  • The Rory Gilmore reading challenge isn't accurate though, because it's listing everything the whole show referenced that is a book or loosely related to a book. Like Rory never read the Gnostic Gospels! I wish someone would make a list of books you actively see Rory reading in the show.

  • Nothing to do with Jack of course, but this list is nutty. As an avid Gilmore Girls fans, I can attest that it is very inaccurate if it's supposed to be a list of the books we see Rory reading or are told that she has read. A lot of the books on here are actually referenced by other characters (many in scenes that did not include Rory at all) and a lot of the references to these books were explicitly about the film adaptations, not the books. Also a lot of the books she reads and has full conversations about are not even on the list somehow. Just a heads up for anyone who'd like to attempt a Rory Gilmore reading challenge - I'd search for a more accurate list.

    • I have noticed this and wondered about that. Who originally made this list? It's been floating around for years now. Was it possible just a general Gilmore Girls show list and then over time (and through many games of internet telephone) was retitled as a Rory list?

In German that wouldn’t even be be possible. ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarves“ is „Schneewittchen und die sieben Zwerge“ and “Snow White and Rose Red“ is „Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot“. So there is Schneewittchen and Schneeweißchen.

  • Jack I just wanted to drop in and tell you just how much you’ve influenced my reading taste over the past couple of months. In early 2020, I found myself drifting away from my long-time interest in YA dystopia/fantasy. I’d read countless series including HP, Divergent, the hunger games, the maze runner, etc, along with stand alone books in the series, prequels whatnot. But I simply couldn’t bring myself to read something else from that genre anymore, which was very frustrating. And then I found you! You helped me discover a brand new genre and allowed me to fall in love with so many books. Just this month, because of your recommendations, I bought convenience store woman and before the coffee gets cold. Honestly, I’m hooked now! My copies of tales from the cafe and Hamnet just arrived, and I’m looking forward to getting more books that you’ve recommended! You helped me get out of my reading slump and I love you for that, thank you soooo much! All the love!

    • Ah yes my obsession for YA contemporary seemed immortal but apparently it damn well wasn't and I'm thankful. Like...if I really am in the need of some YA shit, I watch kdramas. It's a good genre for beginners though, easy to understand and chilled out sort of enjoyable. Anyways, fr my taste changed sm

    • @@adwita224 exactly! Even in mid 2019, I was so pumped when the hunger games’s prequel was announced, I bought it the day after It came out the following year, in 2020 (on a kindle tho, don’t judge) just to salvage my interest a little bit, but honestly, I still haven’t finished it. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, so much changed in a year lol. I’ve read and bought countless books since then but that one has stayed half-read for a year and a half and I don’t think that’s gonna change anytime soon. But it did help bridge the gap between my tastes now and my “diary of a wimpy kid/other popular elementary/middle school books” phase, which was really just a handful of authors like Jeff Kinney, Jaqueline Wilson, Rachel Renee Russel, Carolyne Keen, you get the idea.

  • what always drives me crazy about these Rory Gilmore reading lists, is that not all the books listed are ones Rory read. There are a lot of movies referenced in Gilmore Girls which just happen to be based on books. I am 100% sure Rory never read Christine by Stephen King but Dean references it when he gives her the car for their 3 month anniversary in season 1. I remember they mentioned watching Lord of the Rings at the movies at the beginning of season 2. Not even Rory has read all these books haha.
