If you’ve ever shopped for a smartphone before, you’ve probably seen sales like this one from Samsung. Or this one from Google. Android smartphones go on sale fairly regularly, so it’s pretty easy to purchase one for less than retail price. But when it comes to the iPhone, that’s nearly impossible. Apple never offers sales on their smartphones, even though they’re some of the priciest in the industry. Instead, Apple encourages customers to trade-in their old iPhone for a discount, or sign up for the iPhone Installments program to make the full payment over a longer period of time. So why is Apple so averse to running iPhone sales? They’re already making so much money, and they could sell a lot more units if they lowered the price, right? Well, that’s exactly what I’m going to explain in this video.

What they did, and with a success, was to introduce the SE series as an "economy" class that snatched a portion of the market they would have gotten with a lower price. Masterful.
That’s how the won me over! I honestly never faced any of the inconveniences people talk about with Android because I stuck with Samsung for years so my favorite apps and services transferred easily from phone to phone. The thing is even nice Androids break so easily I stopped buying nice ones and just got budget phones instead until AT&T ruined my service so horribly I had to switch to Verizon. I think they’ve hit a market cap in many markets. Besides, they have other strategies to get new costumers or retain old ones, like the SE phones or older models at discounted prices. They just refuse to lower the price of a new model, keeping all prices stable for an entire year.

To be fair, Apple's hardware is most often very high quality and their OS is optimized along with it, so when purchasing their device it is more of an investment you expect to pay off over years. I had a 2009 iMac that lasted me until 2017 and I gave that away when I started switching more towards the 2016 Macbook & Macbook Pro that I am still heavily using to this day (will get the M series to replace them soon) I had a 2014 Macbook Pro base model that I accidently spilled water on that seeped into the board...the machine lasted me until 2017 when I gave it away to relatives as I was already on the new 2016 Macbooks I still have a working iPhone 3G, and my iPhone 7 Plus last me until 2020 when the screen finally stopped working after hundreds of cracks and drops over the years. Seems about right. The only time I've gotten an iPhone at lower price was via phone trade in or refurb purchase.
I think you might be mixing launch pricing policy with discount policy. What you’re talking about here is how they have spiked their price over the years, but that’s something that other companies have been doing too. In fact, the first major smartphone that crossed the psychological line of what would you pay for a smartphone was the galaxy s8. Both companies noticed saturation so they resorted to shifting the market by increasing hardware features and price to increase margins. Besides, we’ve seen Apple being more aggressive with their pricing and lowering it some years. The main difference with their competitors is that you can’t expect to buy a 11 month old Apple product cheaper than at launch. By contrast, you can easily get a +200 bucks discount for a 5 month old Samsung flagship. My own guess is that Apple doesn’t want to devalue their products, since once many consumers realize that older devices get discounts, they decide to wait a bit and get them cheaper. That’s what I do with my android smartphones. So, if you want an Apple know that you’ll pay pretty much the same during launch date or just before the newer model appears. I assume that this may cause sudden spikes of sales at launch, and much lower sales on the later months, since buyers will pay full price for a product that will be renewed shortly. But I guess they’d be probably ok with this. Another company that does that is Nintendo, which is infamous for selling 4 yo games at full price, unlike other publishers. Both companies have very strong loyal fan bases so I guess this could help.
iPhones which are 3 or 2 gens older can be bought for a nice discount but still the hardware is OP.
@@gokultn72 Yes, but you'll never see iphones discounted before a new model launches. Of course they must lower the price of an iPhone 13 or else nobody would buy it if it was the same price as the 15. While androids often lower their price merely months after launch. I do think that buying a previous gen iPhone is a better deal I agree with you

My iPhone will still receive updates after 4-5 years. Idk, it’s more expensive than it used to be, but it’s still not that bad
Verizon offers the previous iPhone models at a slightly lower price when the newer models are released, or they’re offering various deals. I know a lot of US carriers have also been giving 30 months for a customer to pay off the higher price iPhones as well.
Not only carriers, even the Apple Store offers discounts for older models, and payment plans. They even show the renewed pricing of their entire lineup during their keynotes. If you do some research you’ll see that most of the times they offer phones from 400 to 1200 bucks, reaching a wide costumer base. That’s their price policy to reach different consumer profiles. What they refuse to do is to lower their prices more than once a year. I assume they want to keep a consistent price to avoid devaluing their products too much.
Thanks chief. 👌🏾😎📱

