The MOST IMPORTANT Video I've Made in 14 Years On KZhead. This is quite a difficult and personal story to tell, but it's something I really need to discuss, and very much something that I need help with. The short version is that my Mum has been diagnosed with Dementia, and I'm helping to publish my Dad's Football/Sci-Fi book to help raise some money to help raises funds so they can live out their remaining time on their terms.
The Kickstarter project is here. Have a look, there's more detail on there, any support is massively appreciated: www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

  • Paul, if you need the book typeset, I run a publishing services company and I will do the typeset and cover design the book for free. I’ve enjoyed Redmen for a few years and I would be honoured to help and pay back some of the joy you and your Dad have given me.

  • Sorry this is happening to your mom. My grandmother had early-onset Alzheimer's in her 50s and passed 9 years ago. There's no beating around the bush, it will be horrible, it is horrific and the damage will be with you and your family forever. Good luck and stay strong.

  • I’ve been watching redmen for the past 10/11 years since I was 14! I have basically grown up watching you, Chris and your dad each week for my entire teenage and young adult life so absolutely I’ll be supporting this project. Best wishes to you and your mum, I know first hand how this illness can affect the patient but also the family and friends of the patient (as I lost my grandmother in February of this year to that disease) so my thoughts are with you all. YNWA.

  • Paul, mate. I can't imagine what you and your parents are going through. I don't know you, your ma or your da, but this breaks my heart into a million pieces. It's one of the worst things to see a body outlive a mind. This book will succeed, and your parents will get to spend their last years together, however, and wherever they want. You'll Never Walk Alone❤️❤️❤️

  • My mum's got dementia & she's bed bound. I have to look after her 24/7, honestly without the NHS I don't know how we'd be able to exist. It's such an awful disease, one minute she's lucid next minute she doesn't know what day it is. She's a bright happy intelligent woman who worked in the Children's Hospital for decades. We live on kenny in what's left of the neighbourhood, the bits that hasn't been overrun by students. Tell your dad he's not alone, I having to do the caring & if he ever needed to talk we're always here. YNWA.

  • I am in tears after watching this. Not only because I lost my Stepmum to dementia and the effects her illness had my dad and the rest of the family, but also because you have chosen to do something so positive in an unexpected way to make your folks remaining time together the best it possibly can be. Of course I will order the book and cherish it. I hope other channels will share this story as besides the club rivalry they are good people. Good luck Maych, my thoughts are with you and your family.

  • I have no hesitation in supporting this project. My own mother suffered with dementia, so I can relate to that news. But further than that, you and your family and team at Redmen come across as friends - albeit separated by distance and circumstance. My thoughts are with you and your parents, and I will think of that every time I see John's book on my shelves. With my best wishes.

I’ve worked in the care environment for well over 20 years, dealing with dementia, my other half, although she has cancer, has such an amazing knowledge of dementia. You and your family will Never Walk Alone. We are all one big family due to our love of Liverpool FC, we are all here for you. Redmen tv has given me so much joy, I’ll definitely be backing this book.

  • Hey Maych, Alzheimers runs in my family also. Grandmother was diagnosed aged 77 and you could really see it clear as day. Over the next 3 years she went from a super organised, family focused women to now forgetting everybodies birthdays, no longer planning the family gatherings, next forgetting names and onto eventually totally losing the last 60 years of her life. she went back to childhood. Thinking my dad was her dad and not her son. Being confused and scared of younger family members she didn't know. It is a terrible disease to witness & after those 3 years of swift deterioration, followed 6 years of frankly being alive without truly living or being present until she died aged 86. This was a women who lived through world war 2 in a German occupation and evacuation. She was super strong and enduring a figure to the whole family, so to see a disease with no real visual affects destroy her was extremely hard. If I can say one thing Paul, spend as much time with your mum as you can in the short term mate. You don't know the speed at which alzheimers will take hold but you certainly want to have more happy memories of your time together to outweigh what could be to come. My biggest regret in family life was being overwhelmed by the confusion and avoiding going to see my grandmother in some of her final years.

