and Alaska being left out of the US country outline like 👁👄👁. Barby from Geography Now once said that the Comoros looks like a bunch of dinosaur heads, and I can't unsee it. It's a perfect way to remember the country (more like ComoROAR). And the name of the island split between the DR and Haiti is Hispaniola! Find it funny you said how Haiti shared it with DR and then when the DR finally comes up at 13:12, you said "No chance" 😂. A way I like to describe Cuba and the rest of the Caribbean is that Cuba is a giant vacuum that's cleaning up a floor filled with crumbs and dust aka the smaller Caribbean islands. And no, Guadeloupe is not a country. It is an overseas department/region of France! It means it has powers identical to departments in Mainland France! It is also considered an outermost region of the EU, so just like the rest of France, it uses the euro, and any EU citizen can live and work there indefinitely. Though it is NOT part of the Schengen Area due to its overseas status.

Hi Tom, I was thinking maybe you could try doing this but with flags? Thought it could make for some good content! I checked and sporcle has a country flag quiz!
If I took this, even right after watching you, I'd still get an awful score. Geography is probably one of my weakest skills. I'm very impressed you got as many as you did!
wtf Ukraine is without Crimea? 😮
Russia is also shown without Crimea
Took me a while to do but I eventually got all 196. Can't grumble at 144 though, that's very respectable. The last three I got were Belgium, Lebanon and Cambodia, very easy for the shapes to just blur together. Trying to fit the borders together helped, like I got Sudan early, so then for South Sudan just tried to find one with a funny jut up on the right.
You did better than I thought you would! (That's a compliment.)
The only quiz I'm insane at GeoWizard does. You should do more JetPunk quizzes.
To give you an idea how long it takes to do all without Googling: I did all 196 yesterday and it took me about 3 hours and 15 minutes, without googling anything besides how I had to spell 'Comoros'. I kept typing in 'Comores' lol... It was tough, but I wanted to do it as a challenge. The good things is, you can keep typing in until it's correct, of course. What helped me a lot was the funny song 'Nations of the world' by 'The Animaniacs', since I know the lyrics :D
15:10 i assume the reason why the small countries look so "big" here is because they have been massively scaled up in order to fit nicely into that box area, which would be why algeria was scaled down to fit, so they all kinda look the same size just because they've been zoomed in or out very far. which clearly makes this challenge much harder because when scanning the geoguessr map, you are used to seeing these countries be vastly different in size relative to each other
Yeah, duhh
I played worldle for a bit which is similar to this. It was fun. You could even add rotations or blind mode where you only guessed by relative locations to other countries.
Omg the part where you went “hmm I don’t see the falklands” lmfao shots fired 😂
