Among other characters, I played one of the Margaret Thatchers in this major BBC 'celebration' of ten years of her premiership. A lavish musical revue starring a catalogue of British comedy talent including Steve Coogan, John Sessions, John Wells, Ricky Tomlinson, Steve Nallon, Gaye Brown, Chris Barrie and Nicholas Parsons. With music by Howard Goodall it is hard to imagine the BBC making anything quite on this scale and so overtly political today - the section of musicalpastiches covering The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Evita, Starlight Express and My Fair Lady is quite brillliant (even if I say so myself) ;-) #thatcher #margaretthatcher #comedy #satire #classiccomedy #vintagecomedy #funny #musical #tengloriousyears
!!!!!!! I’ve been looking for this special for ages
so glad I've been able to post it
Absolutely brilliant. I don’t remember this one (that doesn’t mean I didn’t see it 😀). More or less a live action Spitting Image, though on BBC. It was fun spotting the different contributors. Nice to see, rather than just hear, Steve Coogan pre Alan Partridge and Ricky Tomlinson pre Royle Family. And Steve Nallon IS Margaret Thatcher.
It really is a bit of a comedy time capsule 😀
Odd seeing old Knickerless Parsons surrounded by younger comics. I'm so used to him from The Benny Hill Show.
ha ha yes - he also turned up in an episode of Who Dares Wins 😄
@@julia_hills Oooh, I've gotta find that now! Thanks for uploading all of these. I wasn't born at the time (not til 1996) and some of these would've never aired in NZ (well 2.4 Children did) so it's great to discover 'new' comedy.
The last song is ridiculously catchy…
isn't it though?! That's Howard Goodall who wrote the Red Dwarf theme tune and 2point4 children theme tune AND the musical I was in where I met my husband 'The Hired Man'!
Moral Truth Television? Who'd have dreamt that such a ludicrous concept would come true as "Truth Social"?
You mean GB News
Julia. I do not understand how you’ve done SO MUCH, SO BRILLIANTLY - Yet you’re not “up there” with the likes of Olivia Colman, Emma Thompson and Imelda Staunton. That said, if that was the way the business worked, I’d be hosting a primetime Saturday night gameshow 😁😁😁
Aw thanks Greg - so many reasons I think. I never was much of a 'killer' or very ambitious and I was never comfortable schmoozing. I also prioritised raising a young family over a career. I had three children under the age of 6 by 1996 and 2Point4 Children was the ideal job. Three months filming a year from 1991 - 1999 and the rest of the time being a mum. It think really is very difficult to do both. Imelda and Emma had one child (Emma adopted a 16 year old later in life) but that's probably the limit if you want to really make a go of it in this business - meanwhile I await your Saturday night light entertainment breakthrough with bated breath 😶
If “bating” your breath involves holding it, please please… Don’t do it! Nah. It’s never gonna happen. Not now. All said, this isn’t about me. It’s about you - And you’re amazing! Always have been!!! X
@@greggles2412 thank you - that's really kind of you to say
Ten glorious years, especially for those whom got rich overnight by setting-up production companies. How many were set-up by the very same left leaning types that despised her and what She stood for? The ending of restrictive practices, the closed shop mentality, job creation and many more free market spin-off’s This is a self writing irony that eclipses this show.
