Anne teaches Cotton Mathers a lesson on hypocrisy.
"Yes...of course. That is what we women are to you. A good woman is half doll, half angel, and a bad woman is but a hideous fiend. Well I will not be your angel doll a second longer even if I could. I would rather be a fiend, a great fiend! You shameless hypocrite. You, who persecuted and executed so many innocents. You, who murdered your own father. You, who say the worst sin of all is a lie, and your entire life is a lie! Every time you climb the pulpit after a night of drunken debauchery, you lie to everyone! Or is lying merely another privilege reserved for men?"

Anne was such a good surprise. A royal witch princess from the most noble family of witches. I wish they could have explored that soooonner...
Tituba truly taught them ALL of the magic they knew.I adore the show but tell the truth on Titubas Arawak magic!
I love this scene it was the best surprising turnpoint in the series. I wasn’t expecting her to become the evil villain, but she was right he is a hypocrite
No more than Anne herself
She became corrupted by the magic like the rest of the witches
@@cee4049 but she wasnt wrong in what she was saying
He is so completely a hypocrite.....when he saw Gloriana in the brothel he made no time to start kissing her and he even pulled her into the next room to kiss more and have sex....even if anne had not done all the terrible things she did I bet he would have cheated on anne because cotton is a hypocrite and a piece of shit, he deserves no one's love
@@yam2111956 I'm only on the ending of s2 but if you use magic to force someone to love you them cheating on you is 100% justified considering you forced them into a relationship they didn't want and lied about your whole life while also keep in mind SACRAFICED A CHILD TO RESURRECT THE DEVIL 😂. You cant command someone's love and they have to love you
Anne was smarter than all of them. She didn't make unnecessary enemies, freed enemies that might have caused problems later and killed those she knew she couldn't predict.
She was smart for sure
It's so funny how people are bashing Anne like Mary Sibley didn't turn her into the person she is. Anne did some fucked up shit but Mary put spells on Anne and damn near strangled that girl to death with that doll Magick she used. Anne became a bad ass Witch that could manipulate time and actually saved Mary Sibley from her mother. Mary was going around getting innocent people killed and talking to Tituba like she didn't have any respect for her. If I was Tituba I would've left Mary Sibley to fend for herself. Anne did some fucked up shit but not as fucked up as most of the Magick users in the show. She was a damn saint compared to the rest of those Witches
Anne Hale is one of the best downward spirals on tv.
And she is ugly as hell

@@tcjohnson5764 she’s literally gorgeous. You are probably an ugly man so I’ll let this pass
She upward spiralled for me 🥰

This show was so good, I really wish another network or streamer had picked it up and kept it going. Things would have been very interesting after Anne turned out to be the biggest villain of them all
Behold. The next Supreme! ;)

@@churchyardblood2081 yass girl yasss :)
The acting here is amazing.
It was at that moment, that true malice seeped into her heart. And because the Hypocrit himself refused to hear her as he refused to hear her the first time, and so she finally snapped.
Amie's Craft yes. As we are women we are to be good? Bad? Evil? No we are love with a thin line and for us we hold up and up and up and they think we are weak. Don’t take love or kindness as weakness for we are human not beast.
Better to go “evil” in a situation like this, it’s the stronger choice.
One of the best monologues on this show.I believe Anne really was trying her best to be a good wife to this hypocritical a-hole.This scene pinpointed exactly where she realized how impossible it was to live up to his ridiculous idea of the kind of partner Cotton desired. He himself was so completely flawed, yet demanded unattainable perfection from Anne as a wife.He got exactly what he deserved.
also i thought it was sad when Anne saved his life many times and he said he didn't love anne only his child inside her...he gave her false hope that they'd be happy together..she was 100% loyal to him and he didn't return it
@@kimmyfreak200 bruh...this bitch spelled cotton into loving her, locked him in her parent's secret room, fed brown jenkins to him and the cherry on top she stole his true love's baby and her memory i think him not caringabout her is 100% justified. cotton imo is my fav character in the entire series and he gets the best girls. yes he's a hypocrite but honestly all the men in this show are because they are kind of a product of their era. having said that i like anne's character because she's a textbook example of live long enough to become a villian
My most favourite scene in the whole show. Half doll half angel or a hideous fiend. Yep
She has a point. Cotton is such a hypocrite LMAO it’s what he deserves
Wish this had a Season 4 to explore her darkness to the fullest
Yesss finally someone said it!
