  • 'Merging Germanic culture with Romano-British practices...' What Romano-British practices? Otherwise, this video will be useful to anyone who comes fresh to the period.

    • That's what I was asking myself because it doesn't seem like the Anglo-Saxon merged their culture with the Romano Britons but made them adopt their Germanic culture

    • @@SandileNgwenya-gv7nx Yes. That is why we speak English rather than something more like Anglo-Celtic.

    • The Angles, Saxons and Jutes worshipped Wodin and Thur, a southern version of Norse Paganism. The Romano Britons were Christians. Does that answer your confusion.

  • Horses weren't used for warfare, in that era of anglo saxon England.

    • Yes they were. While the shield wall may be the icon method of set piece battles, cavalry were used both in pursuit of a broken enemy, for scouting, and to guard the flanks of the shield wall. They had many other military uses as well but there were expensive and thus, as is the case event today, it generally came down to boots on the ground.

    • @@ronaldwinfield307 That could be said of any army including those of today. The comment stated that 'Horses weren't used for warfare, in that era of Anglo Saxon England' which is simply incorrect. Your comment is correct as is mine; the original one is not.

    • Yes they were but usually for the important people, rich or at that time the first small cavalry force which grew larger each year. In those days you'd have around 50 to 100 cavalry per army but at that time they weren't the deciding factor in battles. Who told you that there were no horses etc?

  • BE QUIET! I *order* you to be quiet! "Order", eh, 'oo does 'e think 'e is? I am your king! Well I didn't vote for you! You don't vote for kings! Well 'ow'd you become king then? The Lady of the Lake-- her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king! Listen: Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some... farcical aquatic ceremony!
