  • College athletes should have all food and travel expenses covered and payment enough to buy clothes and books and live. My only problem and it comes from English football as of late. So there you have a lot more kids becoming “superstars” and making such money and you can tell there’s a decline in motivation to get better and become a little complacent. But we still need to figure something out for these kids.

    @vibangigan5336@vibangigan53365 жыл бұрын
  • If people agree that student athletes basically get "paid" in tuition, then why not just have them get paid directly for sports? Most of them don't even have the time nor energy for studies bc it's all spent training. The school doesn't take any loss from giving them scholarships if they don't even get to utilize these resources

  • Yeah you should pay athletes is simple. They either get 10% of the ticket sales divided among the team for home games or they get 50% of any revenue off merchardaise that bears their name / number. Every other college student gets to make money off their achievement. If you are on an academic scholarship and you win an award or you get published no one says you can't receive any monetary / financial benefits because you got a scholarship

    • There’s ethnic cleansing being done by the Israel government on Palestinians. US government supports Israel and has instituted laws that make it illegal to boycott Israel. Which is absolutely unconstitutional. It’s a censored issue in America you get smeared as an anti semit by the media if you bring it up. People are asking Hassan since he brags about free speech in America and he has spoken about the human rights violations in China and Saudi Arabia.

      @blakehereth9222@blakehereth92225 жыл бұрын
    • American politicians support Israel and Saudi Arabia, the media supports Israel (but not Saudi which is why Hasan has the green light to criticize them). As American citizens we should be aware of this and not support human rights violations, Israel, or Saudi Arabia despite our government and media doing so.

  • I forget consistently that fencing is a thing in academic sports. Also, I really feel as though academic and sports do not fit together at all haha. I actually only found out two weeks ago that Swimming is apparently a High School sport - part of the athletics program. When I was walking to the basketball courts by the swim center I was deeply confused and curious as to A) When did swimming become a high school sport, B) HOW is it a sport in school and C) How did I get through school with siblings and NEVER realize swimming was even a thing? Hell my sister was playing Soccer, Basketball AND Softball during school from elementary on through, AND she was into swimming and I never heard of it until then.

    • No pools in the 'hood. School which have swimming teams were usually built with pools. Inner city schools? Hardly, unless they were built before WWI-II, in neighborhoods before white flight. Then the pools were filled in and the space repurposed. My high school pool became the band room.

Whether it be about the school that falsified stories of low-income and domestic abuse to get black students into universities, or the extremely wealthy conspiring with college faculty to get their kids into elite schools, it cannot be ignored that there are serious problems with the college admissions system today that takes away from hundreds of honest students' acceptances.

  • At the very least, college athletes should be able to capitalize on their own image and likeness (endorsements, commercials, acting gigs, etc.), make a share of all merchandise sold and be granted a scholarship for life (that is, they always reserve the right to return to college and complete their degree, regardless how long it takes. One free degree or a generous amount of credit hours). Also free room and board, free gear plus a stipend while playing for the team. If they're not gonna pay the players, then there needs to be a modest cap on coaching salaries while all other profits go to school improvements.

  • Most of the athletes in college are on full scholarships, especially at D1 schools. Getting free 4 year degrees from great schools. That's their pay check. Look at the students who have to pay 10's of thousands to get the same degree because they're not athletes.

    @jeffree6996@jeffree69965 жыл бұрын
    • But they should be in guaranteed degree programs if their specific sports are making the school a profit or receive some sort of salary from the school or have an account set up to their name with the funds getting released to them upon graduation or termination from the team/transferring schools. Not a huge amount but something to help them getting settled into regular life upon finishing school, specially if they suffered an injury or are unable to go pro

    • They play an important role in providing the schools with funding for arts and sciences and often get the short end of the stick upon graduation

    • Except they have to prioritize their studies behind their athletic careers. Also, the other students aren't bringing millions of dollars nor working full-time hours in service to the university (as individuals).

    • mr.knowitall you don't think getting a scholarship paid for is enough? Profit sharing shouldn't go to students, period. Highschool sports bring money to the school also. Just collegiate is a bigger scale. I attended RMU and it wasn't cheap. In my class we're student athletes with an 2.4 gpa getting free education just because they were good at a sport in high school. How is that fair? How on earth should they also get paid? The money the school makes off of them is the schools money. It gets spent throughout the university.

  • I don’t know if they should get paid but they deserve something like Workers compensation insurance for players who are injured.

    @TheKappybook@TheKappybook5 жыл бұрын
  • So personally, I dont think players should get played for playing. They are already getting scholarships so perfectly they are getting however much their college costs, but it goes directly to their education. Therefore they are getting paid, they just never "see" the money. But for the merchandise with their names and faces and such on it, they should be allowed to get a cut of that. That is their likeness and they should get something for it.

  • All athletes should be paid the average living wage of approximately $20 an hour salary for every hour of practice and game play because they are providing a service to the school. Community colleges will have a lower salary point. Athletes like basketball players and football players who can get money from t shirts and video games will have the option to have no agent or be provided with special college sports agents who will be paid by the college and be on retainer so their activities can be over seen and to make sure they are giving the student athletes fair deals. That nonsalaried money will be set aside for the student athlete for when they graduate college or stop playing college sports, possibly in a trust fund or some other type of savings.

  • I'm not sure... pesticides in nyc weed were wild in 2005-2006 but I'm pretty sure I was playing 2K6 College Hoops with Spike Lee when I was living in Brooklyn... we came up with the idea of a Trust for the students when we got all sad that they took the game off xbox live due to athlete parent's or lawyers getting their panties in a bunch...;) that game was fun... we were sad it went away and then I sold my xbox and forgot this happened... Spike Lee would have told me it never happened... if it did;) I was just trying to get local games on and think I logged in when his dad was playing or something; but yeah, pay the athletes so 2K College Hoops can come back...

If they ever had gone head to head directly, Biggie would have washed him. But I love them both, and said beef is why we lost em so lets not dwell on that
