The forgotten sound of our ancestors. We’ve become too colonialized as time goes by
Roy lantano, you are right sir. We are BEING colonized by the west for so many years... so much so that we think and act like them without us knowing that we are IN FACT culturally more superior compared to our colonizers.
@@arvismac what do you mean by culturally? if you are talking about post-colonial, we don't have culture. the only one with those culture is that those who remained true to their culture. there are people who celebrate it not because they love it but because it's a mere "CELEBRATION FOR THEM" like Christmas, not all who celebrates Christmas are true to their traditions. i don't know about other whites culture, but Germans, French,Russians, Belarussians, even Greeks. they do have a culture before and now its dying too. not because of those mentioned, but AMERICANS. not everyone here in the Philippines acts like a french, nor deutsch or Slavics but only Americans. some act like Korean too you now. every country has a culture, do not think we are more superior culturally with them, because in your perspective as filipino, filipino are superior culturally. but in reality THERE ARE NO SUPERIOR CULTURE. i'll give you an example, every culture believes in different Gods, so meaning different types of rituals. not because you like the other one does not mean the others are inferior. West being defined as West those who sided with Democracy/USA the east those who sided with Russians in Europe. meaning its somewhat wrong to define West as America. because West has Germany,UK,French,Belgium,Netherlands,Denmark, Spain,Portugal,Italy and Greece. have you seen filipinos acts like Greeks nor Germans or Spanish? no right. so blame it on America.

Extremely well-written song: I could feel the scent of pre-colonial Philippines through this song. Wow!

As soon as she started singing I got chills. Her voice is so beautiful!
yes exactly.
She finished an AB Political Science degree in MSU-IIT in 2011 and one of the performers of IPAG or Integrated Performing Arts Guild. It is an international cultural group of MSU-IIT. “Uwahig” was IPAG’s entry to the UNESCO-International Theatre Institute’s 31st Olympic of the Nation in Manila in 2006 and was the country’s representative during the 2007 Taipei International Arts Festival. IPAG again performs “Uwahig” in Vietnam.

Give me goosebumps everytime, she never lied when she said her voice is distinct
10 years and I'm still getting goosebumps on this! ❤
i dont know what she was saying .....but it sounded like ancient goddess singing very nice sound
her song was just to remind the native people no matter what you do in life always remember the original cultures. she doesn't want to copy any artist in music but to do her own way telling the story how much important to our children to know where our ancestor came from. very respectful song as child working hard and finished college with her beautiful unique voice I think she is one of the best song writer I ever know she got the look, the voice, the education, and the attitudes
i turned on the subtitle and i understood the lyrics,it was so wonderful.it conveys the story of creation as ive understood it.

Still watching this Feb.2020 One of the most AMAZING audtition I've seen in The Voice
Me too po
Ako din...
I remember watching this on tv and this hunt me every time until now. It's like my mother telling me a bed time story. Deymm still on 🔥🔥
You mean haunt!
I don't understand a word, but the haunting melody and earnest delivery by this young lady means I don't have to in order to enjoy it. An AMAZING song and I wish she'd been able to finish it after all the judges turned.
Its a traditional style of composition and singing in the Philippines which you don't hear anymore. As a Filipino, last Time I heard one was 20 years ago. Western Pop culture influence made such song disappear from the media. Gave me chills and it feels weird in a good way hearing such classical style song from my own country. It brings nostalgia when the world is trying so hard to conquer this island in the middle of east Asia with mysterious brown locals ...which we now call Philippines
mvpmickey1 Makes me all the more glad to see someone so young bring this to the table, then. There's nothing wrong with singing something the world knows, but you can't neglect cultural roots. People need to remember that a lot of the instruments, singing styles, and rhythms we enjoy have their origins in different places around the world, but rarely do we hear them in their original context, so I don't believe we truly appreciate them for what they are.
Mula sa wala mundo'y nilikha (From nothing the world was created).
Here is a rough translation of Uwahig (Journey to the time when the epic of Man began). I am sure someone can make a better translation than me. Huhubugin (forge, mold) Bubuuin (assemble) Daranasin (experience) Ating tuklasin (let us discover) Diwa't isip bubuhayin (to bring life to consciousness and thinking) Mula sa wala (From Nothing) Mundo ay nilikha (The world was created) Nililok na mukha (the face is carved) Sa siklab ay nagsimula (it all started with a flame, spark or flash) Tinanglaw ang palad (beckoning or illuminating the fate. Palad can also mean hands) Likhang binigyang malay (creation that is given awareness) Sa init Hugis ang binagay (the shape is fashioned from heat) Apoy! (fire) Mula sa wala (from nothingness) Mundo ay nilikha (the world was created) Tinanglaw ang palad Sa apoy hugis ang binagay (from fire the shape was fashioned) *Umawig is an epic, pre-Christian folklore of the Filipino version of the Genesis. Bathala (the All Creator) created men by cooking or baking them. His first creation was burned (Africans). He decided that they should live in the hottest part of the world. His second creation, he took them out too early, so it was half- cooked (Europeans) and that he decided to put them in a cold environment. During his third batch of creation, he decided to timed it just right. Hence, came the Malay race. To some it could sound a bit racist saying that whites and blacks were an error on the part of the ancient Filipino god. But it was how our ancestors explained on why there are so many different races.

