You do not get any decent sleep under those circumstances - a joke of a sleeping bag for starters. You would barely sleep nicely on a cold summer night - not in Finland though. Here that bag would be enough for a medium June night at 9 C. It is just hilarious.

I did enjoy watching how he built everything, even though there are some basic safety issues. Still haven't figured out how the pottery he made from mud suddenly got glazed or where the fresh straw came from. This was not a simple hike into the woods, build a hut situation.

A lot of these outdoor videos show a guy with all the latest fancy equipment and after he builds the shelter he stays in it only one night. Here you are with the most basic stuff and yet you made it comfortable and lived there for months! I'm impressed. A pleasure to watch.

  • There's always something intriguing about watching bushcraft videos for me. I enjoy camping and it is the primary reason as to why I joined Boy Scouts, so that I could camp. Alas, we only ever did tent camping, but I do recall one night at summer camp when doing my Wilderness Survival merit badge that we had to sleep outside with no tent, only afforded with a single tarp for each person, some twine, and our sleeping bags of course. I didn't have my own tarp, so I grabbed a random tarp out of the troop trailer, which turned out to be the best decision I made. The tarp was absolutely massive! If you laid it out flat, you could fit like 9 fully grown men on it, laying all in the same direction, which when some other kids saw it, minds immediately went to building a tipi. However, we couldn't quite lash the tripod correctly, and it always fell back down on us. The plan initially was to build the tipi and my tarp was to fully enclose it, and then everyone else would put their tarps underneath it and we would all sleep proud of the shelter we built. But of course, nothing ever goes right. It began to rain. Hard. As a result we all ditched the tipi and tried to quickly assemble shelters for our own. Due to the size of my tarp, I quite simply folded it in half to cocoon myself and put twine between the holes to tie it together, but it didn't stop the rain from coming in. When morning came, everyone was quite miserable, as their sleeping bags had been mostly soaked through. If I could change one thing about that night, I would remember my lashings so I could build that tipi and we wouldn't be as miserable that night. Well that rant got out of hand. Anywho I would love to, given the opportunity, go out with some friends and build a shelter like this and spend a couple nights in it. Just to say we did.
