I started doing things that were supposed to work like this 22 years ago when i moved to this house..then 14 years ago I had way to many responsibilities that i accepted. And never got a chance to finish..now disabled i get to lay here watching someone that finished the job..GOOD ON YOU!!

If techniques like this we're implemented in more commercial growing operations (with polyculture and other regenerative practices, of course!) We would rarely have to worry about drought.

It should be standard on new built homes. They should all have back-up solar & water cache systems. Especially in drought prone areas.

In Bengaluru ,India , apartments big or small have this mandatory to get approval however individual houses do not have stringent compulsion on rainwater. Solar however is compulsory for every house apartment and electricity connection is not given without it

Nice! I bought 2 50 gal tanks that look like planters here in the PacNW not realizing that 1 day of rain fills them both. I emptied them into milk jugs I was saving and ran out of jugs at 72. I disconnected them and stored them for the winter!!

Awesome setup man. Small friendly suggestion; that water coming out of your first flush pipe could also be diverted to your fruit trees. But only my opinion. You run a tight ship, keep up the great work!

for drinking yes but for watering plants probably not at that low of a concentration

First flush is mostly about catching loose particlulates that are washed off right away as the rain begins. If you had to drink it, let the particulates settle and prefilter with a clean cloth if your water is really dirty. You should be putting all potable rainwater through a Black Berkey type filter, to eliminate trace environmental contamination like smog chemicals. These are dissolved in the rain water from the atmosphere, the first flush won’t help with that.

So jelly! I just loved keeping chickens! We used to have chickens but our dumb town (not even a city) passed a law that you couldn’t own chickens unless you lived on 5+ acres 😤 we have 3 1/2 acres that we bought just for a small homestead.

Nice setup but draining the pipe straight into the ground might cause damage longterm... I attached a fold out pipe to the bottom of mine couple feet long so can fold up to cut grass 👍

Drill a small hole in the bottom of the dirty water pipe that way the dirty water will drop out and the pipe will be empty to catch the dirty water off the roof next time it rains.
