Bruh that game 2 opponents deck was insane. It was quite literally rare bomb tribal and yet it was beaten by an izzet deck. Gotta love magic lol.

Watching your draft videos got me to download Arena, grind up to unlock drafts, and then I went into it... but then I went 0-3 and 1-3. I finished dead last at the irl prerelease I went to for the set, so maybe the set just hates my guts, but I really love the mechanics and watching matches unfold, so maybe I just gotta accept I need more drafting experience. (Just... kinda wish I could draft for free without keeping the cards, but I guess that's what cubes are nice for.)

@@elle2843 Sorry, I meant playing in cubes generally; our local playerbase has three cubes built that they host occasionally at no cost, so it's always a nice drafting experience for everyone involved. They're definitely not free for the ones creating them lol

28:55 You had enough mana to give the flashback to your bounce and bounce your own slickshot lockpicker to play it again and take only after the thunder salvo which would then have made 6 and thus killed the calamity. Quite happy to have seen this play :)

Fblthp plus the Grizzly that makes plotting cost 2 less was my first deck in this format. With bombs ofc but that combo does so much work
There are really cool combos with Calamity. I had it with the Outlaw Stitcher, where I went: plot, plot the stitcher, turn 6 play calamity, play first plot, play stitcher, saddle sticher attack and make 3 6/6 zombies

Great example of why I hate that spell unreasonably haha, having it rot in your hand is like the worst feeling I’ve had this set
I played izzet double spell only twice on arena but trophied both times. Razzle dazzler absolut mvp in that deck
Fblthp seems terrible to me, a 3 mana 1/1 is obviously abysmal starting stats (even with ward), you only get a card 50% of the time, and even then you have to play that card immediately, and you dont even get the card that turn... Reminds me of Assemble The Players from MKM.
The counter sniffing abilities are usually on point...not today. I was screaming: "Dont do it...run out the Fblthp" RIP
All izzet decks I've had going more than 4 wins have had two or more pulverizers, and at this point I don't think it's a coincidence. Card does a lot of work stabilizing and killing through board stalls
In the game against Melissa you could've instead went for plotted Pulverizer into Slick Sequence the Vault Plunderer and then play the Razzle-Dazzler as a chump blocker. That way that would've required the opponent to have a crime on hand next turn.
I think it’s wrong to think of this as a two color format. Supplementing izzet double spell with good black removal actually makes it viable against the big green decks.
izzet just cannot really deal with the big beefy green creatures in this set. you have such crappy removal spells and they cast a bunch of 5+ power creatures that gain them life, have ward, or draw a card when they're targeted. and the worst of it is snakeskin veil being a trick that is virtually impossible to play around cause they just have to keep up 1 mana to completely blow you out. fizzles your removal and makes their creature even bigger. luckily I really enjoy drafting base green decks (especially multicolor/soup), but gotta be sad times for all the U/R enjoyers.

The lands are the problem with Fblthp in limited. 40 card limited has the highest percentage of lands of any format, which makes Fblthp most likely to be a dud. It'd be much better in Commander, I'd guess, especially in a deck with a lot of mana rocks over straight land ramp (basically not Simic).
I mean.... THat still puts it at a 50% chance to basically draw a card which is really good sometimes multiple cards
Calamity is so busted. Combined with any etb creature with some size to it is almost an auto-win.
Right? Yet draft tier sites like draftism have it at like rank 180, or B tier which baffles me

In the second game wouldn't it be better to just chump block that calamity and not trade so you got 5 more damage on the board. Him having 9 lives you had lethal,?
Feels like you drafted a nice synergistic UR deck, but this format just doesn’t care.
Izzet double spells being one of the weakest archetypes this format must be torture for Kenji
I lost to someone who played izzet double spell... had all the rares and uncommon for the archetype. Their deck looked constructed.. because it was so open. They crushed me!
2 game. Bomb into into bomb into bomb. He can’t possibly have any more bombs. Proceeds to play another bomb into bomb and you won with Izzet !!
Lockpicker has been consistently underwhelming for me
