    • I used to ask myself how the German citizens allowed a fascist to take over like Hitler did. Being a citizen in the US right now, I don't wonder that anymore. Edit: You people trying to explain what a "dire economic situation" Germany was in at the time are only proving my point. Trump also pointed out many of the problems in the US that people were facing and capitalized on it. His solutions are wrong, but he won people over nonetheless. Would you use the same excuse "you should have seen the economic state of the US at the time Trump was elected, the middle class was really suffering and that's why they voted Trump in" ? There's so much more than this reductionist argument, and my entire point was really trying to point out that fascism doesn't just happen overnight. It happens slowly as the citizens are subject to mass propaganda and cults of personality. Checks and balances are stripped away and power is consolidated among yes-men. The similarities between the rise of trump and the rise of hitler are strikingly similar, except hitler was a great orator, and trump only uses his racism as a tool to sow discord. Regardless, I sure hope the ending changes in this parallel. Vote in 2020 people! No matter what.

He used the Treaty of Versailles (Which was the dumbest thing the allies could've done, every country is to blame for WW1 they all fought for their own selfish reasons: France because they want their territory back that they lost to the Germans a couple decades before, England because they wanted to be the only largest fleet in the world and Germany was expanding their own, Germany because their ally Austro-Hungary declared war to Serbia etc etc.) Hitler used the Economic crissis, the large amount of people who lost their jobs, The idea of being "Backstabbed" by the new gouverment. (Trying to get WW1 veterans on his side) Germany was suffering as a country because of that Treaty and Hitler used it to his adventage. That's why German citizens voted him in

    • @@FloatingOer According the founder, the TikTok running in America is a seperate company, and not beholden to Chinese law. According to the founder..... I read a long article on it...they say the data is never stored in China at all, and ..so on. Obviously this could be a load of shit, I'm not dumb. However, the pending sale to Microsoft kind of proves his point...if it was part of the Chinese company(/ies?) he also runs, how could it be sold like that, as an independent unit...and of course Gates and Co. will be getting all the source code which will be examined with a fine-toothed-comb to be sure, by 1000s of top flight computer scientists and engineers, so any backdoor or whatever would be found. The speed at which that deal came about wouldn't give them time to really clean up the whole codebase and such, i don't think...making me think that maybe it is "seperate" ....and of course young tech billionaires can be pretty naive too, and maybe he actually believes the Chinese government wouldn't twist his arm...

Tiktok is censored by china directly...whilst youtube censors their content in line with China's views to avoid "controversy". Both of these are probably just as bad as each other. Tiktok HAS to censor or else Chinese magicians will make them disappear. You could argue KZhead is worse, because they made the choice to do it.

  • A secular nation: An excellent idea and really the only way I can think of that actually ensures a reasonable measure of religious freedom. Of course, claimed religious beliefs cannot present a true and demonstrable risk to others, nor can they infringe on other's rights to practice the same freedoms or any of their other rights, but beyond that, religion or irreligion can be a personal, community, or cultural component to a healthy mind and a healthy person. An "aggressive" secular nation: Basically dystopia. A different flavor of zealot. A gross violation of human rights. It makes all the same mistakes as a theocracy while claiming to be under some other banner. Past atrocities can be attributed to this mindset and if it doesn't just die and fall away, they will be repeated. There are good religious people. There are good irreligious people. A society should value members on their contributions and their moral character, not on how they arrived at those conclusions.

    • When you look at the evidence for number of people in the concentration camps, they almost all link back to Adrian Zenz or the CHRD regardless of the publication. The method used to count the "millions" of Uyghur's in camps were from interviewing EIGHT people and asking them to estimate how many people were being detained in their town. "CHRD, based in Hong Kong and Washington DC, interviewed dozens of Uyghur people in Xinjiang. Interviewees gave estimates of how many people-ranging from 8% to 20%-were being detained in their towns. It averaged out to 12% and CHRD bumped the percentage down to 10% for a conservative estimate, ultimately giving them 1.1 million Uyghur Muslims imprisoned. qz.com/1599393/how-researchers-estimate-1-million-uyghurs-are-detained-in-xinjiang/ www.nchrd.org/2018/08/china-massive-numbers-of-uyghurs-other-ethnic-minorities-forced-into-re-education-programs/ Meanwhile the eye witness of the horrors in the camp tells a different story whenever she's interviewed. You can search her name Sayragul Sauytbay. In one testimony she said she saw rapes, medical experiments and was beat. www.businessinsider.com/muslim-woman-describes-horrors-of-chinese-concentration-camp-2019-10 In another she said she didn't see any violence directly. www.theglobeandmail.com/world/article-everyone-was-silent-endlessly-mute-former-chinese-re-education/ Regardless, witness testimonies must be taken with a grain of salt, see the Nayirah testimony for example: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nayirah_testimony It's funny how people are skeptical of the media but will believe everything that they hear about China with little to no evidence if it confirms their biases.

Some of us here in America see it all too well where our government puts "sanctions" on a few individuals that have no real affect on the CCP as a whole, and the few times the ethnic cleansing and settler attitude of China is brought up, it's by politicians who don't actually care about the people involved and are only trying to use stories to promote anti-socialist or anti-chinese views to appear strong and principled to their voters. It's especially ironic given that these are the same politicians who own stocks in companies that benefit from working with china, and applaud china's treatment of religious minorities behind closed door, wishing they had the ability to do so right here in America.

The scope of the surveillance state that the Chinese government is building ( Ofc the American surveillance system is pretty bad too but with a robust democratic set-up and free citizenry, the chances of it being abused by the state is considerably lower) has been expanding unabated and doesn't seem to draw the kind of attention that something of that nature would be expected to.

    • @@notinsertnamehere7581 I agree but the difference lies in the fact that the entire world and the American media takes note of state excesses unlike in China where state control and excesses have been extremely normalised and the media is not free to cover such stories. As to Trump, he is momentary. His excesses are going to drive him out if his office and whoever comes up next will not be able to use such force arbitrarily to quell resistance.

  • As someone who lives in China and is actually quite critical of CCP, I totally disagree with how Western media cover Xingjiang. Do you know how pointless it is to say "forced labor and camp"? Lived here forever, never seen or heard a single one. Plus, China has been trying to create job opportunities. Millions and millions of people are willing to work under low pay. I am not saying this is good. But what is the point of forcing labor when you can pay little while people are still grateful for you? I am an ethnic minority in China. I can't speak for all people, of course. But I hate it when Western media keep saying, “Han is killing their own culture.” Local culture is important. But to be part of the country, to develop, so no one starve is more important. I really appreciate how so many people are caring for Chinese people, particularly Xinjiang people. You are very kind! But please, please also watch videos about how local people talk about Xinjiang and how Xingjiang really looks. It may give you a different perspective.
