THREE SIMPLE Tennis Volley tips that made me world-class!

Not every tip from great tennis coaches has to be super complicated. Sometimes, it's the really basic tips that make a lot more sense depending on how the coach explains them and shows the concept in drills that make sense to that individual tennis player. For me, it was these three things that helped me develop my tennis volleys into a weapon. They're not rocket science! BUT, paired with the right drills and taking into consideration exactly what my volleys needed they made all the difference!

  • Great coaching. I am a 67 year old lady coach in India. I have won 3 ITF trophies. I will use your tips effectively with my young students.By the way, my colony doesn't have a tennis court so I rig up two nets and manage pretty well And do you know how I strengthened my wrist and hand all througj the years? By washing and wringing my family's clothes. Now I wash only my clothes! Also sweeping, mopping my home for the last 12 years has helped strengthen my arms snd wrist.

    • Wouldn’t that get too long for each tip? I could definitely go into way more depth for each point but I feel that would go too long then

  • Great content as always, Meike. I have a question. The position to be a little further back from the net applies more to the singles game, doesn’t it? Or do you recommend the same for doubles? I am hitting with a couples of ladies here but they only play doubles’ matches. I am trying to improve their net game. Danke schön!

  • Thank you for the tips. I am a beginner, very useful for me. I see your racket face will face upward at the end of your volleys (also your right hand wrist faces up a lot on your forehand after your hitting volleys ). So do you do that on purpose, or you just stop the movement at contact point and the racket just naturally moves face up for the comfort of your wrists? I find ending up with racket face upward very not natural for me ( I use both hands to hold the racket for volley as I have weak wrists) Is it a must that I need to work on?

  • Good stuff. Most players don't put in enough volley work. Ive always loved the shot, so it wasn't work for me.
