Because virtue signalling is far more important than actual virtue nowadays, sadly. You should grow eggplants to feed the poor. 🍆

    • In Bengaluru ,India , apartments big or small have this mandatory to get approval however individual houses do not have stringent compulsion on rainwater. Solar however is compulsory for every house apartment and electricity connection is not given without it

    • First flush is mostly about catching loose particlulates that are washed off right away as the rain begins. If you had to drink it, let the particulates settle and prefilter with a clean cloth if your water is really dirty. You should be putting all potable rainwater through a Black Berkey type filter, to eliminate trace environmental contamination like smog chemicals. These are dissolved in the rain water from the atmosphere, the first flush won’t help with that.
