Hi Everyone! It's been a beautiful spring. We've enjoyed the mild weather so much. The new cocktail gin begonia border is filling in and soon will look full. The Carding Mill rose is in full bloom. The variegated hydrangeas are beginning to form buds, and soon will be full of color. Thank you for stopping by! :)

  • I just found your lovely channel. I watch gardening videos in the morning with my coffee before I head out to do my gardening. What a lovely treat to find such an authentic channel with such a beautiful garden. I love that you focus on being who you are and acknowledging that a garden is a space to learn and grow and find peace during hard times. I think we all fall down that rabbit hole of hiding the garden imperfections but I am slowly learning the the imperfections are just reminders that we are just caretakers and not controllers.

    • Thank you so much for your comment. I am guilty of falling down the rabbit hole. Feeling intimidated by other gardens has the ability to keep me from sharing mine. I too love watching gardening channels in the morning with a cup of coffee. ☕️🌿🌸

  • Wow, your flower beds are gorgeous!! I just love them, I live in Illinois and I know very well about Japanese Beetles!! I had quite a few Douglas Austin Roses, and the beetles came and destroyed them, I finally got rid of the roses, then we cut down a Linden tree in our front yard because it only looked good in May and June, the beetles would come and eat all of the leaves and it would look dead all summer! Seven will kill the beetles but, it will also kill hummingbirds so I didn't want to use that on my flowers. Good Luck, can't wait to see your flowers later this summer!

Your begonias and African daises REALLY grabbed my attention. I'm wondering if you could tell me about how much shade the African daisies get versus sunshine. I've never grown them, but after seeing yours I cannot stop thinking about them!! We live in Zone 9 in Houston, Tx. BTW, I don't think I've ever seen a garden as beautifully manicured as yours! Thank you for this very entertaining and inspiring video! I'm a new subscriber, and can't wait to see how your begonias and dianthus do over the summer. They both are simply gorgeous! Linda. 🩷💜💛💚

    • Hi Linda 👋 Thank you so much for the kind words.😊 The African daisies receive full sun from mid-morning on. They do not disappoint if you have hot summers. Does Texas have humidity? Our heat is dry. Half of the dianthus border receives morning sun and the other half receives afternoon sun. The entire border performs well. The daisies I purchased from a local nursery. The dianthus is from Home Depot. 🌸🌿

    • Hello Gina👋 and welcome.😊 There’s a shop in Modesto that I love going to, it’s Mulberry Lane. It’s located in McHenry Village. My cousin and her family used to live in Oakdale.

    • @@birdhousegarden - yes, I believe it’s still there. Love going in at Christmas time. And great candles. Oakdale is a fun place to shop as well, if you like antiques or quilting.

  • Did you talk about the grass in your front garden bed? It’s beautiful! It looks like Hanakaloa grass(spelling?) I would love to plant those in my garden, but I’m in zone nine with no shade in my garden. And your Olivia Austin look beautiful! I just purchased my mom one for her birthday this past February. Looking forward to see how that does for her over the years. Stunning garden btw… love it!!

    • Yes, it’s Hakonechloa. They perform the best in shade. They’re such a unique plant. Your mom will love the rose bush. 😊

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. As to the dreaded Japanese beetles 😡🤬 they start off as underground grubs. Then the little so and so’s emerge as beetles. They are attracted to light color flowers. They love roses, peonies, clematis, and other light colored flowers. One trick is to set out white buckets with a few inches of water and place them around the flowers and plants that the little buggers are attacked to. Tho I stopped doing this trick because we have little lizards in our gardens and they will climb in to the buckets of water to get the beetles and last year two drowned because they could not get out 🥺

    • Thank you for all that information. It’s so frustrating when the blooms emerge so beautiful, and within a few days they look terrible. I understand regarding the lizards. We have many in our back garden and I don’t want them harmed. 😊

  • I have noticed in my garden, that the a Japanese beetles go after the light coloured roses. I have pink roses too and the beetles are all over them but don’t touch my dark coloured roses. Your garden is beautiful.

    • Thank you.😊 Yes, I’ve been reading about them and they are attracted to the light pink roses. One of our local nurseries will be hosting a David Austin Rose event and I’m thinking about going. Maybe one of their representatives can give me some advice. 🤞

    • Hello 👋, welcome and thank you.😊 Yes, they are geraniums and they’re planted in the ground. They are very old and need to be trimmed back. Geraniums do well here in our dry/hot heat. We’re filming our backyard garden soon and the geraniums I have in my back garden are very large.

    • Thank you.😊 I’m sorry, I don’t know the variety. I purchased them at Home Depot. They have them every spring in the 3” containers, in a variety of colors. The name on the container just reads dianthus. I hope this helps.🤞
