I mean... Just because a character in a book says something doesn't mean that the book as a whole says something...? This is a novel, and hopefully one doesn't exclusively read novels in which everyone has exactly one's own opinions on absolutely everything... I haven't read this book so maybe it is in fact heavily anti-Johnson to its very core, in which it would indeed be kinda weird (if potentially very noble) of her to recommend it. But just showing this quote is not the gotcha y'all think it is imho.
