Mike Matheson had a wipe open net to shoot at after Carter Hart decided to take off for the bench and bring on the extra attacker, letting the Penguins extend their lead over the Flyers.
Title is a lie, Hart goes at the perfect time, Konecny lost it.
@jr22green That sounds more like a baseless chirp than a fact.
@jr22green he's literally been one of the best goaltending prospects in years, and had a great first 2 years. He's not playing well this season but he'll figure it out
@jr22green Dude he won CHL Goalie of the Year TWICE (and had better stats than the guy who beat him for the third) which had never been done before him. His time in Everett is regarded as one of the best junior hockey careers for a goalie in CHL history. And considering he shutout his idol, Carey Price, twice in a row during the playoffs last year, and dragged the Flyers to a Game 7 of the second round, posting a .924 in his first ever postseason, I think he'll be fine. As for Lake Tahoe, it was his first ever outdoor game, backstopping a team that was missing more than half of their top 6 and had AHL d-men playing on wing. Even with the stadium light there were shadows, and before the sun went down even Rask (who also didn't look his best, but had the benefit of AHL opponents) admitted it was difficult not knowing the sightlines and not having the chance to practice on the ODR beforehand. Vegas' and Colorodo's tendies didn't look their best either when they played. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there were more factors than the Bruins getting in his head.
@jr22green Hart in the 2020 Playoffs: 14 GP, 9-5 record, 2.23 GAA, .926 SV%, and back-to-back shutouts with Carey Price on the other end of the ice. As a 21 year old playing in his first and only NHL post season (so far) Is that what you consider choking?
@jr22green Also what's Hart doing in the Woman's Health Initiative? For someone who watched him in Everett you're having a hard time with the Western Hockey (L)eague's acronym
Seemed like an opportune time to go, Konecny's turnover is what caused that
That's what I'm noticing too, Hart left while the puck was in the Flyers possession. It was the worst time for a turnover, more like. ntm Hart's awareness makes him attempt for a save on his way to the bench. It really irks me when people blame the last line of defense for a forward's mistake.
@@starpetalarts6668 goalie here to clear things up, it's always the goalies fault. According to everyone who isn't the goalie.
@@mh13mini defense here, i only blame the goalie when we did our job. That was purely on the forwards which i more often blame for turning the puck over because no matter how good the D is, if it keeps coming back theyre going to squeak through at some point and when they do thats on the goalie to stop, not this highlight though, all TK lol.
Seems weird to throw Hart under the bus for this. When else was he supposed to go to the bench? Not his fault there was a turnover.
It's not even Harts fault, his coach prob called him and Konecny made the turnover
Imposter
@@vernonwellsfanclub2474 LMAO
@@vernonwellsfanclub2474 No he's just the Canadian bilingual necessity account.
Misleading title. Konecny needs to get that puck in deep. That was not a bad time for Hart to go at all.
They did the same thing with lucic last week on a video when it wasn’t even his fault
If the anchor known as Konency, didn't turn it over at the offensive blue line, that would have never happened.
Alternate title: Konency brutal turnover leads to empty net goal
So you're going to blame Hart for his coach calling him back to the bench for the extra man, and his teammate turning the puck over at the blueline? K.
@Greg Hober Flyers had possession going into the Pens' zone, and AV called him back to the bench for the extra attacker. TK turned the puck over about 3 inches into the zone, and Matheson did the rest. What was Hart supposed to do, have a vision of the future and say 'nah coach, I'm gonna stay here instead'?
@Greg Hober You clearly have no clue.
@Greg Hober I know you think pond hockey is the same as real hockey, but it's not.
@Greg Hober you're an absolute fucknut lmao
@Greg Hober you veto coach?
Now if that was Ryan Miller back in 2015 that’s a save lmao
Now that's a dangit
Let’s not talk about Konecnys terrible turnover.....
Konency is just a half assed player, who doesn't show any effort in his play. He's becoming more and more of a liability
@@flyersfanatic9053 A modern-day Jokinen!
@@KokoTheGorilla69 I think he's being satirical pointing out the flaw in pinning this on Hart.
