New Range Rover review. Comparing the new Range Rover to my 2021 Range Rover P400e PHEV

The new 2022 Range Rover has finally arrived and in this video I compare the new model to my 2021 Range Rover 400e PHEV.
What are the key differences between the two of them, how have I got on running a PHEV Range Rover and after running 9 Range Rovers over the past 30 years, am I tempted to buy the new one?

Love seeing the pictures of each iteration you owned, Harry! 🚙
KZhead be like I’m 51 years old, young fraudster.
Hi youtube
Gift me ps4 please KZhead. You are billionaire
This is more like it, I’ll watch this instead of the official Launch. Thanks Harry.
No no! No time for sexy time. Not now the configurator is up and running. You may be hot but not a velocity blue p400e 😂
It’s junk

Appreciate the time spent on gathering the info to make this vid harry,. Great viewing, Thank you.
A very impressive machine. I love all the pics showing you driving your Range Rovers across your farm. Putting them to full use.
I could listen to harry talk about range rovers in more detail all day. Can we get a special on an older one sometime?
He did a 2 door and late model hard dash Classic comparison in 2017. I'd like to know what happened to the Classic he had then which he was going to restore.
Yes Please , with genuine views on the pluses and minuses of each iterations .
The yellow one? I think he borrowed it.
Then you should get a job, I haven't got all day to listen to 'arry!!
@@erik.lindberg89 no, I meant his soft dash, which he talked about at the end of this clip.
Such a relief from the modern fussy design language from everyone else... and reintroducing physical buttons! Hallelujah.
Well said. It’s a proper 1999 idea of what a car in 2021 should look like.
Completely agree, nothing wrong with a beautifully crafted brushed aluminium / leather button than all this touch screen rubbish 👍
It looks light years better than a lot of the competition. Should look great in Chelsea and Mayfair.
More and more car manufacturers are hopping into the sleek, clean, and less line design train.
lmao now all I need is space for my vhs player
Harry , I really enjoy you’re reviews. You talk to us as an adult, comprehensive and technical in a manner that is easy understand. Thank you.
Excellent review on the 2022 Range Rover. I’m on my third Range Rover and love them. A series on restoration of your classic Range Rover would be great.
this video has to be one of his best. You can just feel the passion he has for Range Rovers. The history of the V8 in the Range Classic is incredible.
Yes, a great history. I rebuilt my 3.9 V8 to a 4.6 litre in my '93 Classic Vogue SE. Great torque and better fuel economy too!
@Biggest Dongle That's what people who've never owned one love to say.
His videos are more genuine in my opinion since he actually owns most of them lol. Talks from actual owner perspective. Not just a 4 day rental, and a quick pass on a track or a bend, to review a vehicle.
I greet you in the name of the united republic of Tanzania. I am very happy every time I look at the Range Rover. It is very beautiful. I love it very much, but I am unable to own it. make the world beautiful indeed, the region is very good, I love you very much, I wish you good work, good health and good responsibilities, may God be with you always from Tanzania
When you spec the 23" wheels it should automatically change the writing on the back to 'City Rover', just to bring you down off your high horse.
😂😂😂
Or ‘South Downs rover’ prehaps ‘Kent rover’, ‘home county rover’ or ‘m25 rover’ could work quite well
Bigger diameter wheels are better off road than smaller wheels. It’s why my Dakar bikes have 21” front wheels and the Landrover Series One had 15” wheels. It’s low profile tyres that are bad off-road, not big diameter wheels.
@@harrysgarage surely speccing a larger wheel size with the same wheel arch by necessity means you will have a smaller sidewall to your tyre which will drastically reduce off road capability
@@harrysgarage True of course, but you can't have it all and I don't see many aftermarket kits in the future to jack it up and circumvent all the electronics. It might be good at the kind of offroading the original was invented for, your kind of use, but I don't see it getting adopted by overlanders. The 23s might see a bit of dirt road here and there, but it'll crawl more curbs than rocks.
Harry, you are one of the best KZheadrs out there. I always enjoy your content. Keep doing what you're doing!
I’ve commented on many of your videos, all positive. I never tire of your content and the manner in which you put us in your shoes, experiencing the vehicles warts and all. The way I’m going I won’t bother with a TV licence soon, I even enjoy your repeats! Range Rovers…. Legends, a bit like you Harry 👍
Loved this thorough review on the new Range Rover and personal insights on the whole line of Rovers. I never expected to watch all 29 minutes, but at the end I felt that I could’ve watch more. Wonderful video.

