The peace u keep calling a spacer it's not a Install tool it part of the assembly u put the carrier bearing on backwards the big rubber is a bump for the grease cal on the shaft the bounce off of when u up it on the right direction that (spacer) will be pressed on the shaft just like the carrier bearing did it's a locking ring th keep the bearing from working itself lose from the grease sliding yoke bumping it from the truck's ability to flex in motion to not have stress on the driveshaft other wises it would just have a single drive shaft witch would be a horrible design it would break and tear bunch of stuff up hins the reason it is designed with the two peace drive shaft hope this info helps the people that has watched your video to do it the correct way but u did give alot of good info other then the mistakes I pointed out good job
I'm so glad just regular people upload repair videos. god knows GMC isnt going to post a video like this for me. Thanks bro.
Thanks for watching and commenting sir.
Thank you for mentioning the slip yoke position to put it back in. I been looking for a video for it.
Old school I love it changing my center bearing watching videos. This one is by far the best. Thank you sir.
Glad to hear it helped. Thanks for the comment.
I have a 1979 Chevy C30 that needs U-joints and a carrier bearing, and it has pretty much the exact same setup. This is literally the most useful video I can find that applies to a 2-piece driveshaft! Thank you so much for showing us how to do it all, and I'm proud to be a new subscriber!
Glad to hear it helped. Thanks for subbing.
Great video Gordon! Seeing the rust on all of this doesn't make me miss living in Illinois and working on my vehicles.
Yes we do have high humidity and cold winters with a lot of salt on the roads.
Good to see you again, I always learn something watching you. Thanks for sharing
Thanks John. I'm trying to get caught up and get more videos up.
Very informative job! Absolutely nothing you don't need to no , while telling you everything that's important 100% better then most auto videos a true pro right there
Hey Gordon, nice video. Great to hear from you again. Hoping you have a very Happy Thanksgiving. We still have much to be thankful for. God bless my friend!
Thanks Louis. I wish the same for you.
Echoing this comment, great to hear from you sir...
Good job a lot of people pay lots of money when sending to shops great diy video ! Thx
Thanks Brother doin a 02 2500 today. These things are balanced tightly enough I believe that those gouges could be killing carriers now. Effin shaft w bearing and good joints from u pull would be best with that damage considered. We have those yards everywhere with everything in Phx. Thanks again
Thanks for the video, man! I just bought my first car ('99 GMC C1500) and this video is very helpful for the procedure I'm about to do.
You bought a TRUCK ! Not a car. Should've just said you bought a vehicle. Dammit, man.
Good to see you making vids again Gordon
Thanks Melvin, I'm still pretty busy with other priorities but hope to be doing more videos before too long.
Do you happen to have the bolt and hardware sizes for the center support carrier? I need them as im getting away from the batwing style with built in studs...
Did you use that ring you used to hammer it in? Mine broke trying to get it in not sure if it’s needed
Thanks for the info definately a refresher
Man you just saved my life!
Also if you wanna get the new bearing on get a pipe and cap that'll slide over the splines and go to town
Good video again good to see you again making videos I have never seen a Drive shaft that bad next video video will help me because on my 200 GMC four-wheel-drive I think I need to replace u joint on my truck and please put it out it will help me and again good to see you or doing ok my friend be safe
Thanks Glenn. The u-joint video is up now.
@@57bagre thanks my friend I been down sick I will Watch it today be safe
Should have mark on shafts orientation of same way to put back together if you didn't do that however love the videos always what to learn a trade.
Very good. I love Real mechanics......
Thanks for sharing
Good to see you Gordon!
Thanks, good to hear from you again.
@@57bagre Enjoyed both videos and the tips!!
Good video!
I used a peace of PVC pipe I just tapped it one time then filped the shaft up and hit the PVC pipe on the concrete floor twice and she was on in perfect flush place
I've changed a bunch of u-joints and never seen any that bad before. wow
He was running on borrowed time!
Nice job!
Thanks for watching.
Great video
Thanks Adam.
👍🏻 Another good video
Thank you sir.
U installed it on backwards dude
i had a 70 chevy that someone used a torch to cut the bearing off and they warped the shaft, they must of had it really hot, i have done them no problem, now i just use an angle grinder and put a good nick in the race, a little hit with an air chisel and they split.
sometimes it's hard to get to the inner race with a grinder, that's why I go for the torch most of the time, also I am pretty comfortable with a torch and welding equipment, more so than most mechanics.
I used a torch to cut of races all the time never cut the shaft
good video but there looks to be way to much backlash in your differential
Do they use salt brine out there?
I don't know just what mixture they use but I think our winters might be colder than where you are so they do throw a lot of stuff out there
Carl is that you. Sound like carl from slingblade
I thought Johnny Cash. Great video.
They didn't even need to use a torch to you didn't have to do all that pounding you could have just put a gear puller on that pulled that damn thing right off
U joints not greased
What a rust bucket. Whole bottom of the truck is rusting away. Northern vehicles don't last very long.
Can’t believe you would work in this POS the jack stands are bout to bust thru the rusted frame 😂 junk it
It's a Chevy. run it til the wheels fall off.
Should have done the seal on the middle before unhooking the shaft
