That line where Lex says “If God is all powerful, he cannot be all good. If he is all good, then he cannot be all powerful” such a fascinating line of how Lex often feels inferior to this God of an alien like he often does in the comics and other media. Lex is a self made man whether it be the evil business man in the 80s/90s version to the Tech Tycoon version he is in the modern era of comics.
It’s insane how terrifying Henry cavill can be when hes Superman and then how unassuming and gentle he can be a Clark Kent. Truly perfect casting
Watch Reeve as Superman and Clark Kent. Reeve based his Clark Kent on Cary Grant and his Superman he wanted to make human
Dan Castro well that Superman and Clark Kent felt the same. Except one can’t even stand straight and the other is strong. This one you can clearly see the difference. And unlike any other Superman movies, they did something new that’s already done in the comics. Make Superman a lot darker and more powerful because doing the same nice guy Superman saving cats out of trees is shown a thousand times and it’s cliche. And we already have comedy movies from mcu. Yeah but he acts exactly like joker
I don't know if my assessment is correct, but I seem to see that Luthor literally trembles in fear in front of Superman, but he manages to maintain TOTAL control of the situation. "And now God bends to my will"
Yeah it’s so interesting how Superman starts higher than lex then begins to be on his knees after hearing about Martha then lex luthor flies off in his helicopter higher than he was before.
Naw its the opposite for me. What makes lex such a powerful character to me is his lack of awarenes.. he's so ignorantly full of himself and thinks based of his intelligence that he is a higher being himself.. that he thinks he can go toe to toe with a godlike man. (Superman) I saw no fear in this lex. And I love it. The scene where Clark yells WHERE IS SHE with his red laser eyes and lex just laughs it off.. You can interpret as lex being scared but I see as him taunting superman and getting a rise out of him and lex gets off on that. This whole scene is lex toying with superman. No fear. Sheesh
2:13 Look at his eyes. So dilated. He's either scared as fuck or tripping balls
To me it looks more like he is excited. Hes got too big ego to fear Superman.
Lex exposed Superman to a weakness far worse than kryptonite. He discovered the best way to hurt Superman is to threaten and hurt those he cares for. Like General Zod in Superman 2 ala the Reeve films says to Ursa "This Superman is nothing of the kind. I discovered his weakness. He cares he actually cares for these Earth people." Ursa asks "Like pets?" Zod replies "I suppose so." and after when Superman flew away after realizing he can't fight Zod, Non and Ursa anymore without risking Metropolis be destroyed Ursa says "Why not increase his handicap. Since he cares so much for these Earth people. Let us take his favorite!" and by favorite Ursa meant Lois
I just love the way Luthor says "I DON'T KNOW!" at 2:38 and the noise he makes at 2:40😂
Love the way his laser eyes intensify as his finger approaches him

@@jimmy2k4o Lara Lor-Van, so they got the name right.
It's so easy. Based on his abusive relationship with his father, Lex understood that powerful beings aren't always good. When it comes to Superman, he hates the idea of having a godlike figure acting as jury on what's good and bad, as that leaves mankind with no choice but to helplessly submit since they don't have a means to stop him. That was the message he wanted to convey with the framings ("God is tribal, god takes sides"), and that feeeling of powerlessness is what he used to fuel Batman's anger. With this philosophy, he portrays himself to the public as a philantropist, but in reality he's just a power-hungry maniac that wants to vent his resentment at Superman since he represents the godlike ideals he grew to hate.
Yep, he's an aggrieved kid who's been driven into misotheism due to his abusive childhood and now wants to prove his ideology to humanity through Superman.

I like when Lex was throwing the pictures at him. We see Superman survive and disregard bullets, but if you pick the right ammo, even a man can bring him to his knees.
Jesse's Lex was definitely a fun but incredibly risky decision Snyder made. I personally think it was really interesting and philosophical turn here. He is just as conniving as any other version of Lex, but guided by different urges and with different presentation. I love it, its the biggest comic book deviation Snyder has ever done, and i personally like it
It's a masterpiece. A serious movie with a Lord of The Rings Style. And the references about art and legendary movies such as excalibur ALONGSIDE with this magnificent soundtrack? Just amazing
It's not that much of deviation. Only the context is different
And what’s interesting is it was only the beginning. The character development within the Snyder verse wasn’t halfway finished
Dude same! I really dug this interpretation of the character. I see so many just jump to the “oh he acts crazy so he should be joker” like ok that’s the most surface level understanding of who Joker is as a character but whatever. The calm calculated Lex Luthor from comics and other medium is great and I hope to one day see it again but the script for this film clearly calls for something different. This is a character unhinged by past childhood trauma, desperately seeking power and wishes to dominate anyone who poses a threat to his power. Superman to him represents the messianic figure that never saved him from his abuse. It’s pretty mature stuff for a comic book movie and a pretty interesting take on the character. I could maybe agree he’s overacting a bit but I feel the acting choices were justified.
I'm so glad to see all the people in here that appreciate Jesse's Lex as much as I do.
When superman says "she's safe on the ground" he actually looks down to check (because he can probably see through the helipad/building) if lois is there at around 1:59
He could also go at sound speed and see by Xray in city, where his mother was. But then movie would have ended.
The guy wouldve fried martha, but yes
@@pritam9645 Lex told him if he flew away she'd die. So I imagine that he'd have lookouts throughout the city to report if Superman was searching instead of heading to Gotham. That, or he'd secretly rig the location with X-ray detectors and a bomb.
I’m pretty sure it’s just acting, just him looking lex up and down
@@pritam9645 Superman actually tried to find her. He flew up to space and tried to listen to everything happening on earth to find his mother but he also started to hear other crimes and horrible things happening in Gotham and other cities. So in order to find his mom, he'll have to ignore other people's issues. So he stopped listening and flew to Batman for help. Unfortunately this scene got cutted out.
1:13 “because you, my friend, have a date, hm!”
Lex Luthor making Superman kneel without using kryptonite 😬
This is great acting by both especially by Jesse. Underrated indeed

