  • Excellent, educational video Tom! Yes, thank you for trying to save as many Lugers from destruction as possible. Destruction of guns equals destruction of history.

  • I made walnut magazine bottoms/bases for John Martz Luger Carbine maker in the 1970s and throughout the 1980s and I used to pressure cook epoxy resin into the wood after making and finishing the bottoms. I would then wipe off the excess epoxy and allow to cure. None of my mag. bottoms that I know of have cracked or broken. The final finish was similar to an oil finish. Also, the oldest magazines used in P08 pistols were tin dipped or plated before the nickel finished and extruded ones.

  • Though this was created a year ago, I just happened across it and I can say it was one of the most detailed and important Luger videos I have seen.I have been collecting for years and have a really great double date 1918/20 DWM Luger in our family collection. It did not come with a matching mag- I know, thats a shocker! I did pick up several original mags along the way and researched them as best I could but this video has been a huge leap in knowledge on the shrinking pool of original mags for these iconic firearms. Thank you for the information on this subject as well as the wide array of videos you produce. Keep them coming. Stay safe and well my friend.

  • Sometime, could you explain the distinction between "Commercial" and "Military" Lugers and Mausers? Considering the war demands during 1914-1918, was there really much commercial/civilian demand that could be met (outside police service and private purchase by service members? Wouldn't these pistols have been found their way into the services?

    @dmw1262@dmw12622 жыл бұрын
    • Officers were required to purchase their own sidearms. Some lucky or privileged politically connected people could also purchase them, they’d all be commercial. The military marked were actually property of the armed forces and issued to a soldier as a secondary sidearm and those would have the military proofs.

  • The 1920 marking on the top of a luger upper is actually a gov't property marking and/or a date, It is Not a rework marking, although for many years folks thought that is what it meant. it does not. . Lugers were required to be dated, and after WW1 when DWM went to make some, they were required to be in 30 luger (7.65mm) and they were dated 1920. At the same time, citizens were required to turn in weapons and the Weimar gov't gave a bounty on different weapons. Well, it was assumed and likely so, that soldiers were turning in weapons from the army stores. Thus a directive came out that the 1920 would be placed on all gov't owned weapons. This is not a date, NOR a rework, but an acceptance gov't marking.

From Your own collection, top 3 guns of every type, these would be those that You never will sell under current circumstances, no monetary problems, no divorce, no new gun laws. And a motivation WHY You picked these, high monetary value, high sentimental value, high historical value or something else. PPs and PPKs are different group, P38, HSC, Sauer 38, 1911s, and so on.

The process start with mandatory registration that requires the gun to be physically inspected by licensing authority for assigned number then the gun was kept in the authority procession for "safe keeping" after that the gun will be transferred to government department of interior and you will never see your gun again.

  • Please accept that my English is limited, but I try to do my best! First, let me say: many thanks for (all) your videos. And then, I will offer a different view, to all of your videos. For e better understanding I have to tell you: I live in Europe, in a country what was occupied by the Wehrmacht. So, please note that I'm far from being a Nazi, and have no symphonies at all, for the Nazi-Idiologie! For a long time i was nasty that the US have totally robbed Germany. Everything was seizures (let's say stolen) and shipped to the USA without any regulations. I still find it far from being correct and / or legal. (the immense US advantage in technology today, is almost based to these robbed prey) It took a long time for me to recognize the advantage of it. With "it", I mean the opening and the posible historical regard or look back, what concerns details of production, numbers, codes.... If, all these documents and informations have remained in Germany, I guess, they where lost for all times! I can not imagine that a German Gouvernement would give access in that scale, to "the darkest time". All these probably would have been destroyed or simply locked away. So, thanks again! Please, keep on going with these immense love and richness for details. It would be sad if they where lost. I stay "tuned"!
