Any time magnus climbs it looks so unrealistic because he's way too casual about it
Yeah, Magnus and Alex Hannold are prime climbers because not only climbing makes you humble, (maybe they were humble before as well) makes you slow and think while the strength in your muscles don't wear out, take your time and breathe so the oxygen reaches the burning feeling in muscles so you don't feel the burning anymore. So his endurance is insane compared to normal people, and you take your time to think while your muscles are in lock. For us it'd be burning and we'd need to quit, then later gets sore. (also why his muscles aren't nearly as sore.)
Lol he said ye and yep like 100 times

Wow, Magnus is a beast! Obviously. What I find amazing is that he doesn't seem visually special. It just shows functional strength doesn't have to be obvious. His muscle density is probably off the charts.
You need very specific muscles to do this right. Excess weight would only make jumping and hanging more difficult. That's why shorter people are ideal for this sort of activity
@@alpharabbit2353 Sure, I understand. Natural build/frame comes into it too, to some degree. I'm pretty lean, but too bulky. I do work on grip strength as well, but my fingers don't seem like they could ever support my size. I don't think there's much I could do about it, after a certain point.

Part of being a good climber is staying calm and composed during hard situations.
Hey, tons of respect for leaving the pain and unhappiness in on this video; it's super critical for people to see all parts of a hobby or a lifestyle, not just the parts where the person succeeds and has a great time. Hope you're feeling better!
Thanks Andrew!
Yeah, was surprised to see the vulnerability and it’s a good teaching moment for everyone.
climbing and working out, even going extremely hard, should not cause this pain. climbing is a great hobby and this seems overly discouraging. this is NOT NORMAL.
He's making more money through these videos than ANW would ever offer to anyone. So I guess it all works out in the end.
Right, but messing up and doing something wrong is a part of any activity or sport. Spraining your ankle isn't 'normal', but it IS a part of what you should consider a possible part of playing soccer. Overworking isn't normal, but it's not an uncommon mistake, either.

i was laughing at that part as well but then I realized that as he's swinging the pieces probably didn't wobble at all, so in a sense he's right

Listen to difference in the impact sound their feet make when running from 19:20-19:45. Either very flat footed genetically/years of using them as anchors in solid rock, lol or as one would think Magnus spends more time hanging around than working on running technique. Regardless crazy grip strength by far.
You say it like he is lucky but he built his body like that.
I have the same bodytype so these obstacles are relatively easy for us. The secret is the light weight and genetically much stronger arms, fingers and back than you'd need for this weight. And ofc I can eat and work out as much as I want I'll not gain any weight lol.

I love how magnus looks afterwards, not realizing how difficult some of this is supposed to be. He just does it effortlessly lmao
Y'all should do an episode about RECOVERY. DOMS and tendon pain are real barriers for people.
Problem with tendonitis is that it's an overuse of the structure; basically your body saying: ''Hey, you need to slow down a bit so I can heal properly.'' It's a fairly annoying condition since tendons don't really have good blood flow. My advice would be to keep using the tendon, but within your pain borders. Cycling or swimming are great additional exercises to keep the tendon in use. Furthermore you can use frictions to stimulate blood flow or massage the muscle attached to it. Lastly, if the pain allows it, eccentric exercises are very good to train the specific tendon on traction and overall strength. I'd advice visiting your PT for the best advice if it's really bad in Tom's case. I don't understand why he would even try to climb that wall if it already was that bad. Respecting your own boundaries is very important in this case, and with a condition like tendonitis, it's just going to take time to heal properly.
@@bekker5000 what are frictions?
Graham Goldman the different cases of forces between objects that slow one another down creating heat energy. A good demonstration of such is if you rub your hands together quickly you will feel heat gathering after a short amount of time (~5 seconds, varying from person to person)
@@ggoldman43 In this case with frictions I mean 'massaging' the specific tendon so you stimulate the blood-flow. That in turn makes sure the tendon heals faster because you help out the fibroblast cells with the necessary substances they need to repair the tissue in question. I put massaging in apostrophes there because it looks like massaging, but it's not. You're more so triggering the structure within a pain-border, but it isn't exactly pleasant for most, if not all, patients.
Remco Graaf that’s the current state of evidence as well, my man 👌🏽
I just wish John, Tom and Magnus lived in a house together that had rock walls, trampolines and squat-racks everywhere and once a month Harry Squatter came by. And they all raised ducks together.

Glad to hear I'm part of the 5%, very great video! Interesting to see how he handled it!
What a great episode! Feel better Tom! Loving you guys!!
Guys, you should take month off and do rehab stuff with good physio, until inflammation is completely gone. Such prolonged state can lead to tendon tear or even total rupture! I bet it is super expensive in US to operate and you need at least 6-12 months off!! I think you can easily make cool and entertaining videos about rehab in the same time :)
tath I guess for "normal" people, one can say oh yeah take a month off but when you're a high level, your mind and body can't afford to be soft. The people at the top aren't the type of "this hurts, one week off." Consistent smart training is what it takes. The bottom is filled with people that make excuses for themselves. Best of wishes on succeeding in a sport with that mentality
@@NicoGarfias i guess that's why we have amazing athletes and a lot of professional athletes with permanent injuries. Personally i would prefer if they don't destroy their bodies so we don't lose their talent, training muscles is only half the battle when competing in sports.
No kidding the balls out or bust mentality is just ignorant. Sure you can be quote on quote at the top for all of what a year maybe two and then your body completely fails you because you didn't take care of it. Going beyond the point of your body's limits is not something to idolize, because you can still achieve this level of skill without literally killing yourself. Simple science, your body needs time to repair and heal to actually grow and strengthen.
@@ikaross2112 that is true.
@@fenrirunchained6398 look up Kohei Uchimura. He was at the top for over 8 years straight. Consistent and smart training. Not this hurts, I'm out for a month. I guess the person you idolize lives in a basement far away from any harm.
Tendinitis tip: I'm a climber myself and had problems with extreme arm pain for years. For me taping my arm would help a lot, there are special ways of taping for tendinitis which you should try. Try locating the pain, is it on the inside or the outside of your arm. There are great tutorials on KZhead, I recommend trying it. Also, leave the tape on your arm and change it every 5 days, but as a small hint, shave your arms before, otherwise it will hurt. This way I lost all pain in a month, even while still climbing and training on my maximum level. Hopefully you'll recover fast.

Yea. I arm wrestle a lot in school. It feels like all of your veins are collapsed deep inside your elbow. I had the problem during a test and my whole right arm was constantly shaking and I couldn't use it at all to write. Lol
As a rock climber I can understand that arm pain. When you over do it, it can lay you out for days. ICE!
When you get that slight ache in your elbows, it's time to STOP
Yep! Been there, done there…
The worst is when you rest for an hour or two and the pain goes away and you think everything is fine. Then the moment you make any kind of enthusiastic movement and you're back to excruciating pain
Not a rock climber but when I was younger I had that arm pain from other sports. I did not rest and that was the worst thing there was to it. It took like 1-2 months to cure. You should not train, like at all, before the pain has relieved.