It's cringy tbh

@@areebhussain4856 No it's not i like this one out of all the others
Nice detail at 2:37, when he uses his Heat Vision in MoS only his pupils glow, but the angrier he gets in this scene the more his eyes glow, just like Zod's.
Nah when his pupils glow is just the beginning stage of heat vision, basically when it’s like that it’s charging up, and when his whole eyes where glowing that means that his heat vision is ready to be used,
She's safe on the ground, how about you? The way he delivered that line with that disgusted and bit sadistic look on his face, that my friends was a glimpse of injustice superman.
The script for this movie was way beyond its time.
It wouldn't have even disliked as much if released on Ultimate Edition. All Snyder movies are ahead of their time sadly.
Way too much... This is art at it's finest. People just aren't prepared to watch anything like this yet
Zach's movies just get better in time. At first, people don't like them. Then, as years pass by, they become a fan.
“If god is all powerful, he cannot be all good... and if he is all good, than he cannot be all powerful”... damn
you have just discover the epicurean dilemma ?
But by whos logic??
Good, very good so tempting ... except you can still see the flaw in it!
@@Uouttooo There is no flaw in it. It's true.
Injustice
0:46 most apt and underrated line in the history of cinema...
Hard fax.
Well duh! The Old Testament is a horror story. Read the entire two testaments, did research extensively about the sky daddy and came to the conclusion that belief in him isn’t necessary.
It’s so true though, and it’s so so deep. Legitimately so deep. So many layers to it.
Henry was built like superman, the face and the personality really goes well with the character. James gunn did not deserve him tbh.
Haters gonna hate, this scene is masterpiece.
The movie is masterpiece, periodt
The whole movie bro
No argument here
Imagine being so childish that a difference of opinion makes you a hater.
@mcm this is Masterpiece, your dead cells can't understand
I love this version of Lex Luthor. His gestures, his mimic, and his voice is unique
Unfortunately this is more riddler behavior than lex behavior
@@bluefiremarkii that is what he should be!
@@bluefiremarkii i mean, this Lex is exactly as the one seen in the superman birthright series, and Riddler is not always depicted as an anergetic as this Lex so in reality this Lex is just as a good Lex as an adaptation can be
He should be more mature, I don’t like how he is more joker like
@@atomicconservativeskunk1094 Joker wouldn't act like a guy with superiority complex And try to look like a filantropous
The sound FX really make this scene hit hard (especially when they're talking in the first 2 minutes 30 secs from 00:00) - so well done.
The way Lex gets excited to throw the polaroids towards Clark so he visualises it may be the last time he may see his mother. I think this Lex Jr & the Joker are brothers from another mother. 😂
I mean Luthor has always been as cruel and sadistic as the Joker. He just usually hides it behind a sophisticated persona. This Lex Luthor sees no reason to hide his cruelty or quirkiness because he can get people to do what he wants regardless.
@@Syryuhe tells superman later "I don't know how to lose."
"...and now God bends to my will." Lex basically gives away his end game and yet people are still wondering what his motivation was?
JM NYC yeah his motivation are pretty vague
He hated god because of the abuse he endured at his father hand that he believes the Lord didn't protect home from. If Batman kills him he's all powerful, but not all good, if Superman kills he's all good, but not all powerful
lightning hood see this is why Zemo in civil war is better because he had a reason to hate and I kinda wish we got flashbacks for both of them so we can understand why.
@@srstriker6420 yeah if I had to choice on whose reason is Better it is zemo, but Lex reason ain't at the realm of possibility
lightning hood who would be Lex's dad? "Bruce Willis"
Jesse is a great actor. He's just miscast or given a poor script. Lex Luther isn't psychotic like the Joker. Lex is after wealth, property, power. He is a wealthy criminal genius
Yes, power. Which is exactly what he achieved. He made the man of steel kneel before him
Accurate or not, I really enjoyed this portrayal.
Hinata Uzumaki uchiha no he not he not by a country mile
I agree with u. Lex Luthor is an evil mastermind, a man after power and knowledge of the unknown. An evil genius.A man who saw himself as the "Savior" of Earth. A man who viewed himself as the Man of Tomorrow. But here they made him look like a psychopathic, sociopathic and sadistic kid with daddy issues. And in Suicide Squad,Joker wasn't done right either. He was more of a crime lord and arms dealer than the King of psychopaths and prince of crime. The only time he did something psychopathic was when he gave Harleen shock therapy, and that was it. And don't even get me started on his tattoos and outfit... If u ask me, The Dark Knight's version of the Joker is THE best. And the Supergirl version of Lex Luthor is awesome!
Read birthright it's pretty accurate
He took never leak your identity to a whole new level
It's 2022, People still find thousands of Easter Eggs from BVS.
Lex: “Clark Joe” Superman: “Who’s joe?” Lex: *smirks* “Clark Joe mama finna get lit up by my goons.”

2:07 I love that corrupted variation of “Goodbye My Son”
Yess!!
My goodness what is that track playing in the background, fits the scene perfectly. Simply brilliant
I love how lex used photograghs to bring a god to his knees.
I will never understand why people didn’t like this version of Lex. He’s absolutely brilliant and all his motives make sense.
Because Lex Luthor is not a cartoon.
I understand, but I guess Zack should have asked Jesse to bring down on his energy. It's a well written character tho
Because he’s a character who’s just all over the place
to much like the joker. like an off brand shit version of heaths joker
I think it's the actor that plays Lex that they don't like, which I agree. Mark strong would have made a better Lex Luthor.