I love Filipino native songs sobrang ganda sana dumami ang ganitong pinoy singers..
OH MY GOD THERE IS HOPE FOR ORIGINAL FILIPINO MUSIC. Now if only every single Filipino would be taught since elementary class that music is not just pop and pop-diva is not the only genre that women can sing. HOLY GUACAMOLE THIS IS JUST INSPIRING. I remember this opera singer Geraldine Flores who got ousted on Pilipinas Got Talent and I was saddened so much but this Kundiman thing is a miracle. Sad lang kasi "normal people" are still business-minded and gusto nila "pop" lagi at ayaw nila ng kakaibang genres.
well said
true!
It's all for money. I consider myself lucky because she actually is a product of the uni i am currently studying in, and annually the play(where her song performed is a part of), and lots of other originals by the performing company, are being shown to us students, which i can say is very enriching in the students part

YAN ANG MGA DAPAT MAGREPRESENT FOR THE PHILIPPINES IN THE INTERNATIONAL TUNAY NA AWITING PILIPINO AT TUNAY BOSES NG FILIPINO.
Old Myths, Old Legends, Old Folklore Silk Road, Ancient Civilizations why all those flowing into my head the moment i heard her voice ? her song is so warm & sooo beautiful i really cried an emotion & warm tears though i'm from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but i felt all those things art & music is a strange things we humans have more common links than differences links it seems the song she sang is a rare art cuz it the first time i heard this type it remind me of Tenchu's theme song Sadame i'm grateful that she appeared in suggestion box
Yep it
yep pre colonial and I loved it
Well I felt that all my ancient tribe members are calling me back.
Such an enchanting voice. Galing ❤️ . Sana lang si Coach Bamboo or Coach Apl ang pinili nya kase they are the ones who are really looking for filipino distinct sound.
Her voice is so beautiful and angelic... ❤️ I hope she has a good career right now.
I'd buy her album with these kind of songs!
The Best talaga dapat si bamboo pinili nya sakit pa nmn kamay nya non 😅

Kakaiba still love listening it 🎶♡ isa siya sa hindi ko makalimutan sa blind audition 😊
For those who are asking "from what country is this The Voice", this is THE VOICE OF THE PHILIPPINES. And for those who are asking "why do we (Filipinos) are mixing our own language with English", English is our 2nd language in the Philippines, it's just normal for us to fuse it with our local dialects here..
I have to mention that because there lots of people (probably foreigners) in the comment section asking about those. Especially the mixing-our-own-language-with-English..
English is also our National Language

This is something we can really call "OURS".
Thanks for bringing the Kundiman back in the game! Very brave performance! Although it’s staged but i enjoy watching their show! Sabi nga ni Ms Lea Pi na Pinas to! The Phillipines or Filipino People have incredible talent. The World in general must seek out the talent that this country has. There is gold, diamonds and pearls and I want to see and hear them.
The song is about the creation of the earth and the universe.... But the feeling of removing your sprit from your body and bringing somewhere was the best thing i felt listening to this music and to her voice.....
