Thanks so much. Glen
My wife Lisa purchased a Dragon Jaw Tong from you for a Christmas present for me. Best set of tongs I own!
Hi Tommy, I'm very happy to hear the tongs are working for you. Word of mouth is what drives business. Thanks so much.
Very nice Glen! Great addition to the "GS TONGS" Tool Room!!
Thanks Robert. I've got a few of these in the works since I'm so pleased with mine. I just wanted this to be simple and work for me, not think about what others might want.
I love the compactness of it, while still being very "beefy". Well done, good Sir!👍💪⚒️
Hey Steve, Yes, I made this compact, stout version to suit my needs and didn't try to make one that others might find more appealing. Thanks for all.
That tool looks so good! Hell for stout and nothing quite beats the look of freshly blued steel.
It's pretty straightforward but often that's best for blacksmithing and for being able to last a long time. Thanks.
Love how you keep innovating with local resources, without going big. Let us know if you sell these.
I already have a few of these in the works for sale. If interested, email me. Thanks. Glen. gstongs@gmail.com
Great tool…simple and effective…hope you decide to make a few
I do indeed have a few in the works right now. I found more reasonably priced tubing. If interested, email me. Thanks. Glen gstongs@gmail.com
I like your “fooling around” comment I say the same thing no matter what or how complicated the job is.🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸
Hi Michael, Yeah, someone said I should change my end saying to this and I thought that would suit me since I seem to be fooling my way around life in general. Thanks for all.
I like the size. The one I made practically takes up a hole shelf. This fits in a drawer. Sweet design. Thanks for sharing.
Most of my tools of this style are smaller. Heck, everything I do is on a smaller scale. This guillotine tool works well for what I need. Thanks for watching.
Glenn, Yet another good design, which reminded me of a design I mentioned to you long ago. I'll send you another note on it.
Hi Ron, Your ideas for another version are good. I've got a half dozen of these in the works right now for sale. I wanted to keep this one as simple as possible and suit what I need rather than add aspects that might appeal to others. But I'll put your idea on paper and see if that might be next. Thanks for all.
Man that looks good, Glen!
I made this one only thinking about what I need and not what others might find appealing. It's very accurate and that's what I want for some operations. I have a few more in the works... Thanks for all Crystal.
Thanks for sharing this tool build
It's my pleasure. Thanks for watching.
He says “the machinist” like he is talking about the “key master“ in the Matrix movie! 😂
Haha! That's a good analogy. Thanks.
You were correct in your comment about accurate. Very little movement in the dies which allows for that and heavy duty too. I only wish it could be bigger from the standpoint of being able to accept larger sizes of steel but I understand weight and cost from your standpoint as far as sales. Great tool!
Hi George, With this version guillotine tool, I decided to not try to make something that would satisfy a wider range of folks but just focus on what I need. Make it great for a few tasks and not so-so for a lot of jobs. Thanks.
😮
Hi and thank you for your very kind comment. I try my best with my videos and appreciate your support. Glen 😬
Looks like a good setup.
Hi John, I made this guillotine with only my work in mind; not trying to make something that would do a lot but only so-so. It works very well for the few tasks I need I need it for. Thanks for all.
Very nice bit of kit and somehting I should really consider making for my own use. If I am thinking of the right person Ron Thacker has a sheet metalworking channel and makes some extraordinary raised metal sculptures. Very cool to be supporting other channels
I made this guillotine tool with just my work in mind and not what others might find appealing. It's limited but works very well for the few tasks I wanted it for. Ron Thacker has been a big supporter of GS Tongs though I'm not exactly sure it's the same person as you mention. Thanks.
I would like to see you get larger tubing to match the steel on hand, I'm definitely interested
Hi Graham, I found a slightly larger (opening) tubing but it's wall thickness is a bit less. But this will allow for much less stock removal of the die stock making the cost lower. Anyway, I made this tool only thinking about what I need and not trying to add bells and whistles that others might find appealing. It works well for a few tasks and that's all I wanted. if interested, email me and I'll do my best. Thanks. Glen gstongs@gmail.com
I would love to buy one with those dies
I am having a half dozen made now for sale. If interested, email me. Thanks. Glen gstongs@gmail.com
I bought a guilloteen tool from you a while back, i really enjoyed it before i compleatly destroyed it from using it too hard. Something like this i would be interested in because i managed to bend the top and botton dies out of line. The width is pretty narrow and i think wider tube would really be benifecial. I did also mushroom the heck out of the dies as well so the extra length on the dies is great. The problems i had were by no means the gilloteens fault because it was only made for lighter work and not to be swung at by an abnormally large monkey-child with an 8lb hammer
Yeah, my older version and probably this one too are not meant to be hit with an 8 pound sledge. I have a few of these in the works right now and so if you're interested email me and I will do my best for you / sort you out considering that you purchased before. And if you do email, please mention again that you bought before. Thanks. Glen gstongs@gmail.com
Very nice.
Thanks for watching.
Great work dude😘
Thanks for your support.
I like the design, but I'd not stay with the tube for future designs if the die stock needs to be machined down. It would be reasonably cheap to make a suitable tube to suit the die stock out of flat bar or plate. Welds down the external edges will be strong and no issues or matching the die stock the match the tube internal corner radius. Could even make a version with the opening fully open on one side allowing for more options of stock material you can work.
I was able to find tubing that better matches the die stock I'm using and so I don't need to have too much material removed. Yes, using bars and plates to fabricate a "tube" is a good idea and would work. But I'm trying to avoid welding as much as possible since purely welded versions can have the tendency to distort and and especially crack over repeated use. Thanks for watching and sharing your input.
You can easily remove the seam on standard tubing fairly easily and quickly especially if you have the tubing cut into short sections like that, all it takes is an easily created chisel with a single bevel more like a woodworking chisel and you can chisel the seam away. Everyone who builds their own Belt Grinder has dealt with chiseling out the seams of tubing and that’s longer sections of tubing and it’s still done regularly. So you don’t need to restrict yourself to that significantly more expensive extruded steel tubing and that will save you money at the trade off of a few minutes work for each piece and then however long it takes you to make the single bevel chisel but the financial savings should be worth it
I have a few of these in the works right now and found a seamed tubing that will work and is more reasonable. The seam / weld is on an inside corner and since the dies are beveled on the edges, the seam doesn't interfere at all. Thanks.
Another great video. I'd be interested in buying the guillotine tool if you decide to put it out for sale.
I have a half dozen of these in the works that I will sell. If interested, email me. Thanks. Glen gstongs@gmail.com
Hi Glen,Really like it are there any plans on offering it for sale on your website ?
Hi, I have a half dozen of these in the works that I will sell. Not sure if I'll list on my website but if you have any interest, email me. Thanks. gstongs@gmail.com
Nice! Did you quench the dies in water, given their low carbon content, or did you perhaps case harden them?
I quenched in oil with no tempering. Medium carbon can be weird stuff, seems to have a wide range as far as carbon content and can crack in water. Thanks.
Bet it has no slop at all
This guillotine is very straightforward without bells and whistles but is very accurate for sure. Some of my other guillotine tools have slop and it can make them frustrating to use on some projects. Thanks.
@@gstongswait till you see my finished prototype may sell them no slop at all and fully hand made and welded super heavy duty.