I am disappointed with Anne despite her winning with her endgame. She pushed cotton into this marriage, she had no other choice to survive, but trying to make him love her against his will and calling him a hypocrite for not doing it? It is just pitiful.
For doing what? She was always planned to marry him her parents said so... And yes he is a hypocrite. He takes no responsibility for his actions and everything she said was right
@@dannydark1452 I mean he ended up in hell. Thats taking a fair bit of responsibility
@@MM-hf6om he did it for the pride of his religion and himself not for the people... He's kind of a monster. Lol
I never expected anyone to have a happy ending in this show
@@dreaming_cthulhu didn't Mary sibliy and John Alden end up happy together?
I love her acting. The quick transition is epic
I agree she made terrible choices but she also right in saying he is a hypocrite
She is evil, "terrible choices" is just a way too soft way to articulate her moves
Anne is a remarkabley powerful witch
And that’s when Cotton knew...he fucked up!! Anne was OVER it!! She was high key OVER everybody’s shit!!
Well, honestly, the ominousness of Anne Hale was already foreshadowed during the start of the series. If you re-watch Salem, you will see that the Anne of the last episode of the series was really who Anne was down to her core from the beginning of the show......when Mary had John Alden for dinner (Anne was there) and John imagined both Mary and Anne at his crotch.....when she was sketching at a graveyard, her outspokenness even during the series when her father was alive, when she put on the mask and teleported, when she asked Cotton to examine her body for the mark of the devil and he didn't see her face in time to see her turn snake like, what she discovered plus a sketch of her in her father's book of shadows........ it was all there in our faces, in plain sight.
💯
I love when they do stuff like that and you can catch it all on the rewatch...Once Anne was a witch I had a feeling she would go dark but never expected her to go as hard as she did!
best scene in the entire series...they stole the show here these 2 fine actors
Honestly what she did to Gloriana made me cry.
What happened to Gloriana ???
@@nonagomez2989 it's pretty fucked she steals the baby from her womb.
Nona Gomez Anne performed a ritual in where she stole her baby from her. Afterwards to kick her while she was already down she essentially gave her magical lobotomy and shipped her back to a brothel.
Very powerful scene ! Saw the entire show four times. Still amazing
honestly with this speech I am 100% behind her
SOOO ICONIC
Kathrine Howard!?
Imagine naming your child cotton haha it’s like funny cute
Vivian Wang it was tha last name of his mother. His father and mother were very importeren people and he was seen as the combinaties of the two. I think its romantic. The last name of a woman was forgotten but not here
It sounds like both a toon name and a girl's name
Actually Cotton Mather is a real person, they have many things in common
His father’s name was Increase
I've only watched season 1... I'm here to see what I missed
Trust me pal you didn't miss much!
That’s dumb watch them in order it’s soo worth it
A lot.
She did everything bc she loved him and wanted him to stay. But he treated her like a toy. She wouldn't have had to put a spell on him if that old man wasn't pining fer her and cotton wasn't such a chicken shit. I loved how this show ended. Finally a show that gets dark!
To be fair, everyone in this series is a shitty hypocrite. Anne was too naive for her own good, and with all the power she had, she didnt have the insight and cleverness to use it well. I didn't like this season, and seeing Anne, who I rather liked, throw away everything to keep some dude who wasnt worthy of her annoyed me. Why not find someone who wasnt at risk of throwing you into the pyre someday because of what you were born as?
I liked that she went evil. I do think she was stupid in the Gloriana situation though. Why keep her around after taking the kid? The smart thing to do would have been to kill her and get her out of the picture completely. It would have been evil, yes. But, she was already on that path so do it right. Then, she screws up by mentioning the fact that Gloriana was pregnant to Cotton. She also could have wiped his memory clean of Gloriana, she had the skills to do it.
