We worked together with LA Building & Construction Limited of Crowthorne Berkshire, to convert a double garage and create this Luxurious UltraHD home cinema room with a 2.35:1 acoustically transparent screen and 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos sound. This seven seat cinema room has acoustically transparent fabric panels to hide the in wall speakers. The fabric panels also conceal many plumbing and electrical utilities, which were already located in the garage and needed to remain in place, but unseen. We have a web page specifically about this project. here is a link to the web page. ukhomecinemas.com/home-cinema...
The Garage conversion work was carried out to a high standard with soundproofing features incorporated into the screen wall and the floor was thermally insulated. The timelapse video is mesmerizing with very fast action and a lot of activity shown within a very short time. The cinema room features lighting control with control4 and projection using a Sony SXRD 4K projector utilising motorised lens with lens memories to enable all aspect ratios to be projected at full height on the cinema scope screen. The speakers are Dali Phantom with thunderous bass from two Dali K14F Subwoofers. The processing and amplification is delivered by an Anthem MRX-1140 AV Receiver. All of the design work was done by UK Home Cinemas of Berkshire UK as well as the supply and installation of the audio-visual equipment and the elements of home cinema style such as the fabric wall panels etc. The building work for the garage conversion (and for prerequisites for the cinema room) was carried out by LA Building and Construction Limited, also of Berkshire UK. Sound proofing elements were incorporated into the design of the screen wall, such as the use of resilient bar to decouple and reduce the transfer of vibration from the acoustic plasterboard to studs and the use of several layers of acoustic plasterboard , use of rockwool inside the stud wall and having the speakers set into a separate layer of plywood located in front of the main stud wall. The size of the double garage prior to conversion was: approximately 7.2 Metres long by about 4.7 metres wide. A small part of this remains as a storage area, accessible via the original garage door, so the length of the finished cinema room is about 6.3 metres. The original ceiling height of the garage was about 2.47 Metres. This was reduced slightly due to adding insulation in the floor as can be seen in the video.

    • Good point , the garage already had a motorised door which rolls up at the top. If that ever fails it could be a problem :-) there is a storage space behind the screen wall but its quite small.

  • Hi, I loved the video and I'm a follower of the page, your videos are inspiration for making a cinema at home, in particular this one was even better as it had paintings with images of Ayrton Senna, I'm a Brazilian and a fan of both. Hug

  • Great video! How many days did it take from start to finish?

    • It was different teams at different times, the first part of the work was carried out by LA Building and Construction Limited and the 2nd part by UK Home Cinemas. with some overlap between us. I think the whole project took about 20 days or so.

  • Can I ask why you didn’t put any type of insulation in the side walls between the block wall and the stretch fabric panels?

    • Thanks for the question. - We used acoustic absorption foam panels in various places as well as acoustic diffusion panels, which you can see in the video ( located behind the fabrics), but we don't like to over do it , we don't want the room acoustics to be totally dead. Many of the fabric panels are removable, so we had the option to wait until it was finished, if it needed more acoustic absorption we could easily add some, but with all of the complex shapes and the soft furnishings etc we are really pleased with the acoustics of the room.

    • @@Ukhomecinemas no fella all the films have gone to s**t with Woke, only decent recent films were oppenheimer and Dune 2. NB i converted my internal garage into a home cinema, with a Sauna and a work out/gym area space. bricked up the door and put a window in, then turned it into a total blacked out bat cave with black velvet around the screen and the walls near the screen and black theatre curtains , i DIY built a 102 inch diagonal acoustic screen, Epson TW9200 projector, dark grey sofa , my good old DD/DTX Yamaha 5.1 surround system with a meridean Sub , black carpet flooring over a substantial amount of underlay, multicoloured remote controlled light bulb that can be dimmed. All in about £2k. May upgrade to Atmos set up at some point. nothing beats a projected image for movies
