#misterpatina #restoration #viserestoration
I was searching for some new projects, when my friend 'my mechanics' called me and said, that he has an old 'Gressel' Vise for me. So i drove to his shop, took the vise, drank a cold one and drove back to Frankfurt to restore it. This beast was super stuck, i was glad that 'my mechanics' gave me his pressing tool to disassemble this vise. After removing all of the rust off the vise, i gave it a nearly matching colour dark grey. The crank was in a very good condition, so i just sandblasted and cold blued it. The dove was just smoothened, since i didnt want to destroy the fitment. Same thing with the jaws - everything was built to fit, so I just refurbished the fitment. I hope you guys enjoy my work, please consider subscribing :-)

Rusty 'Gressel' Vise | Restoration
Hmm... I'm sorry, I changed my mind about the gift. Could you please send it back to me? 😉
Haha, I’ll bring it back and you get some cold beers! 🍻 thanks man!
Haha, just kidding 😉 good job
Great friendship.
nice game
The great godfather of restoration is here !
True facts about My Mechanics: 1) He, being a machinery whisperer, has a voice no human being can hear - what we heard in the intro is the accurate rendition of his voice if we could hear him. 2) My Mechanics' tears can be used as cold bluing liquid - they are hard to get though. The only occasion to collect them is when My Mechanics realise he left some sharp edges on his work. 3) Even though My Mechanics lives in Switzerland, his house is located on the beach near the ocean. 4) My Mechanics can turn tap water into a powerful degreaser with sheer power of will, but he rarely does it, as he doesn't want to show off.
So what your saying is my mechanic is. Chuck Norris.
My mechanics can close a revolving door
MyMechanics can cold blue aluminum, he just hasn’t had the chance to do it yet.
My Mechanics can UN-make a new one if he so chooses - he just chooses NOT to.
Well Said!! 5) "There can be Only One" and a chosen protege. "A protégé may have two mentors at the same time-as long at those relationships do not conflict or compete with each other. However, a protégé can have no more than two mentors over their lifetime." ~¿@
I love how the my mechanics intro has him carefully taking the sharp edges off something, haha. So true to character.
Haha, yes you could identify him just by watching the first 3 seconds of filing 😄
@@misterpatina the perfection is absolute in my mechanics... Nothing to add! But you’re the closest to him, in my opinion!
Wonderful! It seems to me that My Mechanics and Mr. Patina have a different restoration philosophy: Mr. Patina is for "I want to turn back time and have this object exactly as made by the original manufacturer", while My Mechanics is for "I want this object as the original producer should have made it, if he was professional enough". I admire both of them.
Haha, thats a pretty cool, and very true comment! Thanks Ermanno!
All the friendships on restoration KZhead make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I'm beginning to think that Gressel is the last word in quality vises. Seriously, these vises take severe beatings and still come out looking brand new once restored, even with severe damage. I want a Gressel Vise.
A Wilton Bullet Vice is also a nice choice in vice's.
Nice intro and awesome work bro 😎👍🏻🍻
Haha, thanks man! 🍻
To paint raised lettering quicker and easier, use a piece of cloth, grip it tightly between your fingers so it makes a small round ball, wet it with paint, squeegee the excess and then use the cloth as a stamp. Works marvelously fast and as long as you are careful there is less danger of smearing paint.
Thanks for the hint! 🙂
for oddly shaped areas like on the vise, you can also use an eraser in the same way to apply paint. The benefit is it won't wrap around the raised lettering at all.
Sweet vise! I'm sure My Mechanics will quack his approval.
Haha, thanks Ray!
👍A pleasure to see you at work! 😊😊😊
That's marvelous and the conversation at the beginning was very interesting!
Somedays I forgot I've already liked your videos and try it twice, or three times in a row.
It is always a pleasure to see you bring back to life a neglected and forgotten tool.A very fine job.
Thanks! 🙂
Wolf whistling your vise. Great work man!
"Hammering under pressure"... This sounds like my boss' management style. :)
Haha, didn’t think about that 😄
A gift! A video from Mister Patina. Wonderful restoration, sir.
Haha, thanks, iam glad you enjoyed!
I was expecting it to say “all done! Wonderful project!”after you brushed off the Swiss weed.
Love these crossovers!
Hey Mace, iam glad you like it!
Everything is happy in Switzerland: the people, the cows, and I’m sure your new vise as well - happy vise, happy life! 😉

Definitely my next vise will be Gressel ! I watched restoration by you and My Mechanic, and oh boy even rust can't fight vs Gressel !!! My first love was Swiss Tools PB second is Gressel ! Real quality
Love the subtle humor.
Great collaboration here! I loved the collaboration with Dr. Beer as well! Clever use of reflection and refraction in the video to highlight the Mister Patina logo too!
I like especially the final colour of the vice.
Fantastic Restoration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just first seconds I thought about Gressel of My Mechanics))) I was right! Good cooperation!
Thanks Viktor!

