This is my conversion of the 1/32 Hasegawa Fw 190D-9 kit into a Fw 190D-13. Although I had access to both the Grey Matter and Real Models D-13 resin conversion sets, I elected to sculpt the forward fuselage myself. The aftermarket pieces that were used in the build include:
1. Grey Matter (Jerry Rutman) 190D-13 resin engine cowling
2. Real Models 190D-13 resin supercharger intake
3. Henri Daehne VS9 190D-13 resin prop
4. Eagle Editions 190D resin cockpit set
5. Eagle Editions 190D resin wooden flaps
6. Eagle Editions 190D-9, D-11, D-13 resin tail wheel
7. Aires 190D resin wheel wells
8. Synthetic Ordnance Works 190D composite landing gear legs
9. Barracuda 190D resin wheel
10. Eagle Cal Yellow 10 decals

    • Thank you! I appreciate the comment! It was fun build but the highlight was getting comments/tips from the late Mr. Jerry Crandall himself. RIP.

  • Greetings, congratulations on your build! Jerry Crandall hired me to make the master patterns for the Eagle Editions cockpit that you used here, I am very pleased with your results! This very aircraft was Jerry's favorite, he would have been happy to see your model. Well done!

    • Thank you! Those resin cockpits from Eagle Editions are the best upgrades for the Hasegawa 190 kits. And thank you for mentioning Jerry Crandall. His personal history with this aircraft is well documented and I used his books extensively as references on this build. I was extremely fortunate to have Mr. Crandall comment on my build as he was a regular member at largescaleplanes.com. In addition to making specific recommendations on the painting of the seat, the peculiar wood flaps and the lack of stencil markings on the undercarriage legs, he was graciously complimentary to the project overall. I was honored to have him actively participate in my build! May he Rest In Peace.

  • G'day - stunning build, John. 👍 Could I ask how you riveted the kit?? Specifically the model of riveting tool and wheel pitch? I've tried riveting my kit and the plastic is so hard the tool I'm using just rolls over the surface. And yes, I'm putting considerable pressure on the tool. Look forward to more builds. Cheers.

    • Thank you sir! I used a rivet wheel tool. Specifically from Galaxy Tools in the 1.00mm pitch. Very similar to the RB Productions Rivet-R tool, which is unfortunately out of production, I believe. I've used both and commonly utilize the 1.00mm pitch for 1/32 aircraft builds. I've not had any problems with the teeth not penetrating the plastic but a firm pressure is needed.

    • @@thunnus1964 Hey mate - Yeah I've got one of those too, though the smaller pitch wheels. Ok, well I'll give it another go then. Cheers

  • Can you explain the step where you sprinkled a powder on the model for further weathering? Amazing job overall!

    • Hello! The weathering technique that is shown at 5:48 mark in the video utilizes salt crystals to form a random mottle pattern mask. A diluted coat of a lighter color (usually grey or khaki) is sprayed over the salt. When the salt is removed, a faint wear pattern is left behind. I think it mimics the rain/water stains that you see on large objects left outside for long periods of time. For more information on this technique, please refer to my build log at... forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/85133-132-hasegawa-fw190d-13-yellow-10/page/24/
