Where does Cory buy his fish? In the past, he's ordered from wholesalers that have been around for a long time and people that he's met in person that he trusts. Recently, he's been buying a lot from Dan's Fish because of the health and quality of fish, ease of hassle, and amazing stocklist of rare species. Their excellent customer service has helped Cory find specific fish and certain genders, and their practice of individually packing each fish means that they have an incredibly high number of fish that arrive alive. Full disclosure: Aquarium Co-Op is an affiliate member of Dan's Fish, so visit dansfish.com/catalog/ref/aqua... and use the code aquariumcoop to save 5%.

  • Been a Dan's Fish customer for years, I have always had extremely good service and top quality fish from them! They are higher priced because of the amount of time and money the company spends to get healthy, amazing fish to the end customer. They don't buy fish from the cheapest sources, only the ones who will meet their ethical sourcing and care requirements before getting to the US and they pay more for those standards. Once imported, they spend a minimum of 2 weeks quarantining and medicating the fish before they allow them to be listed and sold, and won't list them if they aren't rock solid. I've almost totally stopped buying live fish from my local stores because they are essentially fish puppy mills. They sell the cheapest fish they can get as quickly as possible, so you have to quarantine carefully and medicate them yourself. I'll gladly pay $3-5 bucks more per fish for them to be healthy, full bellied, and not abused in order to get to me. Have been hoping for a couple years to see the Dan's Fish - Aquarium Co-op partnership happen because I believe their ethics and customer service focus are very similar! Glad to see both companies grow and impact the Aquarium hobby for the better!

  • Something I liked about ordering from Dan's Fish is that, shortly after placing my order, I received an email telling me what day they planned on shipping the fish. I thought it was a really nice touch. I once oredered some Rainbow Tetra from somewhere else where there was no communication for weeks, only to later find that this was because they were ordering them from Columbia. I got fish that were sent to me straight after arriving from Columbia. Not what I thought I was buying.

It was an order of 12 Kerri Tetras and it was the best packaging I've ever seen so far (i've used a lot of online vendors in both fresh and salt water). Each fish was individually bagged and very healthy. All 12 Kerris are still thriving 3.5 months later.

  • I really like that Dan is being the example of what the aquarium fish industry "should" be . He has an on-site pest/disease fish health diagnostic person and we can be assured we are getting healthy fish. He makes the extra effort to assure his fish are at their best before shipping them to customers. I have not had any casualties in my orders and my fish have adjusted well. I also like that he starts getting the fish used to our prepared foods and that, is a huge plus for the new through seasoned aquarist. Dan's dedication to this hobby, the extra mile he goes to and his mission in the fish industry are absolutely commendable and I for one, truly appreciate it. Thanks for shouting out such a well deserved business.

  • I have been buying and selling fish to Dan's Fish for a long time. I've bought hundreds and sold him thousands of fish. I've seen Dan's grow through many stages from his basement.... then he added in a separate garage... then I watched as he built the current facility from a slab to a finished facility. I've become a real fan of how Dan does business. His fish will NEVER be the cheapest, that just isn't feasible with the way he handles his fish. I've seen Dan's sit on an import for literally half a year before the fish before they were 'Fat and sassy' enough to meet his standards. Dan's imports his fish in low density which is maybe 1/3 of the the normal importers do. He does this to make sure they have a better chance to arrive alive, the downside side, is that it costs LOTS more to import the fish. Dan is my #1 place to get fish.

  • What great timing, I am not having luck finding hillstream loaches locally. I even went 90 minutes to That Fish Place in Lancaster, PA, which is an excellent store (recommended to stop by if in the area, they even have a ray touch tank), they just unfortunately don't stock them and can't order them either. So I was just about to start asking the best place to order from online. Dan's does seem to have a huge range, definitely looks like a goto for rarer fish, but I've seen a bunch of recommendations for Aqua Huna and with them I can get almost twice the fish for the same price (not counting shipping). So I'm trying to decide between a smaller amount I know 99% will be great or a larger amount that might have some issues. The other thing I saw for Aqua Huna is that in orders of Hillstream Loaches, some just weren't Sewellia which right now I'm trying to decide for myself if that's good or bad lol. More variety sounds fun, but I also want to try breeding Sewellia and I'm unsure how some other related fish would impact that.

      @robertjohnston25@robertjohnston2523 күн бұрын
    • @@robertjohnston25 Agree, you really do get what you pay for. Pay less and you have a higher likelihood of introducing something to your fish room that could wipe out your entire stock. Also, medication is expensive. If you need to medicate every fish you bring in, you are doubling your cost for fish. Dan does this as part if his importing. So you get fish that have been cleaned up before they arrive to you . Quarinteen them for a couple weeks and you will very rarely need to do anything yourself.

  • I don’t buy from Dan’s Fish because unless you are buying a pair of something, everything is unsexed. For example, Melanotaenia Boesemani "Aves Creek", they are listed as 1.5-2” and there is also a video you can watch. At this size, you can easily sex them and the video shows this too. If they included some language saying they will do their best to send a ratio, I would consider it. Expecting someone to buy 6-10 to improve their odds and keep their fingers crossed isn’t something I’m willing to do…especially at Dan’s prices. This is my opinion, to each their own, just providing feedback. Cory likely has implied leverage over Dan and gets whatever he wants and on top of this, I doubt he pays the same price everyone else pays.

  • Dan's Fish has got to be about the most overpriced expensive place to buy from that isn't a scam. I've bought quite a lot from Aqua Huna and will keep going back to them. Any seller that claims shipping charges have gone up and tries to charge you $70 or more for shipping is scamming you. Surprisingly, people say don't buy off Amazon but I've gotten just as good quality as other online sellers. You do have to be more careful which sellers you buy from, but it's not nearly as risky as we're told. You can sometimes receive dead livestock from any seller, no matter how much you pay. The nice thing about Amazon is they require their sellers to behave like a responsible business.

I get the overheard, meds, quality etc etc.....however if you are a breeder and you also provide the same quality of fish and do all the things he is only willing to pay you 25% of fish including shipping cost total. Greedy considering the 75%. Aqua huna is awesome and stands behind their products. There are plenty of hobbyist you can buy from online now through social media and forums. To each their own but unless you want something he is the only one that it i would pass. Eventually he will lower his prices / proft margin when as his business levels out. If not i dont believe it will survive and why he is wanting endorsed by companies like Cory at Aquarium Co-op. I remember Cory doing a video or ordering from him previously i thought and he was not impressed with his purchase and critiqued the shipment and cost.
