Roadtrip in a Homemade Bike House!

2023 ж. 5 Мам.

We built a one of a kind bike camper rv and attempted to travel 100 miles! This thing ways 500 pounds so this will not be an easy challenge. The problem is you don't ever get rest because someone has to constantly be pushing from the back as well which really tires out your legs... However it is fully functional so we can sleep overnight and everything you can do on a camping trip. Is it possible to take a road trip in a 500 lbs bike camper??

  • Many people seem to be wondering if we copied JSTU with this Bike Camper - we did not. They uploaded their idea 7 days ago from the time this video was uploaded. There is no way we could order all the supplies, design, and build the bike camper; and then go on a two day road trip and edit/upload the video in 7 days. We have been working on this idea for 1-2 months! It was just a coincidence that we had similar ideas posted at the same time. Hope this clears things up - thanks for watching everyone!!

  • From an engineer standpoint, your rear axle needs to be cut, extended, and re-welded near the rear of the vehicle to keep the vehicle from tilting backwards if going uphill. Another thing im gonna point out is the sideview mirrors leave massive blind spots, another thing you can do is go with vinyl siding instead of sheet metal to cut down on weight a few lbs, the body of your trailer would benefit from a more streamlined shape incase you are pedaling against the wind. Last but not least, you need a disc brake setup and dual front wheel axle to brake faster. Those are the basics i would go with but then again i would redesign the whole thing the right way instead of tweaks.

  • I think with some design concessions this could be a thing. Popup style with fold out side beds might help reduce the "sail area". Use an ebike but instead of a dinky little ebike battery an onboard camper battery with a solar trickle charge and EV charge port adapter. That way the camper can act like a range extender with a possible speedy charge capability. I don't think this is busted yet!

  • You need to make this with extremely lightweight materials, starting from aluminum sink and a lightweight travel stove or lightweight inductive electric stove. less furniture inside- aluminum frame hiking chair only and the matress should be air matress with battery powered small pump. Instead of plywood use several aluminum bars as the base of the bed and just put the matress on top. As body, use carbon fibre or thin aluminum sheet. Then build it all on a real tandem bike with electric assist motor. I bet you can make 100 miles with that.

    @vallorahn@vallorahn8 ай бұрын
  • In 1988 my best friend made something like that with a 3-wheel bike. He used wood for the frame and aluminum siding for the outer walls and roof. He added 2 extra wheels from another 3-wheel bike for support. It had a bed and table in it. He wired it so he could plug it into an outlet for lights, a small tv and to run a fan. He rode it to school every day. He sold it to a pawnshop a few years later for 150.00 lol he put a lot of work into it during the time he owned it.

  • I could see this working if you took a 4 person bike surrey and reduced it a 2-person pedal power with a possible battery assist. The base weight of a 4-person bike surrey is 160kg (350 lbs). The camper build would be better supported by the 4-point wheelbase. I would estimate the camper weight at 90kg (200 lb) so the total build out would be 250 kg (550 lbs) or less. It would be far better balanced and if the camper was shaped, or a windscreen was installed, it would be far more aerodynamic as well.

  • You guys did a great job on building this. To make it work better you need a gas powewed or electric bike to pull it. I am looking at turning my 4 x 6 trailer into something for camping a lot cheaper than buying one and you have some great ideas in this.

  • Make one with thin galvanized metal or fibreglass framing, or its hernia pedalling time. Add electric hub motor(s). make it float with a inflatable version. Make sure to get rid of any logs of poo from the digestive system to reduce towing weight. Urine also adds weight, so pee before you set off. Rather than air, fill the inflatable version of the thing with helium. Make the standing area a waterproof shower.

  • One of these, but with the back box empty for cargo, a wide roller door at the back to make it easy to load stuff in, electric pedal assist and a rear view camera would be so sick. I also think the rear wheels need to be further back and more spaced apart for stability. You could even put an enclosed cabin on it so you could ride it in the rain without getting wet.