"Travis Konecny give us puck at the WORST time....."
damn, would've been a much cooler highlight if the goalie made the diving glove save
The face when you're gonna be on dang its
He "yay'd" at the end lol
all the player had to do was dump it, buuuttt no had to carry it in had to be fancy and Deke out the defense that just sucks for a goalie
The crowd size is what Ottawa was drawing before covid.
I really don't think it would've mattered if the penguins scored there or not lol
"Mike Matheson had a wipe open net to shoot at" -Sportsnet 2021
I hate to see my team on Dang its but I see its gonna happen this week . Now I know how Steve feels LOL
Yeah that's not on the goalie lol that was a crap turnover
If he would have gloved it he would have been exactly at the top of the faceoff circle. What's the rule on goalies handling the puck that far out? Would it be delay of game if he froze it there?
I don't think he was going to freeze since there were some of his teammates near him.
Goalies can handle the puck anywhere besides the corner of their own zone and before the red line in the middle of the ice, didn’t have to freeze it could’ve just passed it or left it or handled the puck even.
In nhl 21 when you try to go middle ice to start a fight lol
"that was a P.Eng" "dude he's a hockey player not an engineer" "perfect empty net goal"
How many times have we seen this is this the second or third time this season ? I saw rask do it earlier
That’s not the same thing, Rask had a brain fart, Hart was being pulled by the coach. Konecny had the brain fart here
Your guy has the puck entering their zone that's exactly when you go to the bench.
@amsro also when the coach calls, the goalie goes full tilt. that's what they are taught
Steve dangs it lol
Imagine thinking that's Hart's fault.... lol
MISLEADING TITLE!!! Come on Sportsnet!!! I expect better from you.
I think that he was under the impression that his team could maintain possession for more than 3 seconds
That’s when you need your defense to step it up
In other cases yes, defense needs to step up and in most cases. But this one wasn't on the defense as much as it is on Konecny.
Why we blaming the goalie for the fact someone else lost the puck
That's a dang it.
Would that count as a goal against Hart?
Proper clickbait headline. That was the time to go.
thats gotta be a terriable feeling. stopping halfway to the bench knowing the other team has control . puts u in a weird spot
Would've looked cool if he'd caught it.
That's a Dang-It
He almost got it!
God, if he made that save. Would have been a career highlight. So close
Cahtah haht!
First Rask and now this?
Probably would have saved it if he reached with the stick
if its anybodies fault its the coach who called him in
does that count as an empty net goal
Nope. Goalie's on the ice, it counts as a regular goal.
It's called a Turnover inside the blue line. You could hardly pin that on Hart.
Misleading, but nice play by the pens
Whoever made the title doesn’t know much about hockey.
Why does the title make it sound like this is harts fault. It's the coaching staffs fault for pulling him
That’s a dangit
How r their fans?
Rask did the same thing, but luckily no one scored on him.
Yes but Rask thought the game was tied and really made a mistake but hart can do nothing for that goal
imagine if he stopped that tho
Wasnt Carters fault. It's a rare instance but flyers fwd coughed up the puck so carter had to go back and JUST missed it. Usually the goalie gets back in time I.e. ryan Miller, fleury, I've seen a few where they make a diving save. But Mathieson SNIPED that with a hard wrist shot, that was impressive
He's no Ryan Miller.
That's a dangit
Who knew the burg had fans?
That's a Dang It
Lol this one counts against Hart's GAA
What in the HELL is going on out there???????????????
*Record Scratch* Yup, that's me... Your probably wondering how I got myself into this situation...
Pretty sure the goalie is waiting for a signal from the bench to leave the crease, not his fault in any way.
"wipe open net"
Let’s go pensss
Just another instance of Toronto sports media blaming goalies. Nothing to see here.
there is no issue with the title.. Hart did take off for bench at the worst time.. whether it be his fault or not
Konecny is literally bummy asf
Oof, that's so not the goalies fault. They were in the offensive zone with possession, if that's not a good time I don't know what is. Can't fault the goalie for the team turning the puck over there.
Lol 😂
Hart got screwed on three goals at least last night. Off turnovers and terrible defense. This was even his fault.
Title is misleading. Wake up Sportsnet.