It's nice that Apple has given us customers a great variety of options for iPhones. Well, I live in Lithuania and we have Apple products discounts at official Apple products retailers. Often they make discounts for students and sometimes they make discounts for Macs, Airpods and iPads. But yeah, I never saw discounts for example, in US 😀

Luxury goods like Canada Goose and LV never go on sale for the same reason. It was never about being the most accessible but prestige.
Although Apple isn't a luxury product...
@@mrkring1526 Regardless of whether they are or not, thats how they want to be perceived.
An additional reason I can think of is that psychologically, when an item is discounted, its value diminishes in the mind of the potential customer. And Apple would never diminishes the value of their products. That’s why the prices tags, in the Apple stores are always very discreet, that is in order to not make the price a selling point. The luxury industry uses the same price tags format if you ever notice

07:40 wow that is such a bold statement to say with such confidence! the services market is growing exponentially and there are even bigger profit margins there. with the Indian market becoming more and more attractive and so many potential customers on the lower end we might see sooner than later and iPhone mini for example because the hardware sales is not a sustainable model it can reach saturation and it’s not a recurring sale. Especially that iPhones are getting better and better and people are less likely to upgrade like before. They might risk a short term reduction of revenue which investors will understand in order to have more revenue on the long term. IPhone is dying because it’s gotten so good and robust that they ran out of upgrades (other than cameras and more speed that’s not needed by most users)
Cook has been putting a lot of effort to make money on services, in fact. But I think it’s important to understand that if your service business is based on purchases and subscriptions rather than ads, it’s important to get the right kind of consumer. IOS users spend way more on app purchases than the average android user. That’s the one the kind of costumer they want. So yeah, they could sell you a 200 bucks phone, but they’d be cannibalizing their sales and not get much from services, since people who spend 200$ on a phone aren’t probably going to get Apple TV+, Apple Music and the likes.
in india, base iPhone SE2 is $499 compared to $399 for 64gb in USA. For 128gb, its $599 compared to $499 in USA. Anyway, it bought in Flipkart Big Billion Days which gave me discounted price at $499 for 128gb (which should be before the discounted price tag), it's a nice decent phone. Happy customer !! That’s the carrier discounting not Apple. Appolo still get the same amount of money for the phone it’s the carrier taking a hit to lock you into a contract
Wait, I somehow never thought of this

I worked for a major retailer and you could not put Apple products on sale because you would lose money the price we paid Apple was so high the only money to be made was in accessories.
Apple critic: you can have Apple, their products are expensive anyway Apple fan: don’t hate their prices, hate their business model
I think their business model is why you buy Apple... lol
more like: normal people: chooses the phone (whether it's an iPhone, a Mi, a Galaxy, or w/e) based on UI and personal preferences, but don't mind using phones from the competition. They are not obsessed with any particular phone or company. apple fans: spends time enjoying their phone, much like Nintendo fans enjoy their switch apple hating, android obsessed people: wastes time by ranting and whining about Apple and its users and how android is better in every possible KZhead video they can find. They probably spend a lot of their time on twitter as well, ranting with like-minded individuals, instead of spending the time enjoying life.
The wisest thing that should be on every individual list is to invest in different stream if income that don't depend on the government to bring money especially now that the pandemic is hitting economy pretty hard
I've got interest in investing but afraid of doing it on my own to avoid loss from my own Ends
Yeah, but when you trade with a professional broker that won't bother you
My first investment with a professional earned me $5100 with $1000 in less than a week
Unbelievable !!!!!
I think that's on the average. I tried trading with Mr Oliver Watkins , my first investment of $500 was with fear but it gave me a profit of about $5300 in a few days!! Last week I made profit of $9620. Trading with Mr Oliver Watkins made more profit for me that other professionals I traded with in the past
I am Android person but i love this channel.
When they introduced the X alongside the 8, opinions were that it was a stupid idea as the X's sales will cannibalise the 8 because of the new hardware and a full screen phone. Now that you mentioned it I though it was actually a smart move to introduce the X as a "higher end" product and raise the price over $1000, and then keep the price there for all the upcoming "Pro" model they sell. It was a subtle way to get consumers to adapt to the higher price point instead of "We are raising the phone price to over $1000 this year", that's obviously very hard to swallow.
Apple has won people's mindset since the very beginning. Thanks to Steve Jobs. And, that legacy is still carried on. Only time will tell when the people reach the turning point.
