  • If she has a bit of juice on her like she said then she really needs to shower first before leaving the facility. The entire point of confiscating food items is to prevent the spread of plant diseases across international borders and if she has juice on her at the end of the day when she goes home this kind of defeats the purpose because that juice could have some harmful disease that will get loose into the environment.

    • +1973Washu The smell of juice is not automatically actual juice, but I wouldn't feel at all bad about making all customs employees who handle contraband take a shower before leaving their workplace. It is no more unreasonable than confiscated cut fruit with no insects visible in it. Rather than post here send your suggestion to the Health and Agricultural committees of Congress.

    • @@ibvghgfvbnbc You should re-read Teagans comment, you seem to have misunderstood. She's simply stating that if people didn't bring food over boarders illegally, it wouldn't get wasted. Probably because China has very lax food regulations so meat, eggs, and dairy may not be made of the products you think of (like jello eggs or concrete filled walnuts) as well as they might have diseases. And jerky traditionally isn’t cooked but semi fermented. and also they probably confiscated it so it’s not sold in US stores and posing a health risk That’s why it’s hard to find Chinese food outside of import stores. Luckily the Chinese government is trying to help people from buying these fake food products, especially meats.

It affects about one person in every one million people per year worldwide; in the United States there are about 300 cases per year. This is why you can't bring in beef. • I'm gonna be explaining a lot of question in the comments: 1. How are avocados illegal? Avocados aren't illegal BUT if a passenger tries to carry it over, then that becomes a different story. 2. How is that illegal? It's only ham Just because it's not a fruit/vegetable product, doesn't mean that it couldn't have any disease of any kind. 3.Why not give away the fruits that are without holes or insects?? Just because there isn't any visible damages, doesn't mean it couldn't carry something. (Next one isn't really a question but a statement) 4. So much food wasted, and we have people starving Well, some airports do make clear of the food contraband, some people do actually still choose to try smuggle the food.

    • Maria Chirokova two things diseases and invasive species. diseases that we aren't exposed to before can result in a epidemic that would be difficult to control invasive species are worse since they not only adapt to their new environment they thrive to where they do harm to the environment and unless they have predators to counter the numbers (in which most don't have) they would over grow and keep taking more

    • AVeryHappyTeddyBear Your key word is extremely "rare". You have a one in a million chance for something to go wrong and you are going to lock everything down, just because the risk is there? When you eat food, you always have a chance of getting a food borne illness. Should you stop eating in that case? That's a terrible argument. So stop shit-posting it.

      @monmon1741@monmon17417 жыл бұрын
    • AVeryHappyTeddyBear classic CDJ isn't even linked to contaminated beef. What are you talking about? Not to mention that it's vCDJ that is transmitted through meat and is rarer than the original. Most people who contract CDJ inherit it from their parents through viral DNA replacement. Which brings me back to my original argument. It's so rare (a literal less than one in a million chance) that even lifting the restrictions wouldn't suddenly cause mass infection. It's transmission is very difficult. So why take annoying restrictions against something that literally occurs once in a million.

  • This is common in other counties such as Australia. I too think it’s stupid and believe that they’re going over the top, but it is possible for food to contain bugs and their eggs. If they enter the US and aren’t controlled they can wipe out entire species of plants and other bugs. Here in the UK, this has happened with Tarantulas hiding in bunches of bananas.

    @guardian8184@guardian81845 жыл бұрын
  • So even sealed packaged food items are confiscated?! Seems a little overboard if there's no way for insects or bacteria to enter. What if you just mail the stuff you wanted to bring back? Would it still get confiscated even if there's no insects or bacteria?
