  • The reason why Thor's first movie had such a majestic introduction and regal representation of Odin, Thor and the magnificence of Asgard is because of Kenneth Branaugh. Amazing Director and accomplished actor in Shakespeare and Drama. He used these elements to tell the story of Thor. Only later did Marvel hijack the film and introduce more levity, useless rock music and all other trappings. In my view, it diluted the character of Thor.

    • Ragnarok is the best Thor movie, but this is a very close second imo. Love and thunder was alright but a lot of lost potential

      @Rekker1@Rekker111 ай бұрын
    • @@Rekker1 I think Ragnarok was fine as a standalone thing, but I also felt almost alone in saying upon watching it back around its release that it ruined most of what Marvel had done in the previous two movies. This was the point, of course. They weren't very popular and a lot of people found them unnecessarily corny, but this is the point in the series where I seriously felt like the MCU was losing its way: Before Ragnarok, the MCU would have tried to salvage what was already there, to make it better, rather than just throwing it all aside and leaving it to rot. Even Banner was given a makeover but retained his core conflicts and personality traits. Changing and reworking things and adapting them to be more serviceable while maintaining a strong amount of internal consistency was always the MCU's strongest point, and the thing which tied it together into a coherent wider narrative. Ragnarok was the first time the writers and director just casually swept aside all of that built-up work, all of those rules, all of that careful worldbuilding and character development in favor of an expedient solution to a difficult but not insurmountable problem. And they started doing it more and more as the series progressed. People might have loved the film, but I believe it was catastrophic for the wider series. It set a dangerous precedent that it followed into ruin.

    • It’s far from a perfect scene but this movie compared to Love and Thunder is Oscar worthy. I really like the redemption arch and the general plot. The acting overall was good but the reactions to what happens in the scene make very little sense. People would react much differently when someone you really care about is about to face a seemingly unstoppable force and then appears to díe in the fight. They wouldn’t just stand there with hardly a reaction. I don’t fault the actors for this, it’s likely the writers and director.

The lightning that strikes him to restart his heart is a well considered added detail as his the good of thunder and lightning is what gives him his powers not the hammer itself. • Back when, thor's character had some depth and was a noble god. Now he's out there "finding himself" for the 6th time in his lifetime. Thor's first 2 films sucked doesn't imply that thor sucked, this thor was much better

    @himathegreat2987@himathegreat2987 Жыл бұрын
    • his character had depth? Man, his character was absolutely bland back then. And interactions between characters become so easy and interesting when some comic relief is included in the script. Can you imagine how this Thor's interactions with guardians would feel like? Also, this would be the first time he really has nowhere to go and needs to find his purpose. Yes, they have been incorporating this concept with him since Ragnarok, but the major focus was never about him discovering himself.

      @hashtable4665@hashtable4665 Жыл бұрын
    • @@hashtable4665 I agree, the first two movies Thor was very bland and serious. Didn’t have any depth. The first Thor felt rushed and the second was just bad. The best moments were the few comedic lines he had. Taika taking on Thor was the best thing marvel could have done.

      @nathansmedley2061@nathansmedley2061 Жыл бұрын
    • No depth? The first film was about him learning humility and valuing the lives of others over his own pride. Plus there was the issue of Loki's struggle with identity, and which made Loki a fan favorite from the onset. The second movie dealt with Thor in conflict with Odin over whether the ends justify the means. Does sacrificing your people to save the rest of the universe remain the moral decision when you're their god and protector? Just because you didn't find depth, that doesn't mean it wasn't there. Now please, tell me how deep Love and Thunder was by comparison. His shoehorned in puppy love obsession with Jane that we've never seen in any movie until this point? His weird arc of becoming a father which had no foreshadowing or precedent in any other movie, let alone that one? His nonexistent reflection on whether Gorr might have been right about Gods being selfish and useless? Oh right, they scrapped that plot point too and instead just had Gorr turn good and save his kid at the last second. (remind you of any other MCU film that just came out?) Let's also not forget the completely illogical cancer plotline that Jane went through. She has cancer, so she finds the hammer to help it. But the hammer actually makes the cancer worse. But by that point she needs to be a hero so she keeps using the hammer and ends up dying when literally all she had to do was never pick up the hammer in the first place and she would have died anyway. Like what was Waititi going for there? She's being noble by dying from the hammer, despite the fact that she had stage IV cancer and would have died anyway? SO DEEP.

    • @@derek96720 Dark world had no depth for Thor. Besides, the Lobe and Thunder plot was okay, especially with Jane getting cancer and wielding Mjolnir, something that lines up with the comic.
