  • I live in Taiwan. If your kid stays home sick, since classes are mostly setup for online class already, the teacher will turn it on and let you participate. They'll even send the test and papers to be printed by your parents while you are out sick. Some of the students will also use it if going on a family trip. So they don't miss class while just sitting on a train or bus.

  • The fact that they are hooked up to an iv drip and sitting in a classroom like manner is 100% cultural. The drips contain saline and electrolytes if you’re lucky. Having spent 13 years in Beijing and witnessed too many times to remember friends and associates going to hospital with a mild cold to have a drip attached, please believe me when I say, it’s indicative of absolutely nothing other than the strong cultural mystique of the God like healing power of this practice.

    • There was actually an article published a few years ago about this practice in China. They were actually giving IV drips ( some had vitamins aded ) to kids at the parents request thinking it would help boost their test scores. So the kids in these pictures may not be sick at all.

Hell, I was one of the very few who (here in Germany) said after the first case of (it didn't have a name yet) "unknown China-Virus" that we should suspend air-travel with China ASAP, temporarily close the borders to privat travel (not the supply off goods, so trucks and such carrying wares and ships would still be allowed, but no private citizens)...but people looked at me like I was some sort of monster, the very same people who later supportet lockdowns (which I did not! It was already here and those lockdowns in the long run did and are doing more damage! Hell, an entire generation of school-children lost more than a year of their education (they can't truly catch up, so either we simply hand them diplomas or have them repeat a year or two!)....

  • The scariest thing is that many Chinese people from other countries are going on a vacation to there to visit their relatives (as they could not during COVID). So it is very likely that the disease would spread to other countries using tourists as vectors.

  • Am I a conspiracy theorist if I say that I'm starting to find it all a bit strange? It is true that the air quality in large parts of the country is downright poor. The percentage of nitrogen oxide is sky high in large parts and it is known that this poses certain risks. Suspend all travel to the country for the time being. Something like that?

    • The pandemic showed every countries flaws and how our government and people reacted. I say we needed this wake up call to see how flawed everything is and even our politics. Politics in theory shouldn't be involved in medicine but yet it is. Whether your left or right or in-between I wish people would learn from this and calm down and get information from all sources and not from their "circles" .     • Yes, it bothers me how reliant they are on IV drips here in China. They'll use it with the slightest onset of symptoms. Weakens the immune system and they do it to kids here as well. A kid gets the sniffles, they put him/her on an antibiotic IV drip. So wrong and ignorant to do that. @@monejohn9973