My grandfather was a tool and die maker in his prime. I’m sure if he were alive today to see your posts he’d be beaming with joy at the care you take breathing New life into forgotten tools.
Hey man, thanks for your words! I really appreciate!
Scoutcrafter would be proud of you-he always reminds us to never be stingy with the 50:50!
PLANE ENOUGH? I'm going to level with you. Your command of English puns is pretty good,.
super job wie man von dir schon gewohnt ist.
Great video. The black lettering on gray looks nice.
Hello mister Patina beautiful vise beautiful restoration good job well done
... good one, stay safe and have a great week..
How'd you watch it so quickly?!
@@commentsboardreferee7434 ...i've never watched a bad one...lol..a lot better than just saying ''first''
Haha, thanks Bob! 🙂
When I saw the spindle heading towards the lathe, for some reason I thought there was going to be some "This Old Tony" humour .... :) :)
Needless to say! Amazing and inspiring job! You're beatyful!
Thanks Jan!
Your attention to detail and quality of workmanship measure well even against my mechanics. That is really the highest compliment I can give. Thanks.
Hey Eben, thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate.
I enjoyed this vise restoration more then many others I've seen
Thanks Peter, iam glad you enjoyed!
When the hand filing looks like a fine machine finish... 👌😩 Mama mia, so nice.
You can’t learn being a machine. You’ll be born as one. 😄
I highly recommend getting an angle grinder with a cup wheel to remove most of any rust or scale on old equipment.. such a time saving device
Great work... But had to skip ahead a bit because it's late and I'm sleepy. 😌
Make more films on vintage vises restored they very relaxing to watch very soothing can't wait to see more of them....
Yes. The multiverse of restorations is coming to life
As I've said before, your workmanship is first class and it is a joy watching you restore items that would generally be described as junk
Watching this and reading the comments has given me a cheesy grin on my face and a heart full of the warm fuzzies!! So nice!! And well done!! You guys rock!! 🥰💫
I watch a lot of restoration videos and I love how you, My Mechanics, Dr. Beer and Tysy Tube are so supportive of each other 😍
Thanks!
I thought the Swiss were more famous for their chocolate than their weed. I thought was more of a Jamaican thing 😁. Great restoration comme toujours 😎
NICE WORK !!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks! 🙂
You and My Mechanics are basically same. But you are also funny.
Sandblasting. ..filing...and edge smoothing. All my favorite things to watch. AWESOME job sir!!!
It seems you picked up that vise really early in the morning! You had to get up at the quack of dawn!
Super Nice mr Patina 👍
Thanks!
Otra estupenda restauración de tornillo de banco atascado 'Gressel', respetos desde Venezuela.👍🤜🔥🤛💯👍

I appreciate that Mr. P finds a way to work his humor into these videos without having to say a word
Thanks man, iam glad you’re enjoying my work 🙂
acetone and transmission fluid are also a better penetrating oil than WD-40. Nice to see you use that!
Greetings from St. Petersburg! - II And more. Guys, I recently saw an old fractal vise in a garage. Awesome thing !!! You and my mechanics should definitely get one. No kidding!
💙 the colabs and great restore Mr P.!

Great introduction 🤣 greater job 👍👏 bravo
Didl Maus paintbrush box👍🏻🥰 fits perfect to the vice😂🤣😂🤣
Haha, the one and only 😄
Very nice. Love the color (wait, the not-color? 🤔). And when I saw the close up of the press tool I thought, "I bet MM made that" 😅
Awesssome ,I'm glad that there are still people like that who care about precision and beauty, I thought we were disappearing, I have no words to express my admiration, BRAVO keep up the good work, we are not disappearing! Respect from old BG. p.sss. Please tell me what solutions to use to remove the rust please!!???
This guy must be making Gressel vises
Sweet job! Thanks for providing the object of entertainment today "my mechanics."
Makes me want to go back into machining.
I'm so excited to watch this video!!!
How’d you like it?
@@misterpatina it came out awesome!
Beautiful restoration, great job! It's always a pleasure to see how much love and passion you put in your videos! Thank you for your inspiration bro!
Great job! Don’t forget to bolt it to the workbench.
Thanks man! :-)
Sweet! Nice collaboration!
Thanks Dimitriy!
WUNDERBAR! Fantastic resto on that beautiful Gressel vice. My Mechanics would be proud. Cheers!
Thanks man! 🙂
What a gift! Wonderful job, like always Mr P. ❤️
Hey Bro, thanks a lot! 🙂
I rally appreciate the collaboration and friendship that in restoration top influencer is so strong and real! Great message!
Thanks Anto!
Amazing work, I love repair on old vices
One day someone will drink degreaser thinking it is Mountain Dew - which is almost as bad as drinking Mountain Dew thinking it is the Mountain Dew.
Sir, this is one of my favorite comments ever. Had to laugh hard 🙂
🤣 Unfortunately mountain dew doesn't work as degreaser... So it's some kind of one way street
*takes a sip* I think my Mountain dew expired...
Once again: Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing your passion Mr P
Hammerite mmmmmmmm! Love this restoration. A+!
Iam glad you’re enjoying my work! 🙂
Nice job bro.👌 You sure did beat the devil out of that paintbrush.😂
Haha, thanks jack!
Really cool featuring video! Mr Patina and MyMechanics - my favorite restoration KZheadrs.
Outstanding!
Wonderful restoration. I like that you used the right amount of grease where it was needed. So many restorers don't. I can't imagine what they are going to look like several years from now! Your vice will be humming along just fine! Great job.
Greetings from denmark 🙂🙂
Hey Elena, greets from Frankfurt/Germany! 🙂✌️
Absolutely beautiful.
Thanks Derek, iam glad you enjoyed! 🙂
Nice job, good looking piece, if one calls a vice good looking. 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍😁
Thanks Paul!
Absolutely beautiful!! I don't know how in the world you don't have a million subs by now...keep up the videos and I'll keep watching them! Thanks
Excellent work! I like the hammertone grey, nice finish. Vintage Gressel and Heuer vises might be common for you Europeans, but they are a scarce gem here in Canada.