This is already better than the official launch. Here we go❤️
Good video and always interesting when LR release a new model. No mention of the DAD rate (Days back At Dealership) per year of ownership.
Thank you so much with informing me with your breadth of knowledge on range rovers. Your video was very entertaining and I learned a lot about the classic models. Thank you.
Great video Harry. Love the rear end on the new RR. Great looking car inside and out. Really hope this car as the reliability and quality to justify the price tag.
Harry - having worked at JLR and on the 322, I love the special glint that you have in your eye when you talk about RR!
Interesting! :) May I ask if durability testing and quality assurance is the top priority at Range Rover and Land Rover, or is it more about adding features or technology without necessarily guaranteeing these new features will "just work"?
@Biggest Dongle so obviously it’s the workforce! Don’t you think it might be something other?
@Biggest Dongle Surely that's the shoddy dealer network. Should be fixed in one visit. I've had nothing but bad experiences with LR Dealers!
@Biggest Dongle Newer? Like what year? What's he had fixed? Is there any reason the only things I replaced on my Defender were a new turbo, a drag link ball joint and the driver's side doorhandle? at 156k+ miles over a space of three years... how did I cope 😏

Great review. Always a pleasure to listen to a person who knows about the topic.
Fantastic. Great review Harry. Really informative. Learned loads and really enjoyed that. Thanks. M
Very happy that Harry points out the value of faster charging over longer range for higher combined mileage. One shouldn't only look at a range number when evaluating a PHEV or BEV.
Only Harry can pull off a video overviewing a new car without standing in front of the actual new car and have me watch the whole thing without feeling bored
definitely agreed. I was there , during the filming and I could imagine a new car
Your videos are always very informative, and I like how you explain things. I also think the new Range rover looks very good!
Thanks harry, your talk about range rover was educating and explanatory..👍
Another truly superb review. Honest and professional as always and a true joy to watch. Even though I can't afford the floor mats on a new Range Rover, let alone the rest of the car, I absolutely love it! Nothing quite does it like a Range Rover does!
Good on them for leaving the indicators off the back of it, Land Rover really know their target market.
Thoughtful, fact filled, and from a confirmed Range Rover fan As ever spot on Harry👍
This compare and contrast is extremely helpful, thanks Harry.
Best Range Rover related video I've ever watched, I could feel the passion and anecdotic feeling all through. Can't wait to have my own first Range Rover experience! Thanks for the beautiful video.
Buy 2 and then use 1 for parts.
I’ve owned two post 2010 Range Rovers and after owning a Toyota Land Cruiser, I don’t think that I could ever own another Land Rover product. The LC may not be as exciting in design, but it sure holds its value and when you are extremely busy, like I am, you just don’t have the time to visit the service station every other month with agonizingly-stupid mechanical failures.
In a nutshell. *Why oh why*, won't LR address this front and square? For heaven's sake LR - deal with it!
I read this somewhere, “if you are having transmission problems you must own a LR”
I feel like this is a lie because luxury car owners usually still stay luxury and don’t downgrade to the bottom of the car luxury scale.
Really you are very busy in searching range rover reviews and talk shit there in comments , I don't think you just have an alto 800 , you need to admit in a good lieing school .
Thanks for a brilliant review Harry, at some point I'd love to see a video of your wind turbine setup and how much energy you get from it, especially if you can factor in the capital cost of the hardware over the expected lifetime compared to the energy cost saved by not using power from the grid. In fact I'd love to come down and quiz you on it!
Great review Harry as usual and the honesty same as you are on the farm
Thanks Harry, very informative. After 120K miles on the original engine and 21 years of faithful service from my 4.6 P38 Vogue, I am now intrigued enough to wander into my local dealer and see the latest iteration of Rangeys for myself. My heart says another V8, but with the modern diesels and hybrids my head is saying something else. Only a decent test drive will tell I guess.
Thoroughly enjoyed your video, as always very informative. Particularly like the bonus material on your Range Rover Classic and L322. Yet to be sold on the newer L405 and L460 designs and in my rather biased view the L322 is still my favourite model after a classic 2 door. Also agree on your view about the newer ones looking more urban Vs country.
amazing review thanks for the great work
Thanks for sharing your family RR history - really enjoyed the deep dive. Former P38 owner
Best Review I've ever seen on any car, I could feel the passion and feeling all through. Can't wait to have my own first Range Rover experience! Thanks for the video Harry
Great information thank you. I keep a 4.6 HSE P38 in the UK as a hobby car. It is the only car I have owned that I enjoy driving long distances in. I find the P38 interesting because it pioneered quite a few of what are now everyday features on cars. That said it takes a lot of different skill sets to keep it running, but spare parts are really cheap. I have driven the P38 diesel and it wasn't a patch on the V8.
The 2.5 BMW Turbo Diesel was dangerously underpowered
@@paulie-Gualtieri. Agreed, I thought it was hopelessly underpowered and it must have cost the a lot of sales when people tried them out.
respect for the "linage" of Rover evolution in collection kept to day - id love that myself if could . Good stuff mate
Wow, so much information n all are very important worth watching 🙏 thank u
Harry is the thinking man's Jeremy Clarkson. Another great video.
Splendid evaluation on the new Range Rover Harry! And particularly enjoyed your summary across many generations of full-size Range Rover. I’m actually on my third 322 having purchased each one second hand. I can appreciate your high rating on this particular model. It was difficult selling my 2011 supercharged but I couldn’t pass up a 2006 Supercharged last year with only 28,000 original miles. That is now my primary car that I should be able to drive for the next decade or more. By then the new model now should become much more affordable so I can skip over last years highbred altogether. Though the technology is there along with its superior off-road capabilities, range rover seems to be slipping away from any sort of rugged look whatsoever. At 63 I guess I’m just old school.
car enthusiast and interested in 2022 range rover - I stumbled on your channel and amazed with the level of detail. Great, great video. new subscriber!
Thank you so much for your GREAT details actually.
It's no longer designed as a car; it's designed as a house. It looks like a new mountain home in the alps.
Or a mechanical hippopotamus with an engine. :0)
Unlike most bulky American offerings though it's actually useful off-road.
@@skylined5534 It's a shame most of them won't ever leave Chelsea.
😁👍🏾
I would love to see more on that Overfinch/hybrid old Range Rover. Sounds like quite the car :) As range Rovers go my heart still beats for the L322. I love everything about it.
I miss mine: a 2004 4.4 litre V8 L322 - fast & comfortable and unstoppable off road!
Fantastic collection and fabulous narration of the new Range Rover machine.
Love the rear and side profile the most, love that its now squarer than before
I really like the smooth, flush exterior - very luxurious and elegant. The interior is stunning - actually reminds me of a Volvo interior in it's minimalism and style.
Looks better on a video as opposed to the early release shots. Quick off the block there Harry!!

