I needed to speak with him and when they were finished I asked him, "Out of curousity, how old do you think I am?" He said, "Oh, dude... you're (back of throat, rolling a gutteral "O") oooold!' "Old? How old is old?" He said, "Oh... like, like, like thirty!" I put my hands on top of my head, then threw them in the air and said, "That's amazing! How did you know???"

  • Nailed it 99%, one disagreement (for some men) most cargo pants have poofy pockets and look silly, however Duluth Firehouse and Firehouse Flex have flat pockets and are great for guys who can't practically carry a bag. I'm an executive for a small business, my daily wear is Duluth Firehose Flex pants, high quality steel toe work boots always polished, a well fitted quality T or pull over depending on the season. I keep worn or stained pants, shirts, and boots in my office for when I know I might get dirty. I'm in the coatings business and often on factory floors with the potential to get dirty. Plus by dressing just above the workers I get more respect than dressing in a suit, make friends more easily, and am more approachable. The rest of your list is perfect!!! I happen to have my father's wing tips from when he got his first job, mint condition, third set of soles. Quality matters. The same shoes today cost close to $400. My boots over $500 and as high as $800. If it's between you and the ground spend money on it gentlemen. Shoes, tires, mattresses, furniture, office chairs, etc. Your body will thank you!

When it comes to layering, I even like to wear a thin turtle neck sweater under a casual shirt topped off with a tweed sports jacket. I have had many compliments on this combination and it allows me the latitude to wear almost any kind of pants that I want. I call it casual/sharp.

  • These are all great tips Courtney. I'm now 52 and I've naturally been slim my whole life. The hardest thing physically about ageing by far maintaining the waistline. Major sacrifices have to be made to have it, mainly restricting a lot of calories. So I've found that finding summer button down casual shirts are either to tight (although make you look good while standing) or they're too loose (dad shirts, haha ) What we need would be a shirt that hugs our chest area, but then relaxes the mid section a little. I haven't seen any around.

  • I always buy clothing based on how well the pieces flatter me. I still wear jeans, but they have to be Joe's Jeans, which I find fit incredibly well. Cashmere sweaters in neutral, or even bright, colors are never wrong. Hermes ties are beautifully crafted and timeless and I have fun with my choice of socks. The best way to up your game is by wearing really good shoes. If you can do custom, go for it. I have a few custom pairs, but generally opt for Gucci, Ferragamo or Magli loafers (which always work).

And it's true as you age you get to care less about what others are thinking or saying about you, still when it comes to style this is when a man in his 40s, 50s, and beyond can stand out. I'm 51 and I'm developing the style that is best for me, I will keep some of the tips you said today. I need good shoes to go out, a timeless watch, and some other stuff that I'm figuring out. Aging is not an obstacle to looking good and that's a fact.

  • Excellent tips here, some applicable for younger fellows who want to look more sophisticated as well. Best of all is to have your own personal style, if you can pull it off. You can get quality for cheap by going vintage, and it especially goes over well in "artsy" circles. One *can* find great duds in thrift stores, but vintage clothes store owners have often already picked them clean during their regular runs, so the vintage shops tend to be a better bet.

I do live in a colder climate so definitely gloves and scarfs with a classic top coat 🧥 does add style to my clothes now that I’m in my late 40’s.

  • I'm 56 and often get compliments for looking much younger and NOT because I dress trendy or go with the crowd. I feel like my generation set many of the trends we see these days but one should be mindful of their age and how to dress appropriately. It's important to eat well at my age and stay fit. I'm vegan now and feel better than ever! I like fitted clothes and good grooming. The classics have worked and always will. Basic colors and a few colored/print shirts. I wear stuff that mixes and matches. Black and white and killer shoes. I wear clothes that transcend time. Black fitted suits with fitted white crips shirts will always turn heads. (I can afford them now). I can pull off slim fit dark denim and ALWAYS get compliments on my gray Clark desert boots or chelsea boots. I have salt and pepper hair so wearing clear framed glasses go well! One great thing about being in your 50s is you don't give a shit about what people think about you! Best time of my life! Enjoy yourselves brothers!! Great video Courtney and thanks for speaking to our generation!

  • I enjoy most of your videos but this one reminded me of not only how young you are but of the world you live in/were raised in. Im a fit 47 and I spend alot of time outdoors. Most of my wardrobe is t-shirts, jeans and cargo shorts and I prefer sandals or hiking boots to all other footwear. I do have some nice button ups and dress pants for special occasions, but I can't wear sweaters indoors, they make me sweat too much. I'll wear a nice flannel as an overshirt and tie it around my waist when inside. I value your insight on many things...but this 'old guy' is pretty happy with his lack of fashion sense. 😉👍 All the same, I love your channel and keep up the good work.

It was sweatshirts when I was younger, and sweaters as I got older. I am amazed that I looked decent with certain GREEN outfits! Burgundy sweaters for me, are hit and miss. I don't like even mock necks (on me, that is), because it makes me look overweight. I know that, in the summer, polos are better, but I prefer COLLARLESS short-sleeve shirts, that "are not tee-shirts." I'm looking forward to watching your "mens summer attire" video.

    • Getting clothes that fit is most important, IMO, so know your sizes and get friendly w a tailor. A sport coat or blazer (NOT a suit coat) w jeans and a button-down is my usual look... generally with a pair of boots (Thursday Boot Co makes a great dress/casual boot). Wear a belt that's in the same chroma-range as the shoes (black w black, brn w brn) and, if possible, match your chosen watch to the vibe and style. Details make the package and may not even be noticed, but doing it wrong will be glaring and obvious. I had a buddy ask me one time why I always look "put together" (I'm a still a slob for chores, auto work, etc). I told him I do the exact same as him: pants, shirt, shoes, jacket... just different "styles". Casual and relaxed but not pretentious or over-dressed. BTW, I'm a 54 yr old truck driver, not a bucks-up hedge fund guy. I watch for sales and even look at Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores for items.