  • My grandad got diagnosed with Dementia a few years ago and has slowly forgotten most of the things and people that he was close to, he recently forgot who my grannie was, he thought she was his mum. Despite this, he’s always remained the same bubbly, happy man that he’s always been which has helped us all deal with his loss of memory, ultimately, within himself he has lost us but he has never lost himself and he’s a massive inspiration for me and my family. I’m sorry to hear about your mum Paul, it’s an awful illness and what you’re doing with the book is amazing. Just keep going.

We know what you’re going through and stood helplessly watching my dad watch the girl of his dreams slip away although she was there in front of him….. torture…. humbling to watch. I learned that time to treasure the time we have together with those we love. I’m sure they’re both proud of what you’ve achieved to date but even more so of this gesture ! • What an amazing thing you are doing, and it’s fantastic to see all the supportive comments. Your mum and dad sound like incredible people, who have given so much to help others. Why is it always the kindest and loveliest people that these happen too? My beautiful Auntie died from early onset dementia in her early 60’s - she was the sweetest, kindest and most gentle person you could ever meet. I’m going to join the kick starter in honour of her memory. That was an extremely brave video, it must be so hard to talk about something so personal but by doing that you are giving your mum and dad an incredible gift. 👏👏👏

My father stopped All his activities to look after her until she had to go into a home and then would visit her every day even though she didn’t recognise him for the last 5 years. Eventually it killed him and she out survived him by two years. It was her worse fear as her father had it and was violent with it. I hope your father has a better time of it than my parents, other than MS I can’t think of a worse thing

  • I love watching Redmen & your show from far away. I'm a diehard proud scouser, mighty red fan, born & bred now living in Brisbane, Australia. I lost my dad way to soon at 64, it was because of him & my Mum of the person I am today & my love for Liverpool FC & my city. I lost my brother in 2019 which was self-inflicted, I watched for years my Mum go into a decline with Dementia, from getting support for her at her home to then going into an RSL nursing home & then having to sell her home to support her before it finally took her in 2021. Being the only member of my family left, it took its toll on me. I live with the wonderful memories I have of them & my own family today. I will be happy to help & support your project mate. All the best with everything & keep strong for Mum & Dad, yourself & your family. Keep the faith brother 🙏YNWA.

It hurts even now thinking about it and its been over 10 years since his passing. My heart goes out to you mate, stay strong and my best wishes, hopes and prayers to you, your family and your dear mum. YNWA

  • Hey Paul I've been watching you guys for a number of years now and especially enjoyed when your dad was among the guests. I find it really beautiful making your living by sitting down and chatting with your dad about your favourite club. I'm really sad to hear the news and I'm sending you and your family my thoughts. I just ordered the book and I hope this will help your dad to realise his dream. I published a small novel myself some years ago and it's an amazing feeling getting the freshly printed hard copy of your own book in your hands for the first time. I hope your dad will get that feeling soon as well. Wish you all the best.

  • Wow Paul that was a difficult watch mate. It is one of the reasons i yearly subscribe to Redmen, the raw emotion and passion you show in everything. What a beautiful man your dad is, and he has clearly brought you up right. Whenever your dad is on the channel he holds my attention and comes across as a lovely man. What you are doing for your mum and dad is amazing. Cmon reds lets get behind this, well done mate YNWA

  • Heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure. What an amazing thing you are doing for you family. Using the platform you have built to reward your parents is an incredible gesture. Love to all you Machins. Thank you to you, your Dad, and to some extent your mum, for what you have given us, I definitely want to help you launch this homemade scouse-brewed story.

  • Watched this channel for years now and shared a lot of ups and downs with fellow reds but this is sad news yet uplifting as it shows the real side of people. I looked after my mum for 10 years with vascular dementia and it’s heartbreaking at times. I cannot say I know how you feel as we are all different but for me it wasn’t all sadness as at times my mum would tell me stories about herself as a young girl as her long term memory was brilliant. I got to know my mum more in way than I ever would. I think what you are doing is terrific. Good luck with everything.

  • Maych, this is such a great video. It really hit home with me when you were talking about your mom being the center sun of your family, because I lost my mom over Christmas, and she was the same way to my family. Thank you as always for always being so open with the footy and personal things, I consider myself lucky to be a yank that is a part of the global Reds family. All the best to your family, the channel, and up the Reds.

  • One of my grandmothers got dementia and blocked off everyone except my older brother and his son her final years. It's sad when the people you love most start distancing for no reason while you miss them. Thank you for your video. Wish you well.