Great review as usual ... some of the comparisons surprising. Very enjoyable
Great video Harry, thanks for sharing.
Can't wait to see a full review. Will be interesting to see how the the new model handles that steep bank on your farm once its got past the cows!
Gosh - didn’t expect that… was just looking at buying my third Range Rover an L322 after owning a classic then P38 4.0 petrol for 10 and 15 years respectively - looks like I am going to be 2 generations behind again when I eventually purchase my L322….But you know what I don’t care as I still love my older Range Rovers - so practical with the family, dogs and small farm…taking the odd sheep to the vets, towing the caravan, trailers and grass roller etc.😀
L322 is the 993 of the range as far as I’m concerned- love mine! (2007 Supercharged).
Same story with me. P38 and then L322 both V8 one petrol and the recent TDV8. The new model I will purchase in 10 or 15 years
Very nicely done! I could listen to your reviews all day!
Excellent - extremely informative. Thank you
Great overview. I actually prefer the older less sleek looking shaped vehicles, but the interior of the latest model is fantastic.
Could you get the new Fpace SVR on the channel? That would be really enjoyable.
Thank you for your review in these beautiful cars...
Another typically excellent Harry's Garage review, which earned a subscription from me.
This car will sell like crazy!!! Absolutely gorgeous ❤️
Great overview Harry and fully agree with your view on L322 as a special car - I have had 14 of them plus a Classic - never had P38 and never loved the current model. New one looks a big improvement 👍
Fabulous 'unbiased' video from Harry 8 rovers. Absolutely love it.
A super snapshot of Range Rover history, another great video Harry.
Harry, this is such a great report on a new car. Comparing the new model with your recent models is so clever and your knowledge on these cars adds to the watching experience. So impressive.
Agree that was a great way to add personal knowledge to the review.
I have absolutely no desire for, or interest in vehicles like this but it was worth watching this video to learn that Harry once owned a Honda Insight.
Second all you say !
Every time he wastes a vid on a new Country Club SUV I want to spit.
That your Alfa 159 in your pic? I've owned a couple of them in the past, beautiful cars.
@@MikeyMichaelton A man of taste - yes it's my old 159. Sold it at the beginning of the year. Wonderful car, I'm starting to miss it now but I'm still in an Alfa.
Oh yeah that's the reason to watch. Absurd
Excellent review. Thanks Harry
Very excellent presentation on the Range Rover, an honest review by a owner of the vehicle that uses them daily.
That MPG is genuinely impressive.
Interesting how Harry uses his Phev and gets so many mpg out of it. New one has a 36 kWh battery and 50 KW dc fast charging.(car wow) so should be even better. Take care all M.
@@markeh1971 The battery isn't free though, so unless you consistently do a lot of city driving I wonder whether it pays off financially.
@@phamnuwen9442 Hi, fuel at £1.50 L power at 15p per kw or free. Electric is cheaper and can be better for your lungs. Free if you charge at Tesco!