She had never received his consent in the first place. She has no rights to seek cotton's love - it was just her spell, nothing else. He not a chicken, he was doubting, which is his legal and moral right - and she pushed him into this marriage with magic. She had no other choice to survive indeed, but still. Her love does not give her any rights. Imagine a reverse situation - a girl gets raped because she has doubts and afterwards someone says that she was "such a chicken shit". Not right.
Son geniales los dos, maldita sea
I loved Ann, but May was my favorite the whole time.
Best Scene of all!
I'M SO IN ❤ WITH THIS SHOW...JANET MONTGOMERY I 😍 U!!!
i really like anne hale
Didn't she pressure Cotton to get married to avoid having to marry Hawthorne? Cotton never wanted to get married. He played along and then he got the business from Anne for some reason.
+++ I hate it how ladies in the comments in here ignore the fact that anne had never received cotton's consent. He can't be named a cheater, he was pushed into this marriage by force. I very much feel that Anne had no other choice to survive, but she can't really believe that her witchcraft gives her any rights to claim cotton's love.
@@ekaterinaivleva8336 her argument here isn't that Cotton is a cheater but that he is a hypocrite for judging her when he is just as bad. When she was sweet and innocent he could be with her but when she was just like him he couldn't. He is no better. That's all she's saying.
@@olavihekandjo2928 ha, you kinda have a point, but nevertheless they are both "bad" in different things, which are hardly comparable. All I am saying is that since cotton was under a spell that made him marry her - he is eligible to cheat or love someone else, he never promised her the opposite, she just made a zombie out of him. Him not liking the "bad girl" type and anne specifically is irrelevant here. I don't consider personal attraction or repulsion to certain types to be a hypocrisy. What is a hypocrisy though, is the fact that cotton expects females in general to stay good and pure but he is also at the same time a part of the society that makes impossible for such women to survive. The very society that actually pushes Anne into marriage since she has no other real options to simply protect her own safety. That's why I never blamed Anne for actually putting the marriage spell on Cotton in the first place. In a way it just looks like karma got back at him.
@@ekaterinaivleva8336 I'm on on the last episode of season 2 but I don't understand how anne spelling cotton is "karma" for being apart of society 😅 he is a witch hunter he doesn't decided the rules of society. Wasn't he actually going against society view of women? Because he fell in love with gloriana (a women who was deemed unholy)? And showed Mary great respect when everyone else just seen her as a women leeching off her husband George? Just thriving in a bad society doesn't make you part of the problem. The only hypocritical things I see cotton do are judging his religious beliefs (and that's not really evil). The writers are genius because they have Issac say to Mary "everyone has a choice and there isn't any moment in your life where you don't have a choice" and that's present in this show. Anne had the choice to spell cotton regardless of anything else
1:01 "...every atom of love I ever felt is gone"...what would anyone living during the time of the Salem witch trials know of atoms?
Cotton studied at Harvard. Maybe he heard about atomism in natural philosophy classes (this is a pretty ancient theory set forth by Democritus)
So you show your ignorance. The word atom is etymologically derived from the greek language, dating back LONG before the witch trials… It was APPLIED to atoms when finally understood in the very early 19th century, but the term was used as a way of saying something incapable of being separated… So yeah… the sentence perfectly fits. It also makes quite a bit of sense, as he’s stating something about love. He’s basically saying every aspect of my love for you, that can not be cut nor separated, is now separated. It’s sad that people watch TikTok instead of read, yet think they know something…
@@ElectrifyingOneit is. EXACTLY. In fact, the etymology of atom basically is just that which can not be separated. The word atom was applied to the 19th century SCIENTIFIC discovery of atoms, but it meant simply something indivisible, incapable of being separated, far before hand; dating back to Ancient Greece. The OP here is just ignorant.
Omg it’s the girl from the tuders

Movieslurge2 Yes! Tamzin Merchant as well as many in this show deserve a lot of praise for their acting! Glad im not the only one who could see it!
captainbrunch oh definitely, a very talented cast!!!!
i def agree :) Tamzin is perfect in this role
She would have been an amazing Danearys
Kadidia Dayato i agree
Kadidia Dayato-I just recently found out Tamzin was originally cast as Danaerys for the pilot of GOT,yet decided to do Salem instead of going back for reshooting.I agree she was have done well as that character.
