I'd just like to mention how my *whole* family believed all this nonsense, along with pretty much most of their acquaintances and how despite my best efforts, without access to The Internet, while growing-up, I eventually started to believe I was in the wrong for thinking they are all foolish and it drove me insane. *This* , among other things led to some serious mental issues, later on in adulthood, most of which have now been resolved, thankfully. Recently learned there's a fancy word for this: "gaslighting". Just want to give you a heartfelt *thank you!* for making these videos which will help prevent similar consequences for other young people. As for KZhead removing the Dislike button, a reminder that: 'causing harm to others with little or no personal benefit' is the modern definition of *an act of stupidity* .

There is no "hive mind", as convenient of a straw man as that would be for dowsers and whatever persecution complex they suffer from. The far simpler reality is that a lot of people understand that a phenomenon only supported by anecdotal evidence, with not a single controlled study in support of it and many, many pieces of evidence against it, is at best not worth their time and at worst a blatant lie. It's equivalent to saying that smoking tobacco extends one's life because their aunt smoked every day of her life and she lived to be 90 - ignoring the 480,000+ people a year in the US alone who die from smoking-related ailments and decades of evidence to the contrary. Anecdotes. Aren't. Evidence. I don't believe in dowsing not because I am "unable to explain it" (I can, it's ideomotor response, confirmation bias, and perhaps conscious or subconscious expertise), I don't believe in dowsing because there's no evidence to support it. It's not our personal lack of ability to explain - it's that the explanation dowsers want DOES NOT EXIST. Believing things that have no explanation is not and should not ever be the default. If a rigorous explanation for dowsing arises - one that doesn't crumble under the tiniest bit of serious scrutiny, supported by well-documented, well-controlled experiments of sufficient scale - I will have no choice but to and no issue with changing my mind. • I don't understand the science behind it at all but I have seen it done with my own eyes by a plumber looking for a water main in an old private subdivision with no plans on record(archive containing them burned down years before) - 3 people looking for it with 2 having involvement in the original construction 30+ years before and those 2 were totally wrong while the plumber with the divining rods nailed the exact location in like 5 minutes. Almost thought he was wrong because the line was 3 feet deeper than usual but he told them to keep digging and sure enough it was right there. He himself did say it never works on standing water or small pipes but for finding high pressure water mains it's always worked for him, maybe something to do with static energy from friction of the water moving against the pipes creates a form of telluric current in the ground? But then from what I understand usually there is a layer of slow/non-moving water around the walls of the pipe so not sure how that would work... Don't know but it sure didn't seem like luck, it was a huge area it could have been in and he nailed it. I don't believe in magic but then someone once said that magic is just science we haven't found an explanation for yet so... maybe the lab experiments are too "sterile" to recreate real world conditions to properly test it? I've never personally seen an actual real world test, always done with simulated lab set-ups. Could be wrong though, doubt I've seen every piece of research on it. Definitely seen lots of hokum when it comes to such things too though, maybe he did just get extremely lucky with guessing.

    • @@jongrey1916 yeh I haven't got a clue how maybe only works on metal pipework. Maybe it's something to do with metal deposits in water. Maybe it's a mystery and we will never know.

      @HA05GER@HA05GER3 ай бұрын
    • @@HA05GER - Yeah, the pipe/main he was looking for was an old metal alloy not the plastic ones today so that could have something to do with it - possibly even the water had nothing to do with it at all as the pipe could have conducted natural telluric currents or even if there was charge differential over it's length it could have generated it's own very weak currents. Come to think of it the guy that excavated the property they were trying to tie in to the main did note there were like 3 different types of soil in that area and they could have different charge characteristics so that could be possible, though I doubt such weak currents could have any real effect. Mehdi noted the person holding the rods would ground them and thus it shouldn't work based on any EM principles for that reason alone but mr. plumber was wearing his CSA approved work boots with non-conductive soles to protect from electrocution so it's possible he wasn't actually grounded maybe? Not sure that would matter, I'm not an electrical engineer. I've seen several "demonstrations" of divining rods that failed miserably and that was the only time I've seen it seemingly work so assuming it wasn't just pure dumb luck there must have been some specific conditions in that instance that allowed it to work. I still believe the vast majority of people trying to make money or get attention for it are just scammers though. If there is an explanation it has to fit the existing scientific knowledge of how it couldn't work and not just be some mystical hocus-pocus.

      @jongrey1916@jongrey19163 ай бұрын
    • @@jongrey1916 I think there is alot to consider. Let's say the pipe reacting with the soil and essentially creating a battery however voltage would be low so even someone holding in barefoot I can't see that grounding out as it would never overcome the resistance. Ground only applies aswell in grid situations so if it isn't grid tied then no ground path for a battery maybe the pipe being in the ground would come into that I don't really know. Maybe the pipe could be essentially acting as an easier route to ground so compared to the rest of the area around the pipe more grounded energy is directed through it causing a slight magnetic field in any of these cases and causing the rods to direct towards the pipe. Nowadays far easier methods exist but I have no reason to believe these don't work. I just can't see how someone could fake the results. Pipe surveys of land do exist but having access to them if they do and they don't tend to be very accurate so at best they give you a rough location but to get bang on I don't think you can cheat that.
