Congratulations to the BMW design team for making every new car they put out only look somewhat acceptable in black to hide the design as much as possible.

I remember back in the early 2000s when the X5 was first introduced. BMW M CEO said in an interview "We will never make a M SUV version of the X5, we also will never make any M car turbocharged, it is not what we do". A couple of years later the X5M was launched, now every M car has turbos and look at that, we have M SUVs. So yeah....how things change.
This car design will grow on people over time like the M4 and M3. The hate right now is irrelevant.

It’ll probably be a pig to be honest. With a hybrid system that’s going to add hundreds of Kg, it’s going to to lose every advantage the F90 has.
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh oh for sure. Same as the GT63 S E-Performance, barely quicker than the regular GT63 S, while suffering from all the drawbacks of having a plug-in hybrid system. Still, the technology will become more efficient over time and BMW has proven with the XM, that their are capable to make even the fattest of pigs wiggle their rear end in corners
@@juancho939 Never claimed a X5M E53 exists. The E53 was the testing ground for M tho. See „X5 LeMans“. X5 4.8is also the first mass produced performance SUV by BMW. Hence me mentioning the E53.

The thing with the smoothness depends a lot on your Drivelogic setup. If your in setting 3, it becomes rough on purpose. For smoothness, chose 1.

Great video, the performance of this thing far exceeds my expectations of it! The average person who buys this SAV will probably never drive it in this manner and I have to be honest, I like it more in person but it doesn’t really look fast. I really like the exhaust and the upgraded interior on this monster.

not gonna lie, this design has grown on me astronomically, i'd never have expected it. probs a heavy dose of copium but the front 3/4 angle looks stunning, i'd go for a different wheel choice though

Actually on the registration the model is called X8 M, at least in the brief from Germany test models.

The First Continental GT runs 326 km/h with 400 mm steel-brakes The X7 by Alpina also on steel. But i understand, ceramic should be possible.
It has steel brakes because BMW knows that the people who can actually afford to buy one of these won’t be racing them. Instead they’ll be going to high end stores and restaurants 😂

I initially didn’t like it, but it is really starting to grow on me. It’s like the forbidden fruit. The interior is gorgeous as well. You need to have the exterior in black.Also, it is relatively cheap in The Netherlands, (145k) with all the good stuff on it.

I test driven new 5 series 520d and it’s most likely same steering feeling as you described in this car. It’s so strange. Car goes where you want it to but you don’t feel a thing and I didn’t like it at all. Sure, it turned great and even standard suspension was good but when I went back home in my f10 535d I was thinking that I wouldn’t swap them at all. Also interesting point is that newest 5 series have so bad response when shifting with paddles. It’s probably 3 times slower than f10. Actually even my fathers lci g30 540i have tiny bit slower response on up shifts with paddles but it’s almost not noticeable in this case.
Yolo, I'm one of the workers in the factory that build this car. I really want to see an intense stress test on this car since it's one of our most expensive SUVs we make comming in about 160k USD for the lowest tier package. Also if you guys have any questions about it do ask I might be able to answer them for you.

I saw the launch car aswell at BMW Munich and it was meh but I saw a blue metallic one with black accents on the road driving past me and it looked really really good. Obviously its a useless car but it really isnt as bad as most people say Also: Ceramic brakes are not necessary, steel brakes are better unless you drive on a track. Theyre just as strong and theyre a lot cheaper with similiar performance
Plus the steel brake on this thing is crazy good
Steel brakes are better with a car that almost weights 3 ton? 4/5 Times hard braking at the autobahn and the steel braking discs are done. So ceramic discs are required for this heavy tractor.
@@Aslan-tubenl Ceramic brakes are only beneficial for making the rotors and pads last longer. That's why you see them used in endurance racing like LeMans 24hr and the like. Steel brakes are used all the time in racing where extra long life is not required. The stopping power, and ability to do multiple stops is just as good with steel.

If Darth Vader stepped out of that car it would fit in my opinion. I like the look of the car. It definitely has a different rear view but I found that your head mounted camera kind of skews the view for me. The performance is right up there and I definitely wouldn’t be complaining. The shifts were quick and solid to me. I’m sure the price is elevated above my pay grade by a whole lot. I like it.
I also think that it looks good but only in black colour at night when there is no lights on

It’s more M then it’s BMW i suppose. as you said it’s also more about get out of my way, then x5 and x3s are. This is like a compromise between BMW and M, but M won. Not the M that we have and are used to from BMW, but the crazy porn of an M that the future generations of drivers will expect a M BMW to be.
The front is not an issue for me. It looks striking, which is the intention and I’m fine with it. And this was my opinion when it first emerged. I believe it’ll look better in person as well. I dig it. It’s the rear 3rd that doesn’t work for me. It looks squished and I’m not crazy about the tail lights.

I get your problem with the XM 50 e story. Cupra did the same when they brought out the Formentor. First they advertised it as a performance car and as the new essence of Cupra. Five month later they announce that these cars will also be available with a 1.4 l TDI engine and a 1.4 l TSI Engine with 110 hp. Pretty disappointing. The Golf R and RS3 Engine in Formentor remain as great engines.
Hi Max, I'm planning a trip to Germany later this year. There will be an autobahn trip from Munich to Frankfurt. Do you recommend any route in between for a trial of 250-300kph? Which route do you usually use for your masterpieces?
Max does his speed tests all in the near of the Dutch border, so not in the near of your route. I would recommend you to take your trip through Stuttgart, the autobahn vom Munich to Stuttgart is one of the best to drive a little bit faster ;) do it in the early morning on a weekend. You will have a blast !!
If you end up in Munich, I can recommend the Autobahn A8 from Munich to Ulm. There you can drive really fast most of the time. But in itself it does not matter which route you take, there are always places where you can drive fast

I saw this XM at a BMW Dealer completely blacked out with white interior. It looks amazing and I absolutely love it In Photos & Videos it does not look that good

I think the XM is just a very nichy car, that has it's own place and just doesn't want to be compared to other cars. By this regards, I think M has made a great job and it somehow hits the spot and time just right, maybe even a little bit ahead of it. This also explaines the design language, the plans for the 50i and also the reason why they did not include ceramic breaks as standard, because ceramic breaks are just not for every possible customer of this car - which is definetly not someone who wants to go on a track with it. In German we call this: Technologieträger.

Why is it selling so well? Coz it's just the lastest flashy expensive tech thing, it's like a gold iPhone. It's a Louis Vuitton handbag. The Active Sound seems quite loud too and i could imagine it getting tiring after a long drive. Along with the other BMW models mentioned some say the X2 M35i is also too stiffly sprung, can't BMW do compliant but well handling vehicles? Rock-hard ride doesn't always make for the best handling ride on real roads, but i guess the average fashion-hungry punter thinks otherwise... Thanks for the review!
