  • This actually wasn't in the script. Conor just showed up as a background extra and then proceeded to start a brawl, as per usual.

    • He was surprisingly good in that role. But the nature of his character, and the whole thing is more of an homage to the first film than anything else. Very "purposefully b movie" in tone. This movie makes a point to lead you into what looks like a dark moment and forces you into a comedic or light moment. Honestly the whole movie was refreshing. Movies are too gritty these days. they try to be too dark or too hyper realistic (focus on the "try to be" part). My partner and I really had a great time last night watching it. It was just "fun" and it's pretty self aware about that being the goal and focus of that script. This movie felt like a palette cleanser for the last decade of "MUST MAKE ALL ACTION MOVIES BRUTAL" films we've pretty much exclusively exposed to for the last few years.

    • @@jatilq If you were looking for gritty realism, this movie goes out of it's way NOT to be that. This was an homage to the 80's action movie in how it was written. Purposefully light hearted. Go watch The Raid: Redemption if you want gritty realism in fights. That's not what this movie was supposed to be. The movie even has a running joke about how everyone goes to that bar to pick fights. Like someone put something in the water. Judge the movie on what it is, not what it isn't.

  • “There’s something wrong with you” *through an exhausted sounding voice* “Me too.” My favorite part of this movie. The best delivery of dialogue I’ve heard from any mma star who turned to acting. Most mma stars sell a wooden performance on the big screen. Conor was wooden at times in Roadhouse, but that line right there and that delivery tells me he’s got the chops to do more.

    @warhead5225@warhead5225Ай бұрын
    • Just watched it back and you’re absolutely right. I think that moment showed actual depth to his acting ability. Its like he’s on the verge of crying or he’s crying deep inside and you can see the deep pain in his eyes. It reminds me of that sense of helpless anger a person feels when they experience a tragic event and they can’t shake that pain

      @pablobrown6017@pablobrown6017Ай бұрын
    • @@pablobrown6017 I feel he was made for the role. It’s like you can see the anger burning in his eyes. And what makes it truly great is that adrenaline expressed through his voice. His iconic voice really coming into a character of its own here. I could really see him doing other stuff now. Military special forces character. Viking. Irish mobster. Boxing movies. Small villain roles in popular action films like John Wick. Any “right hand to the villain” role. Like James Bond’s Oddjob and his debut here in Roadhouse. Any film franchises that seek larger than life people, like Fast and Furious with the Rock and Jason Momoa. The Expendables and the myriad of action stars. The sky’s the limit for him. I honestly don’t know why he even entertains fighting anymore. Enjoy the health, multi millions, and the family. Acting is where it could solely be for him now. And if Roadhouse is a true success, if more offers for him start coming in, I wouldn’t be surprised if he never fought again or only fought once more at most. Dudes gonna be 36 this year. That’s old in mma. He did it all, but the same can’t be said for his acting career. That could be the future for him. And with him seeming to enjoy his experience on roadhouse, I really believe he’ll transition into acting instead of fighting until the chins gone and the reflexes are too slow. His persona sells on him being a skilled combatant, to lose in that octagon could kill the hype of him starring in that next action movie. Talk that’s no longer walked. I’ve seen Mike Tyson in Ip Man 3. Ronda Rousey in The Expendables 4. GSP in the winter soldier. Conor’s acting right here in this scene is a cut above anything the others portrayed. And ngl, when I saw the trailer for this movie, and that he’d be a secondary antagonist, it automatically made me more hype. It’s the type of role I hoped he’d have, and seeing the director go with it made me have a good feeling even before seeing the film.

      @City.1880@City.1880Ай бұрын
    • @@City.1880 it’s his acting debut. Like I said, I’ve seen many other mma stars try to act. For a first outing, with such a big role, the fact he filled the shoes at all, had moments where I was impressed at all, is very impressive for someone who’s never acted in their life. As far as mma stars acting, I’ve seen way worse and not much better. And for someone who loves mma and has followed Conor’s career, they even payed attention to having him use his real life fighting styles. A POV part where he’s throwing punches at YOU. Things like that makes this movie like Transformers: more than meets the eye. At face value, it’s a cheese fest. But if you like mma, if you like hand to hand combat in movies, if you like movies where you just turn off your brain and smash popcorn, this movie did the job. I wouldn’t say it did the job and then some. It’s not an amazing movie. But I enjoyed it going in with the expectations I had, knowing what the OG roadhouses appeal was. And I like this one better. It does everything better imo. Main character having the ufc background is better. Conor as a secondary antagonist. No backwoods redneck backing tracks to go with every fight, whereas the backing tracks during the fighting in this movie is the literal band in the bar who gets screwed with too at times. These things put this movie above the original for me. It reaches creative heights the original never bothered to.

BUT, I watch to be entertained, I'm not looking for character progression or some social activism, and I give this movie a 9/10 for entertaining. Some good action, few funny scenes in there too.

You can tell from the interviews about the movie that he himself was actually nervous and admitted he was a complete novice when it came to acting. His acting was cringe at times, but Conor has that charisma and aura that still made him such an unforgettable character.
