Here is the method I used to create the folding box in the Vivid Kingdoms video for Ten Hundred!
It uses a template to create geometry which is then parented to an armature for animation.
You can check the wireframe option in the viewport display panel of the package mesh to make the placement of the bones easier.

  • Great tutorial!! I just can't figure out how to make the inner part have a white texture instead of the outer graphic. How could I do that?

    @khuty1@khuty14 ай бұрын
    • You can do that either by switching the texture with the" backfacing" output of the Geometry info node in the shader, or with a different shader and a solidify modifier to create thickness and two different sides, then which you can switch the material for each side with the Material index property of the modifier!

  • Very good tutorial, the only problem and that I see through my card package (as at the beginning) of your video. And I can’t change ... anyone knows how to help me?

    @dreizey@dreizey Жыл бұрын
    • If the problem is only happening in Eevee or in the Material Preview mode, the issue is probably the "Show Backface" option under the Settings tab of the Material Properties. You can access it only when the Render Engine is set to Eevee.

  • the flaps on my top right and top left do not fold down fully, despite the fact my bones are at perfect right angles - any idea why? I can move the bones past 90 degrees, but that still doesnt work as then the flaps look distorted and too short?

    @traderz13@traderz13 Жыл бұрын
    • The most likely issue is a wrong assignation of bone weights, is a flap is driven by two bones, they will fight each other to control its geometry, resulting in distorted and/or short flaps. You can check that it is correct in weight paint mode!

      @alexandre.albisser@alexandre.albisser Жыл бұрын
    • @@alexandre.albisser Thanks, i dont fully understand but i went round painting the non-flap-bone weights to 0. Couldnt get the flap weights to zero on the non-flap-bones without making it zero even on the parts they were meant to control, however those parts still moved anyway, which i dont get. but seems to work!

      @traderz13@traderz13 Жыл бұрын
    • I'm having the exact same problem. My flaps bent horribly, the bone or pivot does not move with the assigned edge of the right and left side faces of the box, rather stays suspended in its original position. It's driving me crazy.

    • When you parent the mesh to the armature with "empty groups" that creates vertex groups (see on the right of the screen) If you look at what I am doing, I am first selecting some vertices on the 3D view, then choosing the vertex group (on the right pannel) to which I want to assign them (the vertex groups has the same names as the bones of the armature), and then clicking on assign to set the weight of the selected vertices to 1 for the vertex group I selected (which is itself linked to the bone of the same name) Basically that's what is called "skinning", you set the control influence of each bone on the mesh using the vertex group. That's a standard rigging practice, for which there are more detailed tutorials Hope that helps!

    • @@alexandre.albisser I found a problem for me... So what I do is: 1) cut the box 2) create armature and pin bones to the boxes edges 3) choose Armature as a parent object After doing step 3 - there are no vericle groups ( Maybe I have to make them first before I assign armature as a parent object?

      @msFiBi@msFiBi10 ай бұрын
    • @@msFiBi you must parent to the armature using Ctrl P, which opens a menu from which you choose the "empty group" option, which creates all the groups

  • I'm currently designing my own pack of cards, it would be great if there was some way I could use your exact animation but with my own deck. Is it possible for you to sell me the file in some way and have me *easily* switch out the image?

    @IPerfectDark@IPerfectDark10 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for asking, unfortunately that's not something I plan to do, I try to make it as accessible as possible with all the tutorials and some free files and systems on my gumroad, but anything beyond that and we will be looking at too many commercials that look too similar.

      @alexandre.albisser@alexandre.albisser10 ай бұрын
    • @@alexandre.albisser Thank you for your response I appreciate it. I'm looking at making a pack of cards for a small livestream community that regularly receives 100-150 viewers daily. I'd like to make a promotional video to advertise the cards. It's a passion project, it's my first time doing anything like this. I'm not that particular about exactly how it looks, almost anything would do. I don't have the experience myself to make a video, I only have limited experience with 3d modelling and none with animation. Do you know of any services or files available that could help me put something together? As I say I'm not in any way targeting the playing card/magician community.. Nobody will even wants the cards if they don't watch the livestream, and even then I imagine not that many will actually want to buy them so it's not expected to be any sort of money maker, just a passion project.
