Sul traguardo ha preceduto Wout van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma) e Davide Ballerini (Deceuninck - Quick Step). Wout van Aert è ancora in Maglia Azzurra.

Gualdo Tadino, 12 March 2021 - Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) has won the third stage of the 56th edition of the Race of the Two Seas, Monticiano - Gualdo Tadino (219 km), ahead of Wout van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma) and Davide Ballerini (Deceuninck - Quick Step). Wout van Aert retains the Maglia Azzurra.

Van Aert won one. Julian won one. Now MVDP. Damn, these three really are going to be the main rivals this year. Also, impressive pogacar, hanging on to the front with these amazing classics riders every single time.
This is the 8th *consecutive* win for one of this trio! Last eight races they competed in together, one of them won. I hope also tomorrow!

Alaphilippe's tactic was so well thought out, but Van Aert has so much a winning mentality. He doesn't wait for a teammate to come and help him or anything. Just tries everything he can, even if he has to loose in the end. Normal that MVDP wins this one, they have the same champion's mentality.

That was brutal final kick by MvDP. It is now getting clear that in sprints, MvDP is a shade above both WvA and Alaphilippe. MvDP would have won yesterday too, if not for poor positioning and launching his sprint too late.

MvDP's kick is a lot better, and his uphill sprint might be better too, but in a flat / false flat sprint in stage races he can't beat WvA

With the Stybar/Alaphilippe move it was almost certain that the one who would lead Stybar chase would not win. DeCeuninck-QS boys expected WVA and VDP to cancel each other out for few more seconds to let Stybar takes enough lead. A clever move but WVA was also interested to take few bonus seconds for GC.
That moment, when you know you gonna win, so you have a second to think about what pose am I doing: the "it wasn't that hard to win" pose.

Qiickstep were not humiliated. They raced brilliantly and it took the two most powerful riders in the world to bring back Stybar. Alaphilippe would have come around GVA or Higuita if they or anyone but WVA or MvdP had to burn the matches to catch Stybie.

That they were looking and no attacking Stybar. Only Alaphilippe might have a chance today. Stybar is too weak. They literally fly by near him. Ballerini no chance too, flat maaaaaybe. They have three riders and at the end long faces.

Two riders had the confidence and motor to close that gap, they did. I'm no belgie loving quickstep wacko, but i love the effort and don't get your critism. In my opinion, without wva and mvdp, gva and higuita and the others wait for someone else to chase and that moments hesitation is enough for stybie to eek it out. That's RACING!