I know its a hard save, especially in that scenario, but imagine if he swung his paddle and got the save, would probably be save of the year, maybe decade.
imagine he saves that
It would be like that one rob that fleury had on the pens
@@brodystoner2898 ye
Glad it didn’t count against him. Kid is getting lit up this year.
While this is sort of true, I don't blame Hart this season. For the most part he has played really well he just makes maybe 1 bad mistake a game. Honestly the defense in front of him has hung him out to dry on so many occasions I'm surprised him numbers aren't worse. And even though Hart ended the game with an .815 save percentage, I thought he was the 3rd best player on the Flyers last night.
@@averymerlo4499 I agree I’ve seen a couple times where Provy screened Hart and instead of blocking like a Dman should, he moves out of the screen in the blue paint without Hart even being aware the puck is coming. But also I’ve seen Hart not exactly stay in the net (not this time) but for things like the Crosby goal and the last shoot out. He gets to confident and leaves big holes by overcommitting to moves sometimes too even though he has the ability to move left to right.
Actually, it did. If you go to his game logs, is says he had 5 GA in this game.
Wow that camera man has the worst reactions
Hart needs to come out of the net a little further to cut off the angle on that one; clearly too deep in his own net.
He was kind of caught flat footed but I feel like he could have hustled back to the net more
I'm going to buck the trend and say that's a Hat Pick for Matheson. Just to be contrarian.
hart should have kept moving, he tried to be fancy with the glove and it cost him.. he could have put his whole body in front of that
Hardly his fault haha
Wow , even the thumbnails are penguins fans.. smh
idk if that were true wouldn't it be titled "Matheson pulls amazing steal to destroy Flyers so that their defeat makes them hang their heads in shame."?
@@starpetalarts6668 standard empty net goal... meh..
Hart has no defense
Hmm did a hat trick become one goal or pens fans just not very knowledgeable about the game?
If the Flyers player came on the ice for Hart and Hart made the save, would it be a too many men penalty?
Of course
Yes
If I remember right, when Detroit played Vancouver, Ryan Miller made a diving save coming back into the net after he left it for the extra attacker. And no penalty was called even though Vancouver had 5 skaters + Miller
Ryan Miller would have saved it
“Flyers Coach Pulls Hart At The WORST Time And Matheson Makes Him Pay From Far Blue Line” Fixed your title.
Can’t trust anyone, not Sportsnet or Konecney. Poor clickbait title and poor play by Travis. Nice shot by Matheson though.
those were fans in the stands!
Good. Let them in.
Pens looked better without Sid
Not Hart's Fault you doughnut
How's that Hart's fault? Blame Konecky.
blame your spelling. lol. not Harts fault
@@kylesmith261 You dumbass, I spelt it correctly. Are you illiterate? 🤦♂️
Dunno who the commentator is, but going off the replay, Hart did NOT still have the angle and didn't have much of a chance. Sorry, can't fault the goalie for this one at all!
He looked kind of flat footed to me. Almost like he wasn't hustling back
Oof
Koff with your click bait titles
Am i the only one noticing fans here?
The Gov. and Dept. of Health approved 15% capacity attendance.
As a Flyers fan, Hart is a bum and this bone head play sums up how his season has gone so far! He needs to get his head right or AV needs to make him a highly paid spectator!
I have same opinion about how the season is for hart so far. but this goal was not his fault!
Rask really did revolutionize the game for goalies
For all the people who are going to say Hart sucks and he's a bust just don't. Yes, he doesn't have great stats this season but there's only so much you can do when your defense is trash. If you'd watch all the Flyers' games this year (like me) you'd know that he bails this team out all the time. He can't stop everything.
This is kind of why I think SOG is more important than save percentage. Save percentage could be 9/10 but if its 10 SOG then it really doesn't show a goaltender's natural talent. Then if you take a look at the highlight reel of those SOG it also shows the real raw talent of a Goalie in the NHL. Statistics mean something but if the goals against are unbelievably creative, how can you measure that? Because that creativity won't happen every night, the poise necessary is momentary/situational.
def not the worst but ok
Nice clickbait title, he left when he was supposed to, dislike