IcePrincess751 thats why they said that ^
An even better jean grey
No the show would have tanked , Emilia Clarke was better suited for the role
Im confused why people are defending her character. I onky just started s3 but i already dislike her. She has lied, manipulated, murdered, ect 😂. And people are talking about cotton but not the fact she used witchcraft to make him love her and sacraficed a little boy for power 😅. She put a rat inside his body to eat his insides if he tried running away
At the start she seemed to be one of the only good ones in their messed up town but in the end she turned into yet another cruel witch.
That was a good scene.
So witch do ya'll love best? Sabrina or this show?
Paul Noble II This one, but I love Sabrina in a different way
@@hughnguyen9831 In Sabrina there is too much fantasy , but here everything is more real , no effects .
Salem is more realistic
I like Sabrina, because unlike Mary , so far she never rejects being a witch. Mary goes to run off and live some obscure mortal life with some obscure mortal guy to have brats until she dies of it cause its the 1600s. Sabrina brings hellfire to her enemies. Its a pet peeve of mine that powerful or different characters, as soon as they get any trouble from their otherworldly natures go "I dont wanna be a/n _____ anymore!" give up their powers and live and die mundane. As silly as it is, Harry Potter is a great example of the opposite- most of the trouble and woe of his life is from the fact that he is a wizard from a magical world but never, ever, once does he want to be a Muggle to get away. I love when people can take what they are, whatever it is, and solve the problems that it brings how they are.
@@mysteriouslunar9779 i feel like they did this though to make it seem more realistic and humane, remember she became a witch because she had to get rid of John's baby and after that the elder witches chose her to do the grand rite, she enjoys being a witch until she realizes that Tituba lied and her child lives and has to be the host for the devil, her true desire was to live a boring but normal life as a mother with John
That's literally show how men use to be back then and how sneaky a women can be behind close doors. Sheesh vikings is worse lol.

She is bad.
Super weird watching this as a Mather descendant and knowing this isn’t even accurate. Hollywood is so weird.
be serious, its a show that has a real devil. The puritans were awful
I loved the show, but i couldn't help but being decepointed concerning Anne. She was my favorite character, the only one with mind and a heart that wanted justice and peace. What she became is completely controversive to her values that she used to care, it's like she's not herself anymore,'cause she Suddenly wants things she never thought about(power and being the devil's choice). I think that If she really had to turn differently in this show, then it should have been done differently, in a way that would keep her smart mind so that we don't get decepointed. She should have never send cotten to hell, she should have made him forget everything for exemple, and just kill the devil's enveloppe and her Mother, so that there's no danger, and she will assume her witch nature and her powers, and use them well as she wanted at the begining
yeah i would of preferred her be some kind of good witch instead, because you are right its like she went from one person to another, which didn't feel right
In the end she let tbe darkness in her heart consume her completely, now she will in time in the future she will meet her foul end ☠️
Yeah that’s what made it soo surprising and epic! It’s a dark show how did you think it would end
Disagree with you. Anne is a great example of a character with good qualities burdened with a dark power and doing her best to be good. Only to have external circumstances push her further to the dark side. This moment in this clip is the final straw for Anne so she decides to be the monster cotton has treated her as. The Anne Hale we see in the end as the power hungry devious witch and Cotton being in hell is all the results of his own actions.
@@P3891 but that's what disturbes me, i also think she is the character with the best Principles among the others, and the fact that she is pushed to a darker side isn't a problem, but the fact that she plans on marrying the devil, and therefor carries his child knowing she will kill him, and that She must be aware that nothing good will happen in Salem with the devil on earth, all of this are things that i feel controversive to her initial Principles,it just doesn't seem Logic to me. But i agree that she also uses her power to do good, as she did it by letting Mary free with her lover and by punishing Tituba , that is actually the reasons why i think her behavior is controversive .