Outstanding review and comparison. Quite useful.
appreciate this summary of the new car. I have an early 2013 Diesel autobiography here in New Zealand now only 100000KM . Love the car, love the new one but at 75 I will be not reinvesting. Also have 87 V12 XJS 120000KM from new. Ex Brit Motor Engineer . Always enjoy your commentaries
Mate, are you related to Mr Barry Crump?
That electric powered cup holder in the back of the old Range Rover is LITERALLY NEVER GOING TO BREAK...... honestly.
How's the powered rear armrest that is as slow AF to come down on the old wank-o-meter. That will never have any issues either. Just pull it down FFS. Are the rich so weak and pale that can't manage to do that anymore?
Happy new year,Harry.keep them coming
Great information, thanks Harry!
I think one of the symbols of wealth is constantly driving high end loaners.
Good for me. I like the old one better in regard to steering wheel and infotainment. Also always liked the gear selector. It rising always felt special. I hope the older model drops in price now
This was really informative. Thanks Harry. I am looking to get the new Range Rover. Never owned one before. The only Land Rover I have owned was a TD4 Defender. I love your euphoria for Range Rover and I just start liking them more and more..
Great video Harry. Love it and very informative

Great review Harry. Silent on your experiences with build quality and reliability. I’d also mention customer service but suspect you fare well in that given who you are. I’m a serial Porsche-offile and and am in my 3rd Cayenne for the role your Rangie performs. My current one (the turbo) carried us to the South of France and back incredibly easily last week. We’re considering a change and are looking at Bentayga or DBX just for the extra comfort and interior packaging. I’d never consider a Rangie due to concerns on the former points so would really appreciate a non-biased view from you in your future reviews. Thanks for the content.
Great video Harry thank you
Top class as always. Keep up the super updates. 👏👏
The rear end styling is a home run. The 23" wheels are absurd.
Not when you consider that the competition spec wheels (genuine) on an M4 are 20"...
@@skylined5534 Most reviews of these luxury SUVs remark on how roughly they ride due to the unsprung mass from the large wheels. But the manufacturers persist for the "bling" factor. What's more, a Range Rover is supposed to be off road capable. You won't get far off road with rubber band sidewalls.
@@skylined5534 Struggling to see the connection.
To me the rear end is a let-down, Lights are out of proportion being too thin.
The WAGS will love this one , it’ll make parking outside Waitrose much easier 🙄
Nicely done Harry. Looking forward to another artic circle excursion.
As usual great review,
It looks perfect, definitely think it might be my next car.
good luck
I am so delighted they are keeping a petrol v8… I couldn’t have it any other way.
That’s the only thing I disagreed on. Diesel may be more practical but a Range Rover should have a V8 in my book.
How do they get a petrol V8 pass the EU WLTP fleet emissions requirements? Is the petrol V8 within the 95 g CO2/km fleet average required in 2021? One worries that EU WLTP rules give too many breaks to large vehicles, while being overly punitive against economy vehicles. The old Range Rover Sport is 324 g CO2/km on the combined cycle which is extremely poor, even compared to other 5.0L V8 vehicles (usually in the low 200 range).
@@TassieLorenzo Given the mileage most private people do all this co2 stuff is just nonsense there are many bigger pollutants than 🚘 cars. Given they are no longer in the EU I guess they might not be worried about losing sales their versus Uk China and the USA markets. I don’t know… most of the climate change lobby is motivated by individual groups who can make a profit from it so there is masses of misinformation and most people just suck it up. We are already watching the energy utility companies collapsing in front of our eyes while they try to meet targets set by bureaucrats who don’t know anything about the topics they are legislating.
Such a great video Harry really enjoyed it
I agree Harry. The new Range Rover is stunning. The rear light design is genius. A game changer.

Cheers harry well done you old chap most informative
The door being a long way away is a genuine 'first world' problem. Great video as always.
It sounds like justifying a gimmick because of viewing the company/model through rose-tinted glasses. Not something we see from Harry, but given his history with Range Rovers I think it's understandable. Even the most impartial individuals would be prone to a bit of unconscious bias if they're considering buying their tenth of the model over a number of decades.
Do people in the 3rd world have longer arms??
These comments are very much the life of privilege, when your brain tells you that having to reach for the car door is a problem. What utter nonsense.
