The title is a bit clickbait, but hear me out. I've seen some reviewers on KZhead who review shoes that are 6 months to a year from being released, reading a spec sheet. Even when they do a review, they never show themselves running in the shoe. As a content creator, at least show the shoe being used. It'll at least add some credibility to your opinions.
Remember that a review is the opinion of just one person, their own experience, that doesn't necessarily translate to everyone. Be wary of reviewers who make a general or blanket statement about a particular model. Everyone's feet are different, so expect different results for different feet.
If you want to learn what to look for or how to evaluate a shoe for yourself, watch the video.

I always get wary when KZheadrs review shoe after shoe after shoe, so quickly. How can they possibly have fully experienced the shoe? It's just pushing the newest iteration of a shoe and getting lots of views. I do remember Seth Demoor once saying, if it was good enough last year, it will be good enough now. I always go for previous models, then buy two or three pairs if they are working well. Also, how can someone who is running a 4 hour marathon possibly have the same experience as the 2:30 marathon runner? Its a completely different running experience and style. Good honest content, thanks for putting this out 👍🙏
Thanks for the support and comment. I agree. It's hard to run that much and test out every shoe. I tried running at least 50 miles before doing a review. I have difficulty getting a run with my job, keeping a house, and 2 new puppies. I don't know how some people can do this as a full-time job. It still can't be easy.
Man, this is what I’ve been waiting to hear! Thank you 👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed it.
very much agree with the part about reviewers not totally understanding the products they review. I can't blame them tbf, shoe brands seem to do everything they can to make you think they sprinkle magic dust on their shoes before leaving the factory. Feels like brands do everything they can to obfuscate what their shoes are designed for, instead of just laying out something like: "The geometry works well to X type of footstrike, and the midsole may not be suitable for Y weight class of runner". I understand it's not in their interest to do this from a business perspective, but it feels anti-consumer and deliberate
I think it comes down to different departments within those companies. The product designers think one way, and the marketing side thinks another. The marketing department will hype the latest technology and try to convince the consumer that their shoe is the best over any other brand. That's just the way it works. As consumers, we need to be able to see through the hype and not get caught up in the latest trend or technology.
Great advice and very practical. I have bought a few pairs of trainer shoes that eventually cold-storage on the shoes shelves because they just don't fit well for me.
Thanks for sharing!
Part of being a person who has a wide foot means often the local stores don’t even have my right size. I have to watch reviews to get an idea for sizing and then order and hope it works.
Yes, that can be a problem. Most stores do carry wides, but not for every model. A good store should be able to order you a wide so you can try it on, and if it doesn't work, they should be able to take it back. We've ordered multiple pairs of shoes for someone, knowing they'll only buy one. That's what good customer service is supposed to be and why we have repeat business.
I think the Run Testers do well covering these points!✨ And perspectives of different runners.
I haven't watched their channel, but I'll give it a look. Different perspectives are always better.
One of the ones that does a great job is the Doctors of Running. They get different perspectives and are also reviewing the shoes from a medical point of view.
Great to know, thanks for the advice 😊
I think there are reputable reviewers out there and they talk about the things you said they should be talking about. I have several of them that are my go to's and just based on experience from some of them if they like the fit and feel I know it'll be good on my feet and some reviewers if they like a shoe I know I won't like it because I know our feet and running styles are different. Some of the ones I watch have multiple testers talking about one shoe and others talk about pairing options or other choices from different brands. Like someone said what this video is talking about applies basically to everything that gets reviewed. I think you could've approached this in a different manner. If you think there are too many reviewers out there that review only the "new hotness" then you can fill the niche of reviewing shoes that are the entry level and budget shoe. You don't see too many doing reviews on those type of running shoes.
There are different ways to approach this topic, I guess. I've just seen some reviewers who don't seem to run in the shoes, or at least don't show themselves running in the shoes and then provide a review. I think most of them are only repeating what other reviewers are saying. I've seen at least one channel review several shoes that are not even released, and he's giving his opinion on whether it's a good or bad shoe. I work for a running store, and sometimes I get a fancy carbon-plated shoe, but most of the time, it's a daily trainer. Either way, I will do my best to provide my thoughts on the fit, feel, and ride and approach it from the average runner, not the elite or front-of-the-pack runner, because I'm not that guy.
so what are your recommendations
If you're going to watch KZhead reviews, you need to evaluate whether the reviewer's ability is similar to yours. If the reviewer is running a sub-3-hour marathon and you're a 4+ hour runner, your experiences will be very different, and so will your shoe choices. If you're just getting started and running for fitness and not racing, your choices and needs will differ from someone racing 5ks competitively. Take the reviews with a grain of salt and focus on things like fit, feel, and ride to steer you towards a few models, and then go into your local running store to try them on yourself and see what the store recommends. It's always good to be informed and educated, so use the reviewers to gain some insight, but you should decide on your needs and what feels best on your feet. Ultimately, you want a shoe that you will want to run in, making it enjoyable (not necessarily easy for you because running isn't easy).
buy brands that let you try them out on the road. or from running warehouse.
A good local store usually has a better return policy than online stores. You'd be surprised what we've taken back (even years later).
i'm surprised you need to make a video on this.. this applies to everything on youtube.. not just shoes..
Yeah, a very accurate statement.
I just stopped listening to shoe reviews. Feet are so unique and the shoe experience is relative.
asics kayano30 is a good example, reviews all talking the hype. reality its a walking shoe and harsh to run in.
I haven't tried the Kayano 30, but it looks like you tried it and have realized it's not right for you.
@@BigPeachRunningCoAtlanta biggest issue I see are runners which do crazy lacing patterns or a runners knot to make the shoe fit. If the upper don’t fit it don’t fit you.
@@stubestrong The runner knot works, and I've used it myself a few times to secure the heel. But you're right; you shouldn't have to do that if the fit is right. However, there are individuals with narrow heels or feet overall. The problem is finding a narrow-size shoe. They're available, but stores don't normally stock them and need to be special ordered from the brand.
Check out Eddbud/The Run Testers/Fordyruns. They review shoes they have to hand and have tested out.
I'll check them out. Thanks!
I checked out the Eddbud Saucony Ride 17 review and couldn't help but notice that the shoe he was holding and that he had supposedly used didn't have a spec of dirt on the outsole. It looked like it had been taken out of the box. Details like that have me questioning their credibility.
@@BigPeachRunningCoAtlanta he mentions on a few of his videos that he always does his best to clean them before recordings start.
He needs to do a video on how he cleans those shoes because they look brand new.
